It was a nice hotel the people was nice

Was checked in quickly, and received an upgrade. We were upgraded to a great king junior suite with a recently renovated bathroom. The staff was great. Each evening there was a happy hour special to kick start the evening. The pool area was small, but relaxing, the hammocks were a nice touch. Amazing location near Lincoln Road with the beach in the backyard! There was a little construction, but it wasn't a nuisance. Hotel is a little older, but kept up nicely. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel is in an original deco style building with old school miami beach charm and has a good 24hr restraunt just steps away across the street. this part is great. Beds and pillows are comfy. Walking distance to lots of shops & places to eat and close to the beach. I booked it for the courtyard and Beach style bar by the pool but that was not open when we arrived around 8p. The weather was perfect but the bar was closed and not a single person on the grounds. Only one person at the front desk taking care of everything frantic but friendly. The housekeepers were extremely noisy speaking back and forth down the hall in the morning, impossible to sleep through. A long black hair was stuck to the bathroom wall. There was mold growing on the door moulding in the bathroom. There is no parking so if you have a car its almost thirty dollars a day extra to park 2 blocks away. I have stayed at better historic places on south beach for less. For the price, plus parking fee and internet fee... I would not stay here again.

The hotel self-parking was full when we got there so we had to park in a garage down the street that was cheaper. They let us check in three hours early. The room was clean and spacious with a great view of the beach. The pool area is nice, but lackluster. The staff is very friendly. Walking distance to great bars, restaurants and hotels for about half the price as some of the big name hotels on the beach.

It was good for the price. The down side the didn't have air condition on and was humid and uncomfortable

Staff was the best part - nice and friendly. The rooms have been updated and are nice, but not a window can be opened to enjoy the ocean breeze. Who wants a beach front (almost) room where you can't open a window! They have 20 parking spaces for 140 rooms. If you are lucky enough to get a space (I was), it is quite pricey and over a block away.

Our room appeared newly renovated with plenty of natural light and windows that open. The hotel has it listed as a Junior Suite but I disagree by definition, nonetheless it was very clean with a tile floor, Jacuzzi tub in the far corner (not inside the bathroom therefore no door, no privacy) and a refrigerator sitting on the floor. We enjoyed the mainly city but also partial ocean view from our ever-so-tiny balcony. The worst about the hotel are the paper-thin walls - - - we heard the conversations from the hallway and every metal guest room door that closed on our floor with a resounding "clank and thud" noise which woke me up every time. Parking was disappointing- NO VALET OPTION - it's self-park only, walking a short distance (up Collins Ave 1/4 block, cross the street, and walk about 1/8 block), gated with a code, about 14 parking spaces total, and no attendant. The best is the hotel's location with direct beach access & lovely outdoor grounds to walk through on the way. I found the staff to be friendly & attentive-no complaints. I wouldn't pay top dollar to stay here but it's a deal if you find a 2 1/2-star rate.

Leaking ceiling in the bathroom. Noise in the room from outside all nite long. Dirty carpet. Outdated rooms, elevator, almost everything. Good Location! Close to beach, Lincoln Road etc.

Unlike other hotels south of here which are located west (towards the city) of the main road, hotel Marseilles is blessed because it sits east of it (towards the beach) and benefits from a decent pool and general hangout area (comes with hammocks under palm trees) on the beach side. I would strongly recommend this for someone who just wants to spend a lot of time on the beach/outside. In my view, the real cost per night should be $120-140 max for the quality. Parking -- extremely limited and valet; long term parking on the street is impossible. There is a garage on 16th street a few blocks away that will set you back $16 for 24 hours. In need of improvement: General areas like the lobby and hallways are extremely dated and not very appealing. You don't want to hang around indoors at this hotel. There is a bar/restaurant facing the street which makes for great people watching at night (if that is your thing) and a general noisy experience (especially in the morning, when trash and delivery trucks, buses, and the occasional hot shot on a motorcycle pass by). Decent breakfast, but on the pricey side; no restaurant in the area -- you will find plenty -- includes coffee in their $10-12 typical breakfast offering. A modest breakfast will set you back $20 with tip. Eat accordingly. No fridge in the rooms. Old TVs.

Friendly courteous staff, very clean room, given an upgrade without asking for it. Located right on the beach. I would definitely stay here again

The hotel is very outdated, I felt like I was entering the 20s era hotel, they are in process of remodeling back area of the lobby but it does not look promising our bathroom which was the size of a matchbox looked like it was just remodeled but who ever was in charge has no clue what a bathroom is for, they have this fancy and expensive looking sink which has no place to put a soap let alone a tooth brush, the positive thing was that the staff were very kind and friendly.

Hotel is under renovation. We were lucky to get a new room. Service was good. Room was clean but a little small. Walk in closet was very helpful. The only problem was noise. But it is the problem for all old hotels.

Hotel room was comfortable and conveniently located in the heart of South Beach. Building was being renovated at the time which sometimes made accessibility to floors and the beach cumbersome, but overall we had a nice stay and the staff was pleasant.

Nothing better than being right in the heart of South Beach. Walking distance to all of the dining, shopping and club options. Nice art deco hotel. Yes its an old building but everything was very clean and the staff was friendly. We'll stay there again.

Hotel is being entirely remodeled so there is lots of dust and corridors/elevators are totally trashed. Also, we found it hard to shower since there was almost no water running and AC extremely loud. Once the remodel is over, it's gonna be a great place to stay !

booked for a cheap place near Ritz (where wedding we were attending was) so it was perfect for location. it's close to great food places but not quiet at all due to street noise. we ended up with a room facing the street up on the 8th floor (only 9 floors)...all back rooms/pool view were taken, they were nice trying to find us a quieter room but none. even with earplugs i didn't get a wink of sleep. too loud with the cars, music and motorcycles riding all night long. I'm a night owl but couldn't deal with the noise after 1-5am. Construction going on to the outside pool deck area so the pool bar and consession area were closed. access to beach right there, great but you have to pay extra to sit on a chair at the beach. Hammacks in back and it's quiet cuz no one is using the area. It's good for the price for a place to crash but not for light sleepers. Bar had tvs and pool table but nobody attending the bar all 3 nights (Sat-Mon). They staff is extremely friendly and I think all the renovations will be done and it'll make the place better but def a 2-3 star place. Not dirty just loud due to traffic.

It was perfectly fine, for a one-night stay. Clean and convenient.

Overall good stay although I had a new room which was nice but could have benefited with a new rug and cleaned up from the renovation.

Overnite stay..boarded cruise ship next day

Construction noise all day long..... Oceanview rooms are ugly and wayy too simple. Do NOT give this hotel more money than u need to. A very regrettable stay for us. Our room was recently renovated and the walls and floor still had drywall dust on the floor, windows and walls. The lamps did not have lightbulbs. The water was cut off the first day we were there. We were there for hurricane Isaac and the staff was not successful at communicating with guests on any plans the hotel had or at even answering the phones at the front desk, called from my room 8 times to no avail. The hotels to both sides looked better from our 7th floor room. We were in oceanview room 716...was supposedly "renovated" but was plain white with the same old scratched furniture, tube TV, squeaky king bed, and ugly lamps with no lightbulbs. Horrible stay, I'm hoping management reads this.

What I think of this hotel? Dirty carpets, old looking, low pressure water, noisy A/C, no free WIFI, bad food in restaurant, slow service.

Six family members stayed the weekend. Our stay was generally very good, but we had two minor complaints; the desk staff and so-called concierge knew very little about the surrounding area, and there were no newspapers whatsoever available in the hotel. Two of us stayed an exrtra night at the South Seas hotel next door, and it was better: same price (off season), rooms very similar, but better pool area, breakfast included, and free New York Times!

I got a room for the weekend and had friends over at the pool and in the room, No problems and no complains. It is pretty old inside but I stayed for the location pool and beach, not the room. The beds are kinda hard but if you have been partying you wont mind.

The location was fantastic, however the condition of the hotel was a let down, it needs a big overhaul to bring the hotel to life. Everything looked old and when we were there most of the bars/restaurants on the grounds were closed. Staff at front desk were not helpful as they couldn't really understand english and the front of hotel cafe staff were very rude.

We were lucky enough to get one of the renovated rooms. It was comfortable. The Lobby bar was never open and the beach bar area was boring with unfriendly help. In the evening hours the hammocks were being used by the homeless to sleep in. I did not feel at all safe there and wound not recommend it. A pair of my husbands sandals were stolen from ouy side of our room.

On the whole, a middling to mediocre experience. Location was just right though - within a few blocks walking distance of the conference I was attending at the Convention Center. The rooms were old, and the bathroom showed its age - not even as good as a Motel 6 in most places. Cracked paint, some chipped tiles, dingy overall. There was a gap between the door and floor, leading to noise coming into the room when people walked by and were talking a bit loud. If this were a vacation trip, I would be far more disappointed, but for a business trip (where I was not in the room much), it was just okay. Most disappointing was that I forgot a hanger from my expensive Samsonite carry-on (has a good fit inside the case) in the closet. Two or three calls later, I have given up trying to get it back - I always seem to be calling at the wrong time and the front desk will not take messages for the cleaning staff. Oh, well. The restaurant is pretty decent though, but it was very inconvenient not being able to bill the meal to my room.

This is the second time I've stayed at Marseilles because of the location and price...price is not as good as it once was, so this may be my last stay. As others state, it's an older hotel and needs a great deal of updating. The pool, tiki bar, hammocks, and beach access are great! It's close to many restaurants and shops (Lincoln Rd), but be prepared to walk quite a bit if you want to spend every night on Ocean Drive (or cab-it). The staff seems friendly, but doesn't always respond promptly. Examples of issues I had: Safe battery died with my electronics inside, kitchenette sink trickled all night, a/c didn't cool well, tv didn't work well, my room was next to elevators so lots of noise...I like to have fun, too, so I don't complain much about noise unless it's after 2am. I would recommend Marseilles if you get a good rate and don't plan on staying in your room, but want to be close to everything and save some money to eat, drink, and shop!

Depending on what you want, this might be the place! Beach on one side, busy street on the other. Great access to the beach, close to Lincoln Rd Mall, and many other places on Sobe. Noise is definitely at a premium! It comes through from outside very easily so don't stay here if you are awakened easily and want a good night's sleep. Doors close very loudly too so the late night neighbors may also awaken you. Staff was very helpful in storing luggage since we arrived before check-in time. Helpful, too, in getting a cab for trek back to airport.

I would like to say that our stay at your hotel was wonderful! We had the time of our lives and didn't really have to go far, the surroundings of the hotel was enough. From the hammocks to the tiki bar & pool area, to the beach! Thank you Hotel Marseilles for a wonderful stay! I'm looking forward to my next vacation with you. Cordially, Annette & Shaun, Queens, NY

after attempting to check in a little after 3pm, being told my room was not ready, please wait just 15 minutes... fast forward an HOUR AND A HALF to 4:30pm I asked to see a manager. A manager appeared to say the room was ready and he was sorry but when people party and get drunk in a room there is nothing they can do to get them out. That Florida law states they cannot make them leave. When I protested then did you charge them for this night ??? He said no, that there was just nothing they could do, this was South Beach and you know how that goes... I told him I do well know as I used to live on SoBe, but I also know how to run a business and that is the most riduculous excuse I have ever heard. Was just ready to check into my room. My room while it looked fine, was saturated with cigarette smoke. I attempted to turn the A/C down to see if that and an open patio door would clear it and the thermostat was set to a default of 70. I went downstairs and turned in my key, got the managers name, advised that I would not be staying and why and left the property. Checked in at the Shelbourne which I have stayed in before. The hotel is listed as a completely non smoking property, clearly they have serious proper management problems. I reported this by phone to hotels.com, so I expect that this charge has been removed.

Location was great and room was fine. Hoewver, We needed a double roomand were put on 3rd floor over the street. There was a bar across the street and music was loud until midnight. We also had some very loud folks in the hall throughout the night. We asked for help but staff did not seem concerned. Might be good if you are planning a late night partying but was not what we were looking for.

I found the hotel without much trouble, but as I drove down from Tampa, found that parking your car was a real problem. Little to no parking in this area. Best to take a taxi from the airport. The room was comfortable and I actually found the bathroom window opened to allow in the great ocean breezes. Lots of good restaurants in the area, no room service, but easy to order and take to your room for a quiet meal. Since the cost was way below other local hotels, was quite comfortable, a few grades above a Motel 6, but cost made it quite fine. I'd recommend this hotel and would stay again at this hotel.

Great location and best price. People were friendly. Pool was nice and warm ( better than Royal Palm where we stayed 3 days) . For the price very nice place. Me and my wife loved it. By the way ask for remodeled room! Have fun!!!

The room wasn't terrible. But the bathroom was. Bad AC, uncomfortable bed. Staff wasn't the nicest. The pool and tiki bar was great though. As was proximity to the beach.

Terrible. Old, unclean, but worst of all, the staff makes you feel like they are paying YOU to stay here.

Not the best place I have stayed but the service and hospitality of the staff was exceptional! Beach access. Room was a little old, the bed was not terribly comfortable, but it was clean. Biggest drawback were the vented doors, which brought all hallway noise right into the room.
