This hotel is not for the modern tourist who enjoys the chain hotels. This hotel is an antique hotel built back in 1902. With canopy beds and claw-footed tubs, this is the type of hotel you would wanna stay in if you like to go off the beatne path. its in a quieter part of town which me and my boyfriend enjoyed. Down one side you can walk right into Japantown and on the other you can find great late night eats like Pizza or Sandwiches. We fell in love with the old wallpaper and antuqiue smell of the place. Again, not for the tourist who enjoys the Mariott near Fisherman's Wharf. Hope this helps :)

This hotel has great customer services, good food, in a great location and gives you a taste of what old San Francisco was like. I would stay here again.

My girlfriend and I needed a place to stay in for our getaway to the city; and I think that this place is a hidden gem. After reading the reviews and seeing the price that came with them I figured why not? Yes, the beds are high, but very comfortable and even added to the overall characteristic of the room itself. There was plenty of space for our bags, the windows brought in a lot of natural light (no need for electricity--also can be covered by the blackout curtains, extra kudos), and the bathroom was simple yet elegant.The staff was very helpful and nice when it came to valet and parking. If you choose to stay here, be ready to relax and not worry about reality because their checkout is at noon which is plenty of time to sleep in and not worry about being chased out of your room by room cleaning.

Our stay there was very nice. Very friendly at the front desk. Rooms were elegant.and bathroom had been updated recently.We walked to dinner first night and took a cab the next couple of nights. Cab was only about $10.00 just about anywhere in the city..

I guess for some old is charming but for me the Majestic was old and dusty and anything but charming. The restaraunt was not open in the mornings so I had to walk 3 blocks to the nearest Starbucks and then climb some major hills to get back. There was little around the hotel in the way of other restaraunts. If I am ever in San Francisco again I will not stay there. The hotel was elected by others in my company and I did not read any reviews prior to arrival. I hope this less than flattering review will save the next tourist or business person from the unpleasant experience i had.

I would recommend this hotel & plan on staying here whenever I'm in town

Rooms are a bit on the small side, but they are well kept. Bathroom was nice and clean. Nice bar and restaurant area. Drinks were on the tourist side as far as price range, but the bartender was very helpful and friendly. This hotel is older, but it's lovely to see a bit of San Francisco history still thriving. I would definitely stay here again, it was comfortable and in a very convenient neighborhood.

Very convenient location & loved the beautiful leaded glass doors & windows. Staff were very helpful

Room was very small and no air condition but they did provide a box fan. Staff was very helpful.

Though the vintage decor was a nice theme, the furniture shouldnt of been so run down looking, fireplace should have been operable, water pressure was extremely low and room was very small to be listed as a "Jr. Suite" But what was extremely unacceptable was the used razor and toiletries left in the shower from previous guests.

We rented the hotel for my mother on her birthday. She loved it. She loved the restaraunt. The bar was also great, great drinks. There was no where to park near the hotel and the parking was full when they arrived. My father has a disability and can not walk. One of the workers made room in valet parking for them. Overall great!

Elevator out of order...no one offered assistance to get me and/or bag from 3rd floor or even told me it was out of order when I called down to get my car & tell them I was checking out, restaurant not open for lunch...not specified in info, valet handed me my car keys and didn't offer to load my bag, couldn't find coffee in the lobby...paid $3 in restaurant. Hotels.com listed hotel as being about 2 miles from medical facility I was going to...actual miles more like 5.

The hotel is walking distance to several restaurants and we enjoyed the walk. Our room was nice and clean but very small. The bed was comfortable but really high which made watching tv difficult because the tv was set low. Overall it was a decent room for a one night stay.

Only merit was it's proximity to the hospital. Just ok. Very old. Nice bed

The hotel was acceptable for the price. Main objections were that the bed was waist high (no steps or stepstool available), and that the lighting was very dim overall. Luckily I brought a mirror so that I could sit under a lamp to do my make-up. And I was just barely able to climb up into bed. Someone younger and more agile would have been fine with that. The restaurant was borderline ok for breakfast, and ok for dinner but the bar was better for dinner if you did not want to go out. Many restaurants nearby--up or down hill. Two blocks from Van Ness and lots of public transportation if needed.

This hotel is very deceiving from the outside. Once you step through the beveled glass doors, though, you are surrounded with old San Francisco charm and beauty. Each room has different wallpaper, carpets, claw foot tubs, and comfortable canopy beds. There's a bar downstairs if you want to get a nice bottle of wine and a couple glasses for your room. Otherwise there's a liquor store less than a block away. I am so satisfied with the Majestic. And, on hotels.com if you book early enough, you can get an amazing deal on a room that should cost a lot more.

This hotel is gorgeous and looks like it has the history to back it up. The room was very comfortable and so pretty. It had a fireplace that I was excited about but realized that it was only decoration unfortunately. Overall, this hotel was wonderful and a great deal, but my 2 complaints are that it is valet parking only for $25/day and the staff were not very friendly at all (other than the bartender!).

Very convenient, comfortable hotel. They started vaccuuming the lobby at 5:30 in the morning, and the sound drifted into our room. There is a funny smell in the lobby.

Really nice old hotel wth original decor and large rooms, but also the carpets hold that dated smell as well! Front desk staff was lazy in our eyes but concierge helped direct us our way throughout the city!! Walking distance to japan town.

Generally clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Bathrooms are pretty dated, however. Be warned, the staff is generally inattentive and there is no vending available and, more importantly, COFFEE to be found in the morning! If you want a soda, the closest store is 2 blocks away, likewise with the SBUX or Peets in the AM.

Great location and the room was nicely made up. The refrigerator made noise off and on all night and the toilet ran rather loudly every few minutes. This room was on the 5th floor, so no street noise, which was good. This is an older hotel, so if you like that old San Francisco charm and are willing to put up with some imperfections, this is a great place to stay.

Overall impression would be better, if complimentary tea/coffee were provided in the rooms or at reception lobby.

I was very surprised by this hotel, everything was really nice and even though the rooms need a bit of tlc, the beds and facilities were so comfortable. It's is a reasonable distance from everything, accessible by bus or cab. Credit to their bartender Dallas, who was a ray of knowledge and made everyone in the bar feel welcome, he advised some great places to go to.

the hotel is vintage and has some charming qualities. but it needs a lot of upgrades. My biggest concern was the sheets did not look clean - as if they had not been changed from the person before me - so I was not happy about that at all

King Suite (aka Herb Caen suite) worth the exact few dollars.

Exceptional courtesy at reception for any information and advice

Room was dated but clean, though bathroom could use updating to allow for room to place personal items. There is no counter space. Also could use regrouting in shower. Service was adequate. Reception desk was unfamiliar with a local museum and when asked about a gift basket mentioned in our room, we were told there should have been one in the room. We were told there is a charge for it, so we declined receiving any, but upon returning home from our vacation, we found the hotel had charged us anyway for a basket we never received. Our room was hot, and upon notifying staff about it, we were told there is no AC, but that they could provide a fan for us. Lesson learned for us. I'm assuming most smaller older hotels there do not have AC and extremely limited pricey parking.

Close to bus routes downtown. Room was large and comfortable and was good value.

While one could reasonably say that hotel decor was dated, the room was comfortable and spacious. It is not often that one has a hotel room with a four-poster canopy bed. The staff mostly seemed indifferent to our existence, but overall we felt it represented good value.

This former-mansion-turned-hotel definitely has a lot of character. The antique decor with a real wood wardrobe and a porcelain tubs with feet and toile-pattern wallpaper and flashy carpet made the place feel real fancy-like. The bar and breakfast were expensive but worth it enough based on ease. The bathroom had some peeling wall paper and a very faint hint of possible mildew but otherwise everything was in good condition and neat. The snacks in the room were a nice assortment and very reasonably priced compared to most places. Overall, a nice stay.

The hotel was gorgeous and perfectly located! Parking was a breeze. The staff was friendly and helpful while I was trying to plan this surprise trip for my anniversary. They brought up champagne and strawberries as requested shortly after our arrival. Somehow, we were even upgraded from a Junior Queen Suite to a Master King Suite. The room was fantastic and the shower took some getting used to. My only complaint was the bed - it was very hard compared to my bed at home. It was a great stay and I would definitely recommend staying here! I'll be back!

I enjoyed our stay at the Majestic. Everything was reasonably clean and the 'romantic' English / French decor was pretty cool. Didn't really have that much service to rate, but did use valet and had no problems there (quick fetch).

The majestic is a piece of historic San Fran with rooms to match. Close to the city but free of the city hum drum. space a plenty.
