The only place where we got the service we expected was in the Lounge.

I have stayed at The Benson twice this year. It is a great hotel. The staff is extremely friendly!

Tub/Shower needed maintenance to fix a very slow drain. Booked two room and got assigned two rooms two floors apart without the staff asking if I wanted them close to each other, we found out after they handed us the keys.

Great breakfast cute piano bar very classy

The Benson is a lovely hotel, centrally located within walking distance of the Pearl District and Pioneer Square. The staff were extremely pleasant. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was for the very large rug stain in our room. Made the place go from classy to trashy. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom amenities were very nice. I'd stay there again and hope to get a room sans stain - especially for the price we paid.

The hotel itself is in a great location and the lobby is fantastic. The king deluxe room we stayed in was so so. Nothing fancy, very basic. The valet and door man never greeted us during our numerous in and outs. They were always on their phones texting or chatting amongst themselves. Not a big deal but just unprofessional. The check-in staff was quite pleasant. Overall a good experience but for the price i may check around since there are tons of hotels in the area.

Great staff. Room service and lobby bar were fantastic.

great hotel

The Benson is my favorite hotel in Portland - It's right in the heart of the action, both for work and post-work play. The staff are friendly, and will suggest a variety of activity, if you haven't researched it prior to arrival. Very comfy rooms. A little "old-worldy," but charming. I really like sitting in the lobby with a beer, but then I've been called an "old soul," and I feel at home in architecture from an older era.

Nice hotel overall. Would stay there again. Front desk was friendly. Gave options for parking - doesn't have to be valet. Only thing that was odd was that we stayed 2 nights and the chamber maid forgot to clean our room after the first night. The front desk was very apologetic about it when I called after we arrived back at our room at the end of the day and found that our room had not been cleaned up. Enjoyed the hotel restaurant/bar - very friendly waiter and lots of local draft beers to try!

Friendly staff and the room is very clean! Swanky and close to all public transit!

The hotel was very nice with lots of beautiful wood in the Lobby and bar. The bed was very comfortable and I was very please to see a hotel in the downtown location that welcomed my dog as much as me.

It was a great stay and very close to all the sight's of the city. Parking rate is the most I have had to pay for any other city I have visited.

The room was comfortable and quiet -- and the hotel's location perfect for all of our local sightseeing.

I loved the beauty of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. I stayed there with my one-year-old daughter and we were both very comfortable. The staff, especially the breakfast wait staff, were very pleasant to my daughter and I. Our room was very clean, and the concierge and bellmen were prompt and efficient. I would most definitely stay here again as well as recommend the place to anyone looking for a well-situated, friendly, very classy, yet not at all pretentious hotel. It would make a nice romantic or family getaway. I was also satisfied with the valet service, although I will note that there are cheaper parking garages just a few doors down that I would probably consider using instead next time.

We have stayed there many times in the past and have never been disappointed. The elegance of the Hotel --the location --employees who have worked there for 30+ years are a few of the details that make it perfect.

A girlfriend of mine and I met in Portland with our soon to be toddlers and stayed at this hotel for two nights. We can't wait to go back! We had an amazing experience, everyone was so kind to our girls, the hotel was super clean, all the staff was overwhelmingly kind and helpful. The room was luxurious, the king size tempurpedic bed was heaven. The location of the Benson couldn't be better, we were able to walk everywhere, I felt perfectly safe with my 10 month old. There is a huge variety of restaurants, nightlife, entertainment and places to walk. A wide variety of shopping is right there also. I really couldn't give the Benson a high enough rating. We plan to return soon.

Great hotel in fantastic location - definitely a Portland staple. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel was extremely clean. However, the one aggravating thing was the hairdryer the hotel provided int he bathroom. It was old and outdated. It got a hold of my hair twice, sucked it in the intake and I had to cut it free. Just a bit strange that they haven't updated their terrible hairdryers.

Great stay in a beautiful old hotel. Wonderful Jr. suite with an excellent king bed for a super price! Terrific location for walking all over the city. I do wish there was a micro wave and refrigerator instead of a frig packed with junk that I don't want. We have special diets and needed to use a cooler. It also needs to have double pained windows that helps with noise and insulation, but I'm sure that is horribly expensive in such an old hotel. The lobby is gorgeous with lovely music each night. Delicious buffet breakfast! I really loved my visit.

Loved the Benson! Hotels.com had terrific deals on the rooms, the staff was super helpful and nice, and the location is great.

Don't pay attention to anyone who complains about location here. The location and area is just fine. I am a CrossFitter and it was a 10 minute walk to CrossFit Pearl District. There are also tons of places to eat and drink in close proximity. Powell's books is also just a couple blocks away. Also Bunk Sandwiches which was on Triple D is a block and a half away. My one complaint was room size. Holy SMALL! Perhaps the smallest hotel room I've EVER stayed in. I was later told by a concierge to stay away from rooms that end in -10 and -15. BUT the beds were Temperpedic, which is awesome! Solid hotel, and I'd stay there again, especially because the price was right.

All the amenities. Clean, very comfortable and quiet room in downtown Portland. Friendly and professional service.

Overall the Benson was a fine hotel. The price was comparable to other downtown hotels and the service and staff were excellent. There are amenities in the hotel, but also plenty of small shops nearby if you want to forgo the cost of incidentals. My one complaint is that we decided to shower around 9 before we checked out, and the water for the shower was lukewarm and quickly turned cold. We told the staff, but since we were checking out it didn't really matter at that point. Hopefully the next traveler won't have to take a cold shower.

Overall this hotel was very nice. I received a good rate from Hotels.com and decided to stay based on the price and location. The hotel just had its 100th birthday and has that cool turn of the century charm. The service was impeccible and the rooms were nicely decorated. There were only two negatives.....1) I hate temperpedic (sp?) beds, and 2) it is quite obvious that double pane windows were not around back in the early 1900's. I would definitely stay there again, as long as I had a room that didn't face the street.

Within walking distance of many downtown attractions, restaurants, etc. Hotel staff polished professionals, courteous and anxious to serve. Excellent food in Palm Court Restaurant. Bathroom a bit small for 1st class comfort. Otherwise clean and well appointed.

Hotel was dusty in my room..everything qas nice and pleasant..service was great the valet parking was great. They had a problem last say with the hot water.

I work at a hotel so I know what good service is and what a room should look like. The room was wonderful- the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on at a hotel! Location was perfect- right in the middle of town. We walked to dinner, to the mall, to breakfast and to the bars. Everything was lovely. The ONLY complaint I have is parking. There was absolutely no parking- let alone overnight parking- nearby. I felt the hotel took plenty advantage of this by charging $31 a night for keeping your car in their lot (which was pretty much the only option unless you wanted to spent your whole day and night moving your car around and feeding the meters). But flying into portland I wouldn't have had this complaint...

Thanks to Linda and her professional team. This is an elegant hotel with wood paneling, a warming fire, a jazz pianist and an amazing management team. We will be back.

The Benson is a lovely hotel, with a sophisticated vintage feel. However, the service here is terrible. My friend and I ordered wine to the room twice, and no one ever showed up. Also, upon checking in, I was told that my card number would be taken for incidentals only. The next day I checked my bank account, and it was in the negative. The Benson had charged me two substantial fees for no reason. I called the front desk to inquire, and the receptionist told me that this is standard. "It is only a hold, we will put it back on your card when you check out." No one told me anything about this. I had no money to spend while I was in Portland, and now have to pay for an overdraft fee. I checked out yesterday morning, and of course the money is still not back on my card. This is an absolute disgrace. I complained to a manager, who could only offer an insincere "I'm sorry." Nothing else. This place is in a convenient downtown location, but the rooms are small, and the service is awful. Do not recommend.

A bit old-fashioned, but well-maintained, and the rooms are well-insulated against noise from the street and surrounding rooms, unlike many newer hotels I've stayed at in Portland. I enjoyed the memory foam mattress as well.

The lobby of this hotel is majestic. The room was small, but what do you expect from a boutique hotel. Everything was fine (but not great) until....I could not take a hot shower in the morning. The hotel management staff and ownership should be ashamed. There is NO excuse for that and I will never stay there again nor recommend anyone to stay there.
