A race was taking place outside the hotel on the day we checked in causing all entrances to the hotel to be blocked off to vehicle trafic off for several blocks. We had to get out of a cab several blocks away and walk our suitcases to the hotel. The hotel had our email address and could have contacted us to tell us of the race circumstances. Room service attempted turn down service at 6:00 pm each night, which is prime time for guests getting ready for the evening. We asked if they would perform turndown service at 7:00 pm after we left the room, housekeeping continued to attempt turndown at 6 and not return to perform the service later in the evening. The back entrance to the hotel was locked after 12:00am without prior notice. Although the desk asked which newspaper we would like in the morning, no newspaper was delivered. The front desk simply said they ran out. The restaurant was not in operation for breakfast the last morning we were guests without prior notice. The front bar area was available for buffet only at $40 person. The hotel was performing some maintenance during breakfast causing the fire alarm to be set off while we were eating. Upon check out our clerk asked if we had a nice stay and we stated that we had a few concerns which she might want to address for future guests. The clerk just said "oh" and went on with our check out, she was obliviously did not want to know what the concerns were.

I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel staff was excellent. I would definitely stay again.

We had a room where you could hear some kind of circulation air system located outside the room which was rather noisy. Room 529. Also, the shower head was awful-not much regulation in the sparying mechanism.The service at the desk and the support people we came in contact with were excellent. Other than the noise and the shower head, our visit was OK.

Very nice hotel, great service and perfect location on Central Park south. Walking distance from Lincoln Center and Met Opera.

Great hotel. Service could have been a little better for a 5 star hotel. I couldn't get them to clear the room service dishes for 24 hours even though I asked several times and they skipped the room turndown for some reason. Otherwise very nice.

The JW Essex House is in a perfect location just off Central Park. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The concierge failed a bit short when helping us find a restaurant that would appeal to both grown ups and young children. But overall it was a great stay and I would go back.

Our two night stay was fine but really nothing special. There are a number of equally good alternatives just a few blocks away. Our stay was rather odd. In hindsight we think the housekeeping staff had not been informed that our room was occupied on the first night. We needed to call the maintenance staff to our room three different times for items that would normally have been checked prior to occupancy of a room. #1 - the lights behind the bed were not working and there did not seem to be an obvious plug to correct the situation #2 the TV would not work - it took the maintenance person about 15 minutes to correct the problem including rebooting etc. #3 burned out bulb in lamp next to chair in sitting area which was unfortunately the only area for reading while family members slept. These items are each fairly trivial but when combined with the fact that the heat was set at 65 (took until midnight to warm up), we did not have towels or robes for four people, we never received turn down service it was not terribly impressive. On the other hand, our second night was delightful. By this time our room was warm and everything was working. We received the expected turn down service and filled ice bucket - all of the normal stuff. Night #1 - not very impressive Night #2 - as expected ......Average - SoSo

Our stay was great. We'll book here the next time we come up for the opera.

Loved the hotel. Everything about it was excellent

My husband and I stayed for one night and had a great time. The staff was extremely friendly and the room was beautiful.

Service, rooms, internet connection (FAST), location and everything is impeccable. What does drag it down is that you can get pretty much the same for half the price. It seems you pay a lot extra for having a handfull of staff just standing around saying hi to people all day. If you're OK with the premium on the price though, I'd definately recommend this hotel. To be fair though, they are more reasonable than most hotels facing Central Park.

Very nice hotel in general, but I'm thinking they give Hotels.com folks the rooms with the worst views -- airshaft view.

good customer service, nice hotel. easy checkin and checkout experience

The place was very clean, wonderfully located, elegant...probably perfect for most. Just a couple of quibbles. The gym was fine for cardio, but for weight resistance, it left something to be desired. Dumbbells only go up to 55. The pulldown lat machine was too low to provide full range of motion for my 5-10+ height and the chest press machine had the same problem. The other problem was this...they offer complimentary coffee starting at 7 a.m., but if you have coffee with your breakfast in the dining room, it leaps to $9. The waiter was very enthusiastic about replacing my complimentary cup with the $9 cup, and I resent that. However, keeping those defects in mind, it's great. If you like to row, they have a Concept 2 rower. I would go back, I would recommend it to anyone.

Essex house changed from a Jumeirah to a Marriott since our last stay, but the hotel quality is still consistently very good.i would recommend checking the prices on the web, as the price does vary quite considerably. Overall the rooms are very good, and the staff were excellent. Great location for central park and shops.

Been staying here for years. Now a Marriott and apart from free WiFi which works very well, little has changed tho the albeit tasty room service burger was smaller than I remember. Fantastic location. Efficient and friendly service. Good bar. Well presented public areas. Rooms now getting tired. Closet door did not close. Towel rails coming off wall. Lampshades battered.

I loved the location of the hotel. Being across from the park gave me relief from tall buildings and concrete. For that reason I will stay at your hotel or some other hotel across from the park the next time I come. The features of your room were mostly impressive. However, I found the small bathroom a bit offputting. Having to close the bathroom door in order to access the toilet was a nuisance. The lighting was outstanding.

Staff - especially concierege- were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Location is great. Only complaint is the lighting in the room is very bad -could not read in bed - and the lighting in general is a pain - too much slow/dimming in the lights - regular on/off would be better. I thought I had booked a room with a park view but upon arrival was told none of the rooms with 2 beds and park views. This should have been told me when I booked. But both the location and staff were great. I would definitely stay here again.

Services lacking. Wifi didn't worki. Telephone system not working. Explanation of services not up to date. properly. One concierge rather snobby. Other staff very helpful. Hotel in transition to being part of the Marriott chain. But at that price, it did not meet my expectations. I hope that this lack is temporary.

The hotel was OK but did not have a shop The bar was crowded as people off the street were allowed in. The restaurant was fairly basic and meals expensive.The room was very small.Apart from that the staff were OK The hotel had just changed hands!!

One of the finest hotels I've stayed in. Room was massive as compared to many other NYC hotels. Well appointed, luxurious.. The best feature and why hotels have not thought of this sooner... when you got out of bed floor level LED lights provide a safe path to the bathroom! Such a simple but amazingly valuable and appreciated feature. Would recommend this hotel to anyone...

First, I told the receptionist not to assign a corner room to me. It ended up a corner room located within a dark corner with no lighting to the door. Scary I must say for a pair of mother and son check-in guests like us. The layout of this room was queer. With the luggage stand and wardrobe located at the extreme opposite end from the door. I did not pay for any view of Central Park however that shouldn't mean to assign me a room that resembled a prison cell. Finally, I had a change of room that was more standard with everything in the conventional and convenient way. The only thing that fell short of my expectation in this second room was the bed. It was not of any reasonable standard for a 5 star hotel like JW Marriot. Uneven bed surface that reminded me that it's an old bed used for decades.

Our room was noisy. The covers were too heavy, so we were uncomfortably hot all night. We could not believe Wi-Fi access was not complimentary.

Excellent!

I booked a Jr Suite. Carpet is dirty with spots and it does not look it is vacuumed every day. Service is terrible there is no one attending the front door when you ask a question to the front desk personnel or concierge the response you receive is rude and not pleasant. I am very dissapointed with the level of service provided. Will not return again to this facilities

Very convenient to locations I needed to visit

Beautiful Hotel with a nice view of the park. Staff was friendly and helpful. Love the neighborhood. Price was nice, too.

４月１０日より８泊しました。サービス（コンシェルジュの応対等）、清潔さ、豪華なロビー、申し分ありません。メトロも３駅に近いし近隣の安全性も高いです。部屋は豪華なロビー比べそれほどではありません。もう少し安価なホテルでも同等な部屋はあると思います。朝食付きにしましたが、ビュッフェの種類が少なく８泊の朝食は少し飽きがきました。それにしても、サービス、ロケーション、豪華さを考えると満足出来るホテルと思います。
