We just came back from 2 nights at the pelican. Good bits first! The staff were lovely, we liked the 4 bottles of free water in the fridge everyday and the drinks menu that's free for guests between 4 and 6, beach towels and beach loungers are included in the price and the location is really, really good for the beach. Then the not so greats ---the room 208 had a wow factor when we walked in but all the novelty soon wore off. The cool retro furniture is original, so it's a bit mismatched and things are generally wobbly or broken, but hey no biggie. But the bed was hard, the sheets basic and the headrest uncomfortable to lean against.The skinny terrace nature of the hotel means only 6 or so rooms have a forward facing windows, so even if you pay for a 'deluxe king suite' with two huge windows, you're still actually staying somewhere that resembles a teenager's basement room. I woke up at 10am and had to find my phone to check if it was morning - it was that dark. Also there is no public space, just a reception. Make sure you get an ocean view, avoid otherwise.

Great hotel with a European flavor. Staff was very nice. Beds were hard but I like that. Given that it is in an area that has some of the liveliest nightlife in the US, do not be surprised if it is loud and your neighbors are having a party. Fun for night or two, the noise might get old after that...

Expensive, but the whole area is. Very different and worth the stay. Nothing else like it.

Plumbing was poor, whenever anyone flushed toilets in the hotel the showers got too hot. Service was good overall. The hotel was very busy, if you want that its perfect. Looks a little shop worn though. Internet was free and worked well. Free water in the rooms, but the best part was...free drinks for hotel guests from 4-6.

It was everything I expected from reading the other reviews. Small but nice. The shower was amazing. Didn't really open the window because there were supper loud fans in the alley outside, couldn't hear them with the window closed. I could hear the people in the next room through a door that can combine them but I think they were being to loud, not really the hotels fault. Who is fighting on valentines day? We were departing late ands the front desk held our bags, everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Great location and great staff

I had a layover in Miami and decided to spend a night in South Beach. The Pelican is in a great location - right in the middle things on Ocean Drive, very close to the News Cafe. The hotel is fun, decor is clever, staff were helpful, room/bed was super comfy, and I really liked the rainfall showerhead. I also liked that the Pelican provides beach chairs, towels and umbrellas. You can cross the street and go right to the beach.

The location is awesome, a block from the "Bird Cage" and right across from the beach. It was super congested when we arrived but the valet guys helped ease us into our stay. Check in was flawless and lots of employees offered to assist with anything we needed, an obvious sign of a well-managed hotel. The free drinks at happy hour were excellent although be careful as they are made VERY strong - no watered down "tourist" drinks here! The room was nice, about what I expected for the price. Bed was firm as others have mentioned buy didn't bother me. Lunch the next day in the restaurant was superb, some of the best steak fries I've ever had. Overall experience was very good and I'd stay at this property again for sure.

Hotel overall was pretty decent but it has seen better days (art deco does not equal old furniture, towels and bed linen were pretty worn). The location is as good as it gets, straight on Ocean Drive, 30 seconds from the beach.

Great overall! Love the happy hour for hotel guests.

PROS: AMAZING Open Bar for guests from 4-6PM, Location, Stylish-HIp, ipod dock, Decor, Check-In Staff. CONS: STIFF!!!Beds, Thin walls (could hear conversations from room next door), Small ants creeping into the room (had to ask housekeeping to do something about it.) Overall; I would stay here again if the price was right.

As we are among the older of the visitors to Miami we initially wondered if it was for us, we needn't have worried. The Pelican was very conveniently situated on Ocean Drive close to lots of varied restaurants, good as we like to eat out. The staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Our room intrigued us as it was very fifties and lots of the interior decor was well remembered by us. The only downside for us was the walking involved but the bus tour we took around the city and beach area was great as we saw lots more than on foot. The free happy hour drinks were a bonus and the food at the hotel was excellent. We would definately visit Miami again as we found the whole experience fascinating.

We had a wonderful stay at the Pelican. The room decoration was interesting and unique, the staff were always very friendly and helpful, happy hour (two hours daily) offered everything on the drinks menu - including cocktails - entirely free and the location was great for both the beach and clubs. If you have an opportunity to stay here whilst in Miami, take it. There's a reason it gets such good reviews and as a frequent traveller, I would rate it as one of my best accommodation selections ever.

Loved that they were individually decorated, a little small but ultra clean and modern, everything you could need and very helpful staff. Chocolate and weather forecast and free sunbeds on the beach huge bonus! Didn't enjoy South Beach tbut don't have any complaints about the hotel, it made the trip bearable!

Maybe I'm getting old, but this hotel may be too trendy for its own good. The rooms are very industrial. There is a frosted glass window separating the bedroom from the bathroom. I didn't enjoy seeing my fiance's profile while he was seated on the can. There was a metal fan on the ceiling that felt like a jet engine when it was turned on, blew everything around the room and was way too loud to be practical. However, the toiletries were very nice and everyone at check-in and check-out were nice. I also loved that it was on Ocean Drive.

We stayed 3 nights and would definitely return in the future. Excellent staff, quirky (read: cool!) rooms with the best shower I have ever used, unbeatable happy hour (free drinks!) in a perfect location. Beach towels and beach lounge chairs included. Decent food, too!

Had a fantastic time, made good use of the happy hour. The heart of South Beach was on the doorstep.

My wife and I booked a standard queen room for 3 days and we had a great time. The location is very convenient and close to the beach. Rooms are very clean and very well maintained. We enjoyed our stay at Pelican

The Pelican puts you in the heart of SOBE action. My room didn't have the best views but I didn't spend much time in room.

Great Hotel & great location

My husband and I loved the Pelican and look forward to our next stay there. Excellent location across from the beach-the free towels and lounge chairs were a big perk! The front desk staff was very pleasant and accommodating. They allowed us to do a 4:30pm check out for a small fee due to a change in our flight schedule. The free happy hour drinks from 4-6 for hotel guests is another bonus. I would recommend this hotel to everyone! Thanks again Pelican!

I forgot how expensive SoBe is....$25 valet parking, $16 mojitos....My room was small but very clean. The bed however was like sleeping on a concrete slab. Awful! The retro fixtures and tiles in the bedroom were funky if not a bit dated.

overall the hotel was great for the type of experience I wanted to get out of miami beach, perfect location, front beach, park, starbucks about three blocks away, all the restaurants, shops, clubs, etc. the only thing about the hotel was that it wasnt as clean as I wanted it to be but I'm very picky when it comes to cleanliness so there you go.

We loved our short stay at the Pelican! We took advantage of the beach chairs and rented an umbrella for the day. We had the best spot on the beach! The daily happy hour was awesome and had us feeling good. The complimentary waters and weather report were appreciated. Both check-in and check-out were a breeze. We were just a short walk from everywhere we wanted to visit in South Beach. The Some Like it Wet room was very nice and had a spacious bathroom. I hope to stay at the Pelican again someday!

Loved the location of the hotel and the great atmosphere around the clock at the outside cafe/bar/terrace!

If you want the Waldorf, go to the Waldorf. If you want the South Beach experience, this Art Deco hotel is a cut above.

I chose the Pelican based on other's reviews. The hotel and staff lived up to their reputation. My stay at the Pelican was very nice.

We were only in Miami for one night and wanted to be close to the beach, good restaurants, and the nightlife. The Pelican was centrally located to everything on Ocean Drive and Collins Ave. The hotel staff was great - very friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us beach towels to rent as well as beach chairs. The food was excellent. The vintage style was cool - each room had it's own theme. I'd go back for sure.

Good South Beach location, but nightmare parking, small room and no tea/coffee facilities. High point was free 2 hour cocktail hour. South beach is South beach....

Really great hotel, the highlight was happy hour everyday between 4-6pm where all cocktails were free. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were all decorated with a different theme. The only thing I would say is If you don't like loud music all the time then don't stay on ocean drive, because every hotel has loud music on all the time! I really enjoyed myself and the close proximity to the beach and shops.

We were in rm 212, big enough, nice and quiet. Just remember your iPod if yoy want any music as TV was poor unless you pay. Room under the bed if you have a couple of cases. Location of hotel is ideal if you want to be close to beach and action. Would definately stay again.

I wanted to stay an extra day in south beach after a weekend with my girlfriends, so I did some research on-line and settled on the Pelican. I am a huge fan of Diesel and upon entering immediately felt the designer come through in the intricate details of the hotel. The happy hour with free drinks from 4-6 is a HUGE plus, as well as the complimentary beachfront chairs & towels. The hotel is close to everything, being on Ocean Drive, so at night you are a stones throw away from the action. Coming back to the hotel I was surprised how quiet my room was, slept like a baby! The staff was very helpful & pleasant, my only complaint was that I asked for a 2 hour checkout being that my flight was delayed- typically I ave been offered a complimentary check-out by resort-type hotels, but they charged be an extra $50. Well worth the extra time on the beach if you ask me :) Would definitely plan on coming back, next time maybe I'll bring the boyfriend and ask for one of the other more romantic themed rooms (yes, each room at this hotel has a completely different theme & vibe- if you call the hotel before you book your stay they said they would try and fit you to a room that matches "your vibe"). Can't wait for my return to SoBe!!

The hotel is in the middle of the ocean drive day and night life. The ocean is a 3 minute walk and food options are countless. Staff are great and helpful. Will be back here again soon! Rooms are small, but that's given because of the location, but ideal for young people who don't want to spend too much time in the room but want a comfortable place to sleep and freshen up.

Positives: Great location right across the street from the beach and boardwalk, friendly and knowledgeable staff, free daily pass to Equinox gym, clean room, special mention to bartenders Brianna and Chris--they are true assets to the hotel. Negatives: bed was rock hard, no countertop space in bathroom, be prepared to spend a small fortune on parking and food/beverage (but that's South Beach in general) Would stay here again for sure.

Great hotel, great service and awesome food. Howevet,if you plan to use their vallet service be prepared to wait 20-30 min for your car.

The Pelican is right in the heart of the art deco South Beach area. We were caught off-guard with the hotel lobby actually being the Pelican Cafe, but once we figured that out and found our room all was well. The room was very quiet, clean, and well appointed. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, the valet service worked well, and the breakfast at the Pelican Cafe was inexpensive and delicious.

Generally, The Pelican is a very likeable hotel. Great location, well-kept property, good amenities like free beach chairs and towels as well as a great free happy hour. Staff were very friendly and the food was better than average too. The only compaint I have is the walls and doors must be paper thin; it was very easy to hear noise from the adjoining room and in the hallways, not necessarily from the outside of the hotel though

My husband and I were extremely happy with our visit. We arrived a few hours early and were welcome with nice smiles & warm faces. They just happened to have a room avaiable and allowed us to check in early. The hotel has themed rooms, and ours suited me very well. We had the "Power Flower" room, which tickled me, since I'm into Horticulture. The shower head was over sized and you felt like you were under a waterfall. The food was delicious, the staff was wonderful, location is perfect! It was Memorial Weekend, so it was a bit crazy, but awesome for people watching. At the end of our visit, when our cab arrived (which showed up in less than 5mins), the staff outside all said their goodbyes, waving as we left (at least 5 of them). We felt like stars! Thanks Pelican Team ... you are wonderful!!!!!!!!

Great hotel for the price. Hotels in South Beach are usually either overpriced or in disrepair or both. This hotel was neither. The rooms were very modern and decorated to a specific theme. My wife and I enjoyed the hotel thoroughly and will stay there the next time we come down to Miami.
