We spent the night after going to the seas dogs game. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The room was very clean and nice furniture. The pool was a nice touch the following morning before checking out. Breakfast was very welcomed traveling with two kids. The only thing I would change was I wished there was a heavier blanket on the beds, but the heat made the room plenty warm in no time. Great place for cheap money!

Good location and price. The hall ways were dirty and in need of cleaning with tools, rolled up mats and garbabe etc left there for 3 days. Hard to miss these items in need of clean -up. That said, I would stay there again because the price is good and the rooms are clean. Staff was also great.

Place was great. Nice and clean. But why weren't the lamps plugged in?

The room was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful. The pool area was very cold...the water was very warm, but the air in the room itself was very cold...all of the adults were commenting on that. I would not go to that hotel in the winter time again for that reason.

We are close to the mall without the mall traffic. my kids love the pool.

The counter help was OK, but the shuttle service was horrible. On the way to the airport that very cold January morning, the driver did not know how to work the heat - had the cold car blasting cold air until we asked him to turn it down until the car was warm. When the car was warm, he then could not remember how to turn the heat back on. Worse, on our return, the shuttle driver took 45 minutes to pick ups us. In fact, all other hotel shuttles came and went as did all others who awaited any kind of pick-up. We who waited for the Howard Johnson's shuttle were the last, lone ones waiting for pick-up. The shuttle service is reason to not return to give this - an maybe other - Howard Johnson's any more of our business ever.

Room took a couple of hours just to heat up to tolerable level. Staff said room wasn't used for several days. Wife and I had to go out for a few hours while room heated up. Everything else was ok.

This is a place I will be going again

I've stayed here before in late spring, but am not sure I will return again. The bed mattress was decent enough for one person, but the linens were rediculous. I think they were twin linens turned crosswise to fit a double bed. And the adjustable heat was iffy at best. Don't think I'll return. Oh, the breakfast was good enough, but closes at 9 a.m. along with the coffee station. Couldn't the coffee be left out for patrons to enjoy later?

This hotel was located in a great spot. But there were roudy kids slamming doors untill 6 am. Throwing the screan out the windows and hotel management did nothing about the complaints. Our room would not go above 69 degrees. The blankets were as thin as the sheets. Our shampoo and conditoner that came with the room were almost empty as well as the toilet paper. This room was overall bad

Everything is OK except carpet condition of hotel. It is a kind of old hotel, so I can smell little bit of old carpet. However, it was less than my threshold. We need to think about the price of the hotel.

This hotel was good. Provided a clean and comfortable room for a good price.

Was not impressed with stay at all packed up and left early next morning room smelled of mold as well as towels associates were unprofessional and rude at times. never will go back again.

found every thing good and relaxing.wish pillows were bigger.breakfast was good w/plenty of food.

Other then we had a hard time finding the hotel, it was very good. We were given a choice of which floor we wanted to stay on. One small issue about midnight.....neighbors were a little loud in the hallway. I assume they may have had one too many nightcaps. But otherwise the room was clean, it was quiet and we got the rest we wanted.

Excellent value for the cost!

I thought that this was a very nice place for the price. I don't recall it having the greatest ratings so I didn't have very high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. I found the gal at the front desk to be very pleasant. I wish I could remember her name. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants an inexpensive, no-frills place to stay.

Nice people, great stay

Enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was convenient and satisfying. No restaurant on location but good one across the street.

We had a very satisfactory stay. The breakfast was excellent and the location is very accessible to the I95.

The hotel is located right on I95 making it so easy to go anywhere in Portland. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly. Makes a great place to stay after an all day Maine lobster feast.

This hotel was perfect for our short weekend away. We were minutes from downtown Portland and 100 yards from the ramp for the major highway. Getting around was so easy. The hotel was very clean and well maintained.

Would have given a "5" but breakfast attendant was certainly not a graduate of any customer service class. We never saw her speak to anyone, and all guests requests were met with long sighs. We asked for more coffee at 40 minutes before breakfast was to end, and the only response was a long stare at the clock. When she returned with the coffee container, it was dumped on the table with a loud thump. Another guest remarked, "Service only upon protest".

So, I guess I have a bias against HoJos...I really thought they were all outdated and in need of upgrade and/or demolition. This hotel really surprised me...probably because it HAS been upgraded and redone (I think in 2010??) It was very nice and clean. I have no complaints at all. Well, ok...I didn't like the coffee or the yogurt in the morning...but I had a delicious waffle, so that made up for it!

My husband and I stayed here on our little weekend getaway and were not very impressed. The room they gave us felt like a closet...the only thing you could see out the window was a building wall. The air conditioner was very loud and sounded like a broken truck, which made it a little hard to sleep. Breakfast was ok I guess. I will say the room was very clean, which is very important to us, and the staff was friendly. If I were to book a room in Portland again, I would probably stay somewhere else.

Friendly staff ... Kids enjoyed the indoor pool .. Rooms were clean ... Overall pretty satisfied:)

I would consider our stay to be average. The hotel is a little run down. Breakfast time was very chaotic. The space where food was set out was cramped. The staff was unable to keep up with the demand on the Sunday morning that we were there. It was nice to have a noon time check out. Thanks for that!

Our room was extremely clean and the bathroom fairly spacious for such a cheap rate. It was a perfect place to stop inbetween destinations, with a pool (3-6ft so our small child could swim too) and close to a large shopping center. Their staff is extremely friendly and accomidating (we were allowed to check in early). Overall rating: A

This HoJo is old and definitely requires updating. I am guessing that this hotel makes enough money from budget travelers so management did not care to do any upkeep or maintenance to keep this place attractive. One of the two rooms we booked smelled like cigarettes even though it was a smoke free room, but the rep at the front desk was nice and efficient and quickly changed our room to a different one. The LONG hallway of our wing of the hotel was dark and dingy. No bugs on bed but there was a huge hole on the sheet and crumbs were found on the bed skirts. Chair was stained, walls were cracked near the ceiling, bathroom counter was chipped, toilet was slanted with cover falling off, and towel rack had a screw coming out about the length of a finger. Other than that, the room was dust free and bathroom was clean. There were two sinks each room so it was convenient for two people to get ready at the same time. Breakfast was okay, but a bit crowded since there are a lot of rooms in the hotel with only a small kitchen area. I would go with a different place next time but I guess it's doable if you are on a budget and only needed to stay only for a night.

Room was clean but very dated. Was fine for what we needed.

My husband and I stayed here late August 2012 we were pleasantly surprised since the reviews we read were mixed. Location was great!!! Priced well!!
