Chattanooga Choo Choo - צ'אטאנוגה

The beds are very firm, not arthritis friendly. Breakfast is really expensive, with no discount for hotel guests. Other than that, the personnel are very nice, and the location is great. Chattanooga's downtown is a great deal of fun and the Choo-Choo is part of it.

Stayed in a train car. Windows were dirty and blinds were dusty. However, the bed was quite comfortable and so were the pillows. The sheets and the towels were white and clean smelling. The bathroom could use a few hooks and a bench to put things on. The idea is unique, but it needs updating. We ordered breakfast off the menu which was very good. Kudos to Dave who helped us with our luggage checking in and checking out.

It was alright, nicely located, and some local attractions but there was a wash cloth left in the shower though from the previous guest.

Great location with free shuttle to down town attractions the run directly from the hotel all day long. Very convenient! I stayed in one of the train rooms. The room was a little musky smelling, but very spacious and comfortable. Cute hotel with a lot of History. Grounds at the center of the hotel were very relaxing. A lot of maintenance work through the buildings in the hotel going on at this time, made it feel run down. Hopefully when the work is complete the hotel will be back to its grandeur.

This was our second visit to the Choo-Choo. It is a great experience and unlike any other hotel... anywhere. It's got charm galore and from what I observed, they are currently struggling to improve the maintenance issues. Still, it has to cost a mint to keep up the huge terminal building - all the rail cars and other buildings. It was super busy while we were there and our room was a bit worse for wear, but it was comfortable and the staff were all very friendly. The free shuttle to all points downtown was right there - so we saved a fortune in gas/parking. I would advise any visitor to Chattanooga who isn't hung up on appearances to indulge in the unique experience of a one-of-a-kind stay at the Chattanooga Choo Choo!

The staff was excellent. Our 1st room did not have a couch or cushioned chairs, only a glass top outdoor table and metal chairs that were Very Uncomfortable and Heavy. There was a large area where there should have been chairs or a couch and also missing the desk and desk chair. Someone must have borrowed everything. Eventually the guys were able to find a couch to being in for us to sit on. Had breakfast in the hotel and the table was dirty... and crumbs on all the seats. I dusted off the crumbs and wiped the table down where they missed. Food and service were good; but we did not eat at the Hotel the rest of our stay. We ended up changing rooms the next day and the new room was not very clean... bathroom floor was dirty so when it got wet it made grayish streaks. The toilet was not scrubbed inside. Dirt on the outside of the tub. However, everything else was ok. The hotel is overpriced for the conditions of the rooms and the location is directly across from a vacant building. The transportation trolley was excellent with lots of stops and free... the downtown area is about 1 mile so it is within walking distance, but as you are walking, you will see the area/s you should stay away from.

my only complaint was that the room did not have a comfortable chair to sit in. The only chairs were 2 chairs with metal backs and a cushion seat. They were like patio furniture. Having a bad back and needing a comfortable chair was my only problem.

all of the staff were great. the ambiance of the hotel is the fun part. it is rated as a 4-star hotel, and there may be some rooms that are, but i dont think they all are. we very much enjoyed our stay and we walked every inch of the place. it would be smart to review the layout of the hotel before you go because if you stay in Bldg 3, it's a long walk to the restuarant or the indoor pool in Bldg 1.

This place suffers from deferred maintenance. It appears that the owners are taking everything this facility takes in and have been putting little or nothing back for years. I would suspect they will be out of business within 10 years.

Over all it was a good stay.

Completely disappointed. Low quality facility, not worth the price. Bed was uncomfortable, bathroom was extremely small. Wouldn't recommend.

My experience at this hotel was less than average. Nothing impressive. Nothing to draw me back. Room was spacious but could use updating. Toliet was dirty when we arrived so that immediately turned me off. Bed skirts on bed looked dingy. A cheap sheet type covering was provided for a blanket which was not impressive. This hotel was pet friendly and we brought our dog so that was perfect. Great location close to downtown but not at all worth the price unfortunately.

It was great view and conveniently placed for local color

I don't normally even fill these out but felt I needed to this time. Rooms where big but did not seem very kept up. The food at the main dinning was not fresh at all. We ordered a salad that cost $11 and got lettuce that look like it came from a bag with some sliced meet on it. Expected a fresher salad for the price. Waitress was very nice and a good server. She has nothing to do with the quality of the food. We gave it a second chance the next morning at the breakfast buffet. Food was better but service was horrible. Had to get up and find a server just to get a refill. The hostess served our table more then our waitress.

Older hotel and room but overall was clean and comfortable.

the indoor pol was very murky. wouldn't swim in it

The hotel was an average experience and the toilet flapper did not work and even after I told the front desk, there was no follow-up communication and it was not resolved before I left. The lobby was nice; the train accommodations were nice; shops were too touristy; the motel/hotel areas did not seem to fit the "historical places" designation. If I did it again, I would stay in the trains or another hotel near the art area, which offered more options.

We went to Chattanooga with our bicycles to ride on the recreational trails, especially the Riverwalk. The Choo Choo promised us we could leave our bikes on the car, that security was high. They delivered! We constantly saw security guards in our corridor and on the grounds. In Hotel 3, we could easily wheel our bikes down the wide hallways and take them up to our room on the long-length service elevator. The shower was great, toilet completely functional, and room clean and spacious. The waterfall makes a soothing background sound. Temperature easily controlled, if a little noisy - but easy to ignore. The grounds are fascinating, and biking around the area was great. Topnotch customer service!

It was great. Loved the covered hot tub! Only drawback was room wasn't ready at 4:00 after a 6 hr drive. Had to wait 10 min or so to get keys.

My 24 yr old son and I had a great stay. We're both railroad and Civil War buffs and this was the perfect place to stay. Upon check-in, we upgraded to a sleeper car for only $40 more. I gave my son the queen bed and I took the trundle bed, which was comfortable enough. Sleeper car was nicely appointed. Model railroad exhibit was fantastic- one of the largest I've ever seen, comparable to the one at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. Breakfast at the main restaurant was very good. The hotel is a bit dated so don't come expecting the Four Seasons. Location was excellent, just off Route 24 and just 6-7 blocks away from the restaurant/entertainment district.

The hotel was beautiful. Food service was horrible!

For the money, it could have been updated more. I didn't mind the price considering it was extremely close to UTChatt which was where I needed to be. Also, the guard at the entrance to the parking lot was comforting to a woman traveling alone.

The staff was friendly, and the hotel is nice. We enjoyed seeing the history that surrounded us, and thought maybe we'd stay in a train car next time. In February the roses weren't blooming, but it must be beautiful in spring & summer iin their rose garden. We had fun in the indoor pool, too. There's a great restaurant next door, and you can ride free shuttles to the nearby attractions so you don't have to pay to park.

i LOVED the history of the hotel... loved the lobby... very very friendly front office staff. there is a great restaurant in the hotel where they have singing waitstaff... really wonderful... reasonably priced drinks and great entertainment. love the neighborhood... walking distance to several other cool restaurants and neighborhood bars... interesting street art. THOSE are the positives... The room was very outdated. clean but not comfortable. think motel from the 70's. not worth the rate i paid. next time i would stay somewhere else and come here to enjoy the lobby and the entertainment !!

Older hotel. Could use some upgrades but overall was nice place to stay. Bathroom kind of small.

Waited 2 hours for breakfeast to be delivered to my room. Although, my breakfeast was paid for by the hotel that is still very bad service. I also had to take a cold shower. Very old and oudated hotel. I am glad I only had to stay one night!

We chose this hotel because our son is obsessed with trains. He loved it, but if we didn't care about the theme, we would never stay here again. The location was a bit scary and the hotel needs a facelift really bad. Very stuck in the past and needs some modernization. Each common area had a different weird smell. Definitely not worth the price.

It was a convenient place to stay in relation to our plans but I don't know that I would stay there again. There are more convenient places to stay that appear to be nicer and in a better part of town. My wife chose this one because of the gimmicky appearance. The rooms were clean but the bed was not at all comfortable and it was pretty noisy outside most of the night.

The hotel was not a Hilton-calliber hotel but it was clean, very nice and thoroughly enjoyable.

It was nice to be able to stay at a clean comfortable hotel and still be able to have our dog. The staff was very friendly and the campus was fun to walk around. Our only complaint would be the cost of the breakfast buffet. For the 3 of us the buffet, drinks and tip came to over $50, that seems a bit much. Other then that we had a great time and would come back.

I'm sure this hotel was great in its time. It is really run down looking (at least as far as the rooms. The light in our shower had mold in it. The shower tiles were falling off. The decor was old. We ate breakfast at the hotel and the service was bad. Our food took a long time despite the restaurant being half full and having a buffet. The food was average, comparable to Dennys. The grounds were nice but for the price all you are paying for is the nastalgia.

This is a place struggling to be relevant. I wanted to be charmed by a quaint "throwback" hotel, but it is in serious need to refurbish the rooms and common areas. The general feeling is a hotel almost untouched since the mid 70's - dim, dingy and musty. While I don't have the impression that the room or common areas are dirty, they are worn, stained, and less than fresh feeling. Stains on the carpets and water stains on the ceiling are off-putting and inexcusable. In general the flooring is uneven and worn. Additional charge - although a small one - for parking a distance from the room is an annoyance. Too few recepticles for charging laptops/ipods/tablets/etc. Half of the third floor in our building appears to be housing for UT-Chattanooga kids. They weren't a problem while we were there, but it's just wierd, and I would be nervous of their potential to to be loud or disruptive. On the plus side, hotel is very close to Chattanooga's downtown shuttle, so transportation to and from downtown is convenient. Too bad the front desk staff told us they started operating at the wrong time, making us late to our competition. I think our bedspread and dust ruffles were pretty new, but it wasn't nearly enough to make you feel as if the room had been redone. Decent free wi-fi was available. My 10 year old daughter asked that we not stay there next time we're in Chattanooga, a request my wife and I are happy to accomodate.

I love staying at the Choo Choo! Everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is amazing! I always recommend the Choo Choo to anyone traveling to or through Chattanooga!

I stayed for three nights recently and I found my stay to be fairly enjoyable. The rooms were old and showed their age, but they were well maintained and the staff kept the room very clean. The layout is rather large and spread out so if you have difficulty walking long distances, this is certainly not the place for you. The other thing that I found particularly annoying was that while the room pricing is fairly consistent with other surrounding hotels, it seems that everything there seems to be not included in the price of the room. The food onsite is not very good and extremely overpriced, the singing waitstaff at the station house seems cheesy at best. Also, I was bothered by the fact that the fee to park a car was an additional $5 a day. The one thing that I found good was the location in relation to the free Chattanooga shuttle. Overall it was a good experience and I would stay there again if the Chattanoogan is unavailable.

My wife and I stayed one night. The place smells bad. The elevator is outside with glass and noisy. Heard it all night. Expensive. No continental breakfast or even coffee. They even charge you $5 to PARK your car a long way from your building, ridiculous. I'm serious, the desk charged me that along with the room charges. I booked king, they gave us 2 queens (smaller room) then got snippy when I wanted to move to king I booked. I had to show online confirmation before they would move us. The entire experience was bad. I won't stay there again when I visit my college student daughter.

Good for a short family get away. Other than the entry hall and a few rail cars, there was little to back the name of the hotel. Location was good, but you could get a place closer to the down town, too. So...if you can get this for a good price, go for it once. I thought I overpaid, but that's because I booked a week before the trip.
