Loved the quietness of hotel on tree shaded street, yet walkable to trams, museums, etc. totally satisfied.

Ideally situated near the Museum Quarter and Vondelpark.

My wife and I stayed here in April 2013. We booked and pre paid thru Hotels.com. Conformation from Hotels.com said "all fees & taxes paid" when checking out we were told we owed another $100 for city taxes. They then charged our credit our card for that. Still fighting that. Room cost over $200/night. There is no breakfast as there is in many European hotels. I asked if there was coffee in the lobby. Lady at the desk said."Only the sun is free" Thanks for the sarcasm, sweety. We got free in-room wifi only because we paid for an upgraded room.Standard rooms pay extra for that. We asked about using the public hotel computer. Were told there is a $5 charge for each use. The only one available for the public is directly infront of the check-in desk where you must stand with your left shoulder actually touching the desk. Our friends had a standard room they had to keep their clothes on the floor. No storage.We tried to follow the custom posted in this hotel as in others of hanging up your towels each day if you wanted to reuse them. Good idea. The staff ignored that convention and just replaced every towel every day.

Well located hotel (and will be even better wehen the Rijksmuseum reopens!) and excellent upkeep; room kept very clean and staff always most friendly and helpful. The downside was the miniscule bathroom which for a three night stay was rather unhelpful, and the fact that city tax was applied upon leaving though this had not been explained in advance.

I enjoyed the hotel. It is conveniently located near many museums. The hotel is also near a Hop On Hop Off bus stop (#8) not far from a major Casino. Many streetcars and buses stop nearby and there are plenty of shops around the area. The building itself is beautiful and allowed me to sleep with the windows open. They offer coffee and tea, bars of soap, lotion, shampoo, and even a bathrobe with slippers. The breakfast costs $15 to $20 (Euro) and the bottled water costs $5, but there are plenty of places to dine outside of the hotel. A wonderful stay!

Stayed in double room for a change and worth the extra for the extra space (still a small room). Breakfast at 19.50 euros is overpriced with so many places to eat nearby. Within walking distance of museums, Leidsplein, Concertgebouw and PC Hoofenstraat.

Perfect Quiet Location close to the reason for my visit to Amsterdam - a concert at The Paradiso..... Which was a short walk away. But also centrally placed for tourist attractions

Nothing wrong with this quality hotel at all for us ...... but it is all subjective! It's not central, isn't buzzing with nightlife.... no disco in the basement or rowdies in the bar and is in a quiet neibourhood close to quality shops. I'd say it was on the edge (walking) of Amsterdam centre and half an hours walk from central station. Staff were friendly and courteous and hotel was very clean. Our room on the fifth floor was more than comfortable with adequate room for a couple on a long weekend break. Although we didn't eat in the hotel as we wanted different experiences so we can't comment on quality the price of breakfast was very competative with local cafes. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Clean and modern rooms around the corner from high end shopping and the beautiful Vondel Park. Perfect for its proximity to the Heineken Brewery and other big museums - all walkable.

Was as was expected. Good location.

This was our second stay at the Bilerberg Hotel. Unlike our first experience, the room they assigned to us on this occasion was very small. It was a corner room more suited for single occupation. Very limited closet space, very tiny bathroom, and although they furnished a desk and two chairs, no room to stretch out. My wife did enjoy the windows on two walls, however, so we remained without complaint. I would suggest before accepting a double room at this hotel to check it out.

The hotel was very nice and located in a great neighborhood. Shopping and the museums were nearby. Internet access is extremely slow and needs to be improved.

I did not like the NO Free Internet and the charge for using the lobby computer and internet. You would think that would be free to get your plane flight information. No dinning room per say, more of a bar. Still I would say it is clean and a good hotel

Good location for the main museums and in a quiet road. i was in a room over the front door and this was very noisy at night with people retuning. the staff were very helpful and it is easy to access the rest of the city and there are several restaurants within walking distance.

PROS: * Location, you can walk to 2 great museums very easily. Van Gogh and Reik (sp?) * One block over is a Madison Avenue of high end stores LV, Bally, etc. * Short walk or quick bike to Hard Rock square area or Apple Store square area which a decent bar/restaurant location. CONS: * Room 114 a single is fine for a 1 or 2 day stay with a larger than twin size bed. *Bathroom while newly renovated was tiny with a shower that just didn't have enough separation with a circular curtain. Contrasting to the Albus that had a glass separation in a larger bathroom which was fine * 13e for a 24 hour internet login. The receipt said 256k download speed but was much faster thankfully. OVERALL: good location for a short stay over a Saturday night a competitive rate.

The hotel was in a decent location for our needs, away from the rowdiness of parts of the central area of amsterdam, but close to museums and the beautiful vondelpark. The first room we had was on the fourth floor and a reasonable size, initially the only problem appeared to be the missus being unable to figure out how the shower worked. We had arrived late and the receptionist was very helpful in recommending late opening restaurants nearby. We were there on a hot weekend and when we returned to our too it was apparent that the air con didn't work, which would have made it impossible to sleep. We phoned down to reception and a guy came up who clearly had less idea of how to work it than I did. They were good enough to give us an alternative room, this was in the basement. The room was dark andslightly small, but not too noisy. Not the best room as it didn't have the view we initially enjoyed. Also TVs in the room are really old, small, rear projection, not what you'd expect from alleged 4 star. Also, you have to pay forinternet, which wasn't explained when we got the code. Overall, iI might stay here again, but would look for cheaper options first as it wasn't worth the significant amount paid.

The surrounding area is lovely.. beautiful and quiet. Boutiques, museums and the wonderful Vondelpark are nearby. Possible to walk everywhere else in Amsterdam.. even the railway station on the other side of town can be reach in 20-25 mins. The staff at the hotel are very friendly... especially the waiters at breakfast. They rooms are very clean, good shower.. huge windows, so loads of light. The room is quite compact, but nothing is missing. We enjoyed our stay.

This is my favourite hotel in Amsterdam, quiet and less clinical than the big chains, with great access to all the parts of Amsterdam that I like. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Another great stay :)

This is one of my favourite hotels in Amsterdam. It is quaint, and well located for the museum quarter of Amsterdam. Although it is not in the centre of town, it is easily accessible using the frequent tram service which passes the end of the road.

Good location and decent hotel but certainly not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Staff was a mixed bag, some nice, some not particularly friendly. Upon checking in we were not told room number, location or anything else, having to ask instead. He did however give us a map of the city. After checking in a staff member had to come in to the room to check that the minibar had not been used, which could have been checked beforehand. The room was very small, which would have been fine if there was a decent window. Instead the only window was more of a vent located high up on the wall letting in light but not letting you see outside, resulting in a very cramped and confined space. The TV looked 20 years old and was tiny. Otherwise ok. The worst thing was however the ridiculous charges for extra services. 17 euro for wifi! 4,50 for a packet of peanuts! This is nothing other than extortion. Ok hotel but just full of disappointments. Will not return.

Hotel well located for museums, concertgebouw,and leidseplein. Hotel single rooms very small (had difficulty getting my suitcase into the room). Breakfast O.K. but nothing special. Overall a typical Amsterdam hotel.

Very small rooms. Would be better if they made the bed a little smaller so that you could at least walk round it without bumping into the chair, desk etc. Due to horrible weather, we had an early dinner in the bar and they charged 13.95 euros for a supermarket pizza that must have cost 2 euros at most. Sorry, but I think that is totally excessive and the standard of cuisine of a two star hotel at best. Not good enough.

Nice hotel, room tiny with insufficient light. Waiter could not even bring room service tray as room too small to get two people into. Bed was more like a sofa. Nice hotel, nice location, nice staff but room too small with insufficient light.

Hotel location fine but having paid decent money for a 4* hotel to find ourselves booked in to a room that may previously been the broom cupboard, where there was literally no room to bend over in and you had to lie down on the floor to access the safe (which didn't work anyway!) is freakin unforgivable. Avoid.

This hotel has a lot of potential to be better but currently its not. The room was tiny, and i know how small hotels are in europe - it was TINY. The shower was positioned so awkwardly in the bathroom, I think it was their way of being "modern" but it unfortunately didnt work. It was a shower, in the middle of the bathroom, with jsut a curtain and it just splatter everywhere!! Horrible setup. I think in the end i could have taken the setup of the room, but the room smelled so bad, like body odor. and lastly, I put up the "do not disturb" sign and 2 times, they came in and cleaned my room. I think that was the last draw and that was what annoyed me. Overall average - you could get a lot better for the price in that area.

Obviously television isn't a high priority item for most travellers. However, if you do intend to stay in of an evening and watch the box then you might wish to consider a different hotel. The reason being that this hotel places the TVs on the top of high cupboards in the corner of the room (in a lot of rooms - including expensive ones). The upshot being very uncomfortable viewing (and I'm not referring to the content of the programs here). Aside from that, a great hotel with extremely nice staff and in a great location.

Stayed here for 3 nights while at a conference and it is a conveniently located and pleasant hotel close to Museumplein and several tram routes. The room was nicely furnished and clean but very small. Fine as I was the only occupant . The staff were polite and helpful and there is a nice bar with a small outdoor terrace.

Be aware that if you are attracted to "special" advertised prices at Hotel Jan Luyken this will refer to their very small corner rooms. These small rooms would be perfect for one person but are claustrophobic for two, with little room beside the bed and nowhere to stow luggage. However, if you want to visit the museums, and are only staying in Amsterdam for a day or two, then this clean and quiet hotel is fine.

We could not have been happier. The staff were very helpful, the morning breakfast was excellent, and the location can't be beat. I would definitely staff there again when U I return.

Overall, wonderful spot to use for visiting the museums in Amsterdam. Easy walk to the central interesting neighborhoods. Room was a bit small, but clean and comfortable. Hotel was very clean and stylish ands staff was delightful.

The hotel is nice and clean and the staff are very friendly. The location is amazing, so close to Leidseplein, the Fashion district a nice Park and van Gogh Museum and Rejksmuseum. Be very careful securing the lowest priced single room,it is the size of a single room in University Residence about the size of a large walk in closet!!! But if you aren't planning on staying in the room much ( and why would you ). I would gladly return to this hotel.

This hotel could not be more conveniently located, within an easy 5-minute walk of the Rijksmuseum, the VanGogh Museum, and the Concertgebouw. The rooms are neat and clean, although very small; but then, how much time does one actually spend in one's room when touring a city? The staff were friendly but, at least some of them, somewhat distanced.

Quiet neighborhood and very, very close to Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, near a plethora of restaurants and the tram stop! This hotel is located one block from high-end stores like Chanel, IKKS, etc. Rooms were small but clean and hotel seemed well- maintained. WiFi is not included and quite pricey. I did not eat at the on-site restaurant so I cannot comment on that. Hopefully all the great reviews don't make the prices of this hotel go up!

I chose this because of location near museums. Perfect neighborhood for that. Nice residential neighborhood, just a block or 2 from museums and canal boats. Room was ok, not great, small but tidy. Carpet seemed in need of more cleaning. Staff was helpful. Bathroom small, but that's what I chose for the price.
