Nice management very helpful very clean lots of space and nice location.

Room is nice beds were somewhat comfy considering I'm pregnant service was not over the top but they were nice, only thing is it seems they gave me an unmaintenenced room the shower made a loud sound and was also clogged so we had to make our showers quick before it filled up.

This hotel is extremely overpriced for what you get. The rooms and bathrooms are small. The shower is not a full shower, but a one person stand up one. If you are over 5'6", the showerhead will be below your head. Their king sized bed is more than likely a queen or a full. It is not very close to the fun things to do downtown. They charge money for parking, which is fine but space is limited. Not a great deal for quality and size of the room

The staff were very courteous and helpful. The room needs better lighting for reading. The room was very clean . The neighborhood has a number of homeless people but it is close to everything downtown.

To say that I was disappointed with my stay here is a huge understatement. The plumbing made the most gosh awful and loud noise, anytime anyone nearby showered. There was not a bathtub or shower stall, just a curtain that allowed water to leak onto and all over the bathroom floor. I had to use one of only two large towels in the room to attempt to dry the floor so I could stand at sink without standing on a wet floor. When you moved around on the bed, the sound from the cheap box springs was hideous. I was hoping to have a romantic getaway with my girlfriend that was anything but that. The loo on my girlfriends face upon entering the room made me want to walk out and book a room somewhere else... I was embarrassed. The room looked little like the picture, and had I known what I was getting into, there is NO WAY I would have booked a room there. If I were offered a free stay at this Red Roof Inn, I would decline and flee as fast as I could.

The picture definitely lied in this case. The rooms are not as nice as they appear

I initially hesitated to pick this hotel because of some negative comments I read but in the end I am glad that I did. We had no problem with the hotel. The personnel at the reception was extremely helpfull. You are very close (walking distance) to downtown and especially the Gaslamp Quarter where all the nightlife takes place. You don't need to rent a car unless you absolutely need it. But a daily or four day pass for the trolley and buses will take care of your needs. You can take them all the way to the Mexican border and all other places..Just check the routes..Overall, for this price, it was more than satisfying..Thanks to the hotel reception personnel..

Very clean, personel very freindly, will stay there again

This was hands down the worst hotel I have stayed in. The curtins were too short, so people could see into your room as they walked by and you could see into other people's rooms from the walkway. The room I booked was a King Superior, which was supposed to come with a refridge & microwave. There was no microwave and the refridge barely worked; my food spoiled because it was not cold enough. There was something wrong the the tub, the bathroom door did not even shut, and there was hardly any light in the room after dark. I stayed for several nights and when the room service came, they did a good job of cleaning. However, they did not come every day for some reason, so I ended up taking my own trash out so it didn't overflow. Lastly, the neighborhood was terrible. It is near 2 Bail Bonds shops, lots of run down parking lots, and homeless people roaming the streets. I wish I would have stayed a few blocks over (the Gaslamp Quater seemed more populated and safer in the evening).

do yourself a favor, stay somewhere else! Bed squeaks, floor squeaks, toilet wont shut off when flushed, shower diverter wouldnt work, no TV remote upon arrival, wi-fi signal weak, 3' tub with slippery unstable base. This place really sucks.

Jason was very helpful which ameliorated the negative first impression. Entry was hard to find, lobby sparse to slightly shabby, computer not working; but Jason handled all with grace & attentiveness. Probably wouldn't recommend it or return, but I wouldn't discredit it either.

The location was everything with this hotel. Just south of Balboa for a visit to the zoo, a mile from Petco Park, and close to Broadway and Market street, the purpose of this hotel was strictly for it's location. On the flip side, the room itself wasn't too shabby either. It was recently renovated, so it had nice features like hardwood floors and new layouts. I don't have any complaints about my stay, and it was a pretty nice room to come home to. Actually, parking was a minus, as we had to pay $16 out of pocket in order to keep our vehicle within the confines of the structure (either in courtyard or underground).

The room was clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Its within walking distance of the convention center which is why I booked it. It took about 15 min to walk there. I did often take a cab at night because I was a little nervous about walking back alone. The neighborhood immediately surrounding the hotel is not the best. I was comfortable during the day but not at night.

The hotel room was adequate but the staff were outstanding. All were friendly and helpful. They facilitated my transportation to the airport and answered multiple questions about the area. Thank-you!

The hotel staff was more than helpful and extremely friendly. Hotel location is very close to great restaurants and night life, as well as walking distance to the waterfront. Very clean and comfortable stay.

So I arrived to find that there is no microwave or mini fridge, despite the description on hotels.com saying that ALL rooms have these. I was informed at the front desk that it was in the king suites. Oh no, I brought perishables! They said they would try to upgrade me to a suite first thing tomorrow, fine. But as I was walking out, the clerk said to give them 15 minutes and they'd put a fridge in my unit. They did as promised. That was the only hiccup. Great location for Balboa or Gaslamp.

Location was great. That's the only reason I would stay here again. Otherwise, room is a bit old but not necessarily dirty. Shower has super weak water pressure. Towels were abrasive. Toilet is like a public restroom. Parking does cost, but still cheaper than everywhere else. The hill people are complaining about isn't even bad.

Everything was fantastic and you couldn't beat the price! Great job hotels.com and Red Roof Inn. I have to say... I travel a considerable amount for work and the staff at Red Roof are always friendly and attentive.

Red Roof is a basic hotel chain, no frills but everything you need for one or two nights. There was a faulty light switch in the room, it was operable but with difficulty. They offered a replacement room but it would have meant climbing stairs, something I am unable to do. The bath was extremely small - again basic and doable for one or two nights. The biggest complaint is the hotel charged for parking on their own lot, $16. Parking should have been included. It was fine for a low nightly rate on a holiday weekend and only two nights but I would not consider a longer stay.

Our stay was AWFUL! The room was tiny - the shower was even smaller with no water flow and the ac/heater were all broken! The big huge man in the front was RUDE- RUDE - RUDE!!!!!! Total bologna to have to pay $16 per night for a parking spot so we had to park on the streets by a bail bonds or the homeless. LOVELY!!!! So disappointing! They say- you get what you pay for. FULL of servicemen and youge drunk ladies screaming and yelling til 4am, nobody shut them up. We were there for cheer competition and needed to be up at 6am and at the convention center by 7:30am.

I had a very nice stay at the Red Roof. I was only thre for a couple of days while visiting friends staying at another downtown hotel for over a month. It was a nice place to relax and unwind and it was very clean and centrally located. The cafe and corner store across the street were great for grabbing quick bites or small amenities and the staff was very friendly.

Bug crawling on the floor left me with a bug bite on my face the next morning. TV reception was extremely poor. I reported it to the front desk and they sent someone to my room to fix it. When I took a shower the water wasn't coming out evenly, it was spurting out in another direction. Again I reported it to the front desk & they sent someone out to correct it. Wood floors are horrible for a hotel. The person above me would come back to their room late and their heels clicking across the floor and dropping things on the ground was super loud and annoying. The front desk person was helpful and apologetic for everything that went wrong with my room.

Exactly what we wanted. Can walk down hill to anything in gaslamp for good food and music. Didn't move the car in 2 days. There is an extra parking fee but worth if for price of hotel compared to others in neighborhood. I was hesitant to stay at a RRI, but it was clean and well kept and we were very happy with our stay.

Overall satisfied with hotel service with exception of bad information from a night fron desk worker who did not call the hotel shuttle as promised and did not tell me that I had to budget time to walk across to the holiday inn to pick up the shuttle. Had I not called in at 4:30 in the am to confirm, I would have possibly mised the flight back home.....Other than that satisfied with service.

It could have been much better if they had area for pool-table around coffee and sofas. to meet up some ppl in the hotel. also the shower was very noisy and even scary, it wasn't maintained as it should be.

We stayed here for almost a week. The hotel is located quite conveniently, a 10 minute walk into San Diego downtown, yet far enough away to be relatively quiet. ON the other side, Iti is a 30 minute easy walk to Balboa Park and the zoo. When we stayed, there were may young people and surfers staying as well which meant a fair amount of noise during the early evenings. When we checked in, we were assured that noise was kept down after 10 pm, and we found this to be true. At any rate, our sleep was undisturbed. The room was clean and quite comfortable. Hardwood floors rather than carpeting made it look much better. The bathrooms are on the smaller side, as with hotels located in cities, but quite alright. Internet can be slow sometimes, but it works and is free. We interacted with the reception a bit during our stay and the staff (Ivan especially) were very considerate, accommodating and efficient! They let us check out a bit later which was very helpful. In all, if you are on a budget but still want relatively comfortable digs, and are not too nit-picky, the Red Roof is a good, solid option. The staff keep this place going!

Walking distance to gas lamp, don't expect early check in. If you don't wanna pay extra for parking, not the hotel for you. 16$ to park 1 car. Location is great though. I would stay here again.

Walls are thin and my sheets were stained. Other than that it was OK place.

The rooms need serious updates and sound proofing. Also the $16/day parking fee is a bit too much... That and the lack of any amenities doesn't really make it a great deal.

The hotel itself was pretty clean, but you have to call if you want your room to be cleaned. Also the parking fee was high.

For the price it's well worth the savings. The customer service is fantastic. It's not a "fancy" place, but it's clean and has everything you need when it comes to a hotel. At the end of the day it's the bed you really need for crashing on after a crazy fun night partying right. So, saving $ on this hotel made it well worth it, we still got quality and had no complaints.

Poorly trained staff. Lack of features you thought you paid for. Impolite staff.

friendly staff, clean room and walkable to lots of bars, restaurants and attractions. great value

In my favorite neighborhood, Cortez Hill. Free airport shuttle! Great views! The shower was surprisingly bad for how updated the rest of the room was, but I could care less because the size of the room, the comfort, the view, location, transportation to airport waaay made up for it. Highly recommend!

For what I payed, this was a perfect stay. Granted it is a little lower on the looks scale but the staff were friendly, it was a good location to everything, and the price made it a easy choice. If I'm ever down here again, I will choose this hotel again.
