The University was nice but there was no referidgerator or microwave.

Had a good stay. Some staff were very friendly. Some not as helpful or customer service oriented, ie phoning down to front desk for certain things. Room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. About a 5-10 minute walk to downtown. Breakfast only on till 9am.

We stay here at least once a year since our daughter attend Portland State University!! Perfect location, nice continental breakfast & reasonable price!!

Excellent location, walking distance to my meeting location. Hot Breakfast was a nice addition. It would be nice to add wireless to rooms, for I Pad.

We came up for a fun weekend in downtown Portland, and had a great stay. Amenities were nothing fancy, but clean and more than adequate. Staff was friendly, especially the front desk girl in the morning who gave us a map and directions to the nearby attractions. For a hotel near waterfront park and other happening spots, this is probably the best middle of the road value. Although keep in mind to add $12 for parking, and we didn't realize that hotels.com doesn't include tax in their quoting price. All in all, we have no complaints and had a great time at the hotel.

We stayed at this motel due to its close proximity to the Keller Auditorium and the Celtic Woman concert we came to Portland to see. Our first impression of the room was satisfactory, and then we started to notice that it appeared the floors had not been vacuumed in some time. They were dirty and there were items imbedded in the carpet, the most noticeable being pieces of what appeared to be dog kibble. The bed was made up, or it appeared to be, until we went to bed, and then noticed that the sheets were very loose, like they had just been pulled up, and not remade. In fact, we thought that they might have been left over from the previous guest. The bath room and vanity area did "appear" to be cleaner than the rest of the room. The hotel staff was friendly in the brief enounters we had with them. Would we stay here again: NO.

This hotel is completely run down. The hallways smell and the decor leaves much to be desired. However, the rooms are clean and fairly large and the location is by far the best part about it. It is is right on the trolley line with easy walking distance access to all the downtown shopping. For the price, this hotel is well worth staying at over any of the other hotels downtown. The staff was very nice and helpful too.

The place is a great bargain for the location. The hotel itself is fine, but very dated. Everything is state of the art 1981 with a few exceptions.

The property is a little worn around the edges and some of the bath fixtures are dated, but still very liveable. The welcoming chocolate chip cookie and the complimentary full hot breakfast were nice surprises. (Now that I've spilled the beans, remember to act surprised!)

We stayed at this motel because of its location and price. It is a very good value and parking rates for a downtown hotel is pretty reasonable. Breakfast was full of something for most everyone. We like a light breakfast so the Yogurt and cereal was fine with us but there was more for others. My BIG complaint was the pillow in our King size bed. It hurt our necks so bad that both my wife and I ended up putting the pillow on the floor and made a pillow out of our coats! If we would return we would be sure we had our own pillows for sure.

You should know that they charge for parking - $12/ nite when I was there. Also, there is construction going on in the street (Lincoln) in front of the hotel thru the summer of 2012, tho I was not bothered by noise. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. It is a bit of a walk to downtown, but there are trolleys nearby, so you don't really have to walk. I would call it very good value for the money, especially if you do not have a car.

This hotel is fairly close to all things in downtown Portland. It's only a few blocks away from the train if you do not want to walk. We stayed in the least expensive room and chose to use that extra money for shopping at the city's many weekend markets. Overall, the hotel was adequate and in a safe neighbourhood beside the university. There are food trucks up the street and a few bars to keep one entertained.

The staff was very pleasant - everyone I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and quiet. The included breakfast was good. The hotel was undergoing renovation while I was there, but it didn't disturb me. There was also some street construction, but I was always able to get in and out of the parking lot without incident. I looked at a lot of hotels near downtown, but i'm glad I chose this one. Good value for the $.

Hotel is located nicely next to downtown for its price. Caution though, since the hotel is resides in the university district, parking is $12 each night.

We arrived at noon and they let us check in early. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Huge bathroom. I loved not having to deal with an elevator. My husband recognized this hotel as an old Red Lion he had stayed in 20 years ago. Great work out room and breakfast. Sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns, fruit, cereals, rolls etc. Very deep outdoor pool - not open this time of year. We usually stay down on the waterfront for much higher price. This was very reasonable and close to Keller Auditorium, Portland State, and not far to the waterfront. I will stay here again. Max is right in front.

Helpful staff, friendly, good location. The nights we were there it was very quiet. Breakfast was a good option. We brought our dog, he enjoyed it too.

Rooms weren't all the great, but clean, they're dog friendly ($15/day), they have free breakfast, and are located just a few blocks from downtown. I recommend it.

We were just looking for overnight stay close to OHSU .Friendly staff,great rate even with parking. But no praise for the sleeping acomodations. The absolute smallest queen size bed ever at least that's what we reserved. Called the front desk and they assured me that's what we had. Oh well one night but we muddled through but it SUCKED

This hotel needs updating.. I would not recommend this hotel. The staff was nice, friendly and very helpful.

this is a convenient place to stay within walking distance to downtown. The free rail line is right across the street. It is reasonably priced compared to other places in downtonw portland, especially with the free breakfast. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The one complaint I had was the noise level. The walls are thin so if you're a light sleeper, don't stay here.

Clean, safe, convenient place to stay while in Portland. Good breakfast options included in the price.

I like to walk when I am in Portland and this very cheap hotel allows me to walk into town easily despite it's somewhat out of the way location. Quality of decor s fine - anonymous motel - the pool looked nice (didn't realize it was there or I would have brought my suit!), easy access to the waterfront to run/walk and the staff was pleasant and helpful. definitely not in the happening part of town but for a business stay entirely acceptable - and a great price.

Service and condition of the hotel is a great bargain for the money. My only concern was the level of noise throughout the night. I stayed Saturday and Sunday and both nights I could easily hear people talking, shouting, and carrying on in the adjacent rooms until well into the middle of the night. Granted it was a football game weekend, but I was surprised that it also occurred on Sunday night. Thus, a great place to stay but not necessarily for a restful night's sleep.

Hotel is located on the edge of downtown but still within walking distance of all the clubs, restaurants and other reasons to be downtown. I stayed in August so the surrounding Uni of Portland was quiet. Will stay again.

I enjoyed my stay at University Place, and would return. Located in a very pleasant, leafy area, close to the park, but that does make it a little on the quiet side. It is a little far from some parts of town (Burnside, Conference Centre, Pearl), but the free public transport mitigates that, and the location is perfectly fine for downtown. Nice hotel, unspectacular, but good value. I would happily stay again.

University place was a perfect hotel for the quick night stay in Portland to go to the Portland Brewers Festival. The hotel is a little out of the Pearl district, but a MAX train is 2 blocks away and is in the FREE zone which doesn't make it a problem. Parking was $12 during our stay.

This was once a very nice Red Lion that has been taken over by the University of Portland. Some rooms and public areas are looking pretty shabby while others are newly refurbished. Our professional conference chose this location because of the affordability of the meeting rooms and convenience of the location. We found the meeting rooms to be very nice but the facility was confusing to find your way around. After two days we still had to stop and think about how to get back to our room from the lobby or how to get to the breakfast room from our room. The breakfast room was spacious and the breakfast was great! Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fried potatoes, muffins, toast, apple juice, oj and, of course, coffee. Although the maid came in and made our bed after the first night, we thought it was odd that she left the coffee in the coffee pot. When we first arrived, the elevator near our room smelled of urine (ick) but the next day it had clearly been cleaned and sanitized. There is no restaurant in the hotel but there are a ton of food carts and restaurants in the area around the hotel that cater to the university crowd. many of the rooms overlook a beautiful swimming pool (seasonal) that looked inviting although the weather during our stay was cool and wet.

Staff at front desk was very good-especially one young man (can't think of his name) who was extremely helpful. Room was nice and was clean. Would be nice if the sliding patio door in the room had a screen door as well. Would stay here again.

A very nice hotel. Pool and continental breakfast are very nice features. Hotel staff were also very pleasant and helpful - suggested best places for local farmer's markets. Only glitch is that my daughter dropped her bathing suit over the railing and it landed on the roof of the hotel entrance. After 3 days, of promises of retrieval, I finally got a rope and fished it back up by myself. It would have been nice if they would have just said no on the first day. Otherwise, a very nice stay.

I lucked out in finding this facility. It was within close walking to Downtown , close to MAX Light Rail and the Portland Streetcar. It was a very quiet location inside the grounds of Portland University. I'd stay there agakn. The price was right also.

Excellent hotel for the price. Offers a great breakfast, comfortable beds, nice customer service, and located less than 1/2 mile from Portland State University and surrounding businesses. The only complaint I have is finding lip stick on one of the drinking glasses which was covered with a paper lid. Other than that I over all enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to others.

Reasonable, no frills hotel with a good continental breakfast. What mad this hotel stay great was the EXCELLENT front desk staff!!

This hotel is relatively conveniently located, right near PSU. Our room was clean albeit not fancy. The staff is enormously helpful.

I had read mixed reviews of this hotel but I decided to give them a chance. I am very pleased that I did. The room was large and quite comfortable. We faced the interior garden/pool area and it was very quiet, no street noise. The rate was reasonable even though they charge for parking. There is a free continental breakfast included with the room and it was better than I expected, scrambled eggs {not so good}, bacon, sausage, potatoes, cereals, breads and rolls, yogurt, coffee tea and juice. And fresh fruit. It is also very close to the streetcar. I was downtown in 10 minutes. My husband likes the Portland food carts and there was a battery of them right around the corner on 4th Ave. I will definitely stay there again and to recommend it to friends.

Overall a very good hotel when it comes to price/location. The hotel rooms are a little bit old but everything was pretty clean. The Max or busses are 400feet away and we just walked along the river all into downtown. You just need to take 2 stops with the maxand your are right in the middle of downtown.

Except for the significant parking charge (about 20 percent of the room rate!) the location is very good in the college district around PSU. Coffee shops (wifi), bookstores, movies, museums close by. No wifi, ethernet only, cable provided. Fitness room is bare minimum. Free breakfast is pretty good.

The hotel was fine maybe a tad old. The staff did not mention the complimentary breakfast, so at nine AM when I inquired it was too late We were surprised that we would be charged such a large sum for parking.When we left the next day we saw parking within walking distance that was less than half of what we had paid.When we first went into our room we could hear every word of the normal conversation going on in the room next to us. We requested a different room, the staff found us a quieter location. The new room did have a light musty odor, but was clean & comfortable. The bed was firm, great for my husband not so much for me. Besides the parking there are no other major complaints, but we will probably not stay there again or recommend it to others.Too many others to chose from.
