Swallow Carlisle - קרלייל

Staff and food at the Swallow was excellent, very dissatisfied with our room. Badly needs renovation and far too hot, had the fan on high and slept on top of the bed. Leisure Centre very well staffed.

The whole hotel was extremely run down, tired and in need of a good clean and redecoration. It doesn't look as though it had been touched since it was built. The staff try hard to do a good job in dire surroundings. The carpet! in our ensuite had an inch wide band around the edges which was thick muck. The lamps either side of the mirror had unmatching shades. The dining room was depressingly in need of a make over as was the swimmimg pool. There was what looked like a new carpet on our stairway, but it clearly had not been vacuumed for a while. This hotel is not up to the standard expected of a Swallow hotel.

Unaware of my (paid for) booking. Room too hot - nothing to do with outside temperatue. Items unavailable at breakfast

Our stay was fine. We paid £50 per night for bed and breakfast per night and I think that was a little too much. The breakfast was quite good. The leisure facilities were good.

One night stay mid way to Scotland in early, freezing April. For the price of m'way motel this Swallow is a far better place to be. Friendly staff, comfy bed, warm room, excellent hot and cold breakfast, a good gym and pool, free parking and a bar where the prices were not unreasonable. Refurbishment ongoing - new carpets, flat screen TV in room - bathroom a bit tired and needing attention. All in all, no complaints and a bargain at the price. Location a bit out from city centre to walk, but plentiful on street evening parking in town. Alternative fast food outlets on nearby retail park. will certainly use again

Very shabby, dated and showing its age. Friendly staff. Good value for money if you get a deal.

Positives: very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, warm room with plenty of hot water, hotel location good - walking distance to city centre, leisure facilities excellent, with pool sauna, steam room etc. Excellent value for money. Negatives: very dusty on and behind radiator in room, poor choice of TV channels.

Hotel is 'tired' and in need of renovation. All staff very helpfull and friendly. Food very good; great breakfast!

Stayed 1 night and hotel is obviously dated but the few staff around try. Rooms are tidy and clean but food was way overpriced and cream on sweet was off !! Told guy who said 'I just watched him make it' instead of apologising and replacing which he eventually did. Cheap oven chips with a £20 steak also not good. Overall, hotel ok but food bad and £££££££

Its an OK hotel if you're after a budget stay. Bonus is the gym and pool. A bit out of town, opposite a retail park.

The staff are trying very hard to do their best for a hotel that is in Administration. The service cannot be faulted, but little things like no bath mat, and only 4 tv channels due to the Administration are frustrating. The Spa has been fixed which is great news because the pool and spa are our main reasons for staying here. The DB&B deal is great value as the food is V good.

The hotel was very dated. The wallpaper was peeling off the the walls in the bedroom, although that was the least of the problems. I couldn't turn off the heating and it was unbearably hot in the room. The food in the restaurant was OK but the wine glass was dirty and had a lipstick mark on it. The staff were OK but didn't go out of their way to help.I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is old, but is undergoing a complete renovation now. The staff were kind and courteous. The corridors are a bit warren-like, but are well defined with room numbers.

Hotel is trying hard to upgrade and staff are very helpful, would stay again.

It was ok for what I paid!

I used to stay regularly at the Swallow Hilltop, then one of the best hotels in Carlisle. It still has all of the four star facilities, but it's looking a little jaded in both external and internal decor. However, a major re-furb programme is underway and the job is being done well. Quite simply, given the facilities, the location, the service and the fact that this is a REAL hotel with a decent bar, restaurant AND leisure club, at £39.00 per room per night B&B (very acceptable Full British Breakfast) through Hotels.com, it's unbeatable value for money. Highly recommended.

Has been redecorated and new carpets and is slowly getting better. An ideal overnight stop for me when travelling back home from Scotland but not one I'd bring my wife to.

This hotel was run down and possibly the worst I have stayed in. The decor was dated and wallpaper peeling off walls and heavily marked. The whole building was in need of a huge makeover and the photo they use in the booking section clearly isn't what you get on arrival. Luckily I arrived late and set off early.

The hotel entrance and public area have be renewed and the rooms are being done over a period of time. The room I stayed in was very clean but past it's sell by date. Could not fault the breakfast a buffet stye so you can fill up for the day. Ideal for an overnight business stay.

The hotel seemed aged and jaded breakfast was unimaginative and the car park was in poor condition

In need of ungrading, currently under renovation. Pool very small and jacuzzi not working during our stay. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Convenient for city centre.

Stayed here a year ago, what a change, new carpets, very enjoyable bar meal, decent breakfast, polite smiling staff, all making it a decent stay.

Hotel in process of being renovated so new carpets being laid. Hotel room dated and a water stain on ceiling. But everything was clean. Hotel staff were very helpful especially as we didnt arrive until after midnight ! The hotel was full and as a result breakfast time was very busy. Good assortment of everything. It was a good cheap hotel which was close to the M6 so very useful for an overnight stop.

Thought the Hotel was perfect for our needs.Will be staying there again soon. going North or South of the Border.

Only stayed one night, room was fine - shower was slightly weak, breakfast was good, but a bit of a delay in replemishing demanded items ie bacon etc, but fine for the money.

very dated, staff very useless, food very basic, rooms very poor condition, bath tap did not work reported it but knowone came to fix it, mould on ceiling tv did not work, would not stay here again!

I had read the other reviews, so I was not surprised to find the decor tired and scruffy. The key elements (sheets, bathroom) of the rooms are clean, but I twice put my hand through a cobweb in other parts of the room- I have never done this before at a hotel! The beds were not overly comfortable. The shower was unusable, as for some reason you could only get (very) hot water running through it- at least the bath tap mixer worked. At breakfast, another first: despite our being down a few minutes after breakfast started, they had run out of white bread! As I had expected from other reviews, wi-fi did not work in our room, but it was fine in the bar area. Overall, I was not dissatisfied, however- we were only using it as a stopover, and it was the cheapest hotel we could get at short notice. The leisure club looked OK, but we didn't have time to use it. We slept OK, and breakfast was passable, apart from the bread issue. We had fun with the quiz machine in the corridor- I wish more hotels had one! This is therefore a very unusual hotel- it has good facilities on paper, but instead of smartening it up to compete with the Holiday Inn end of the market, they seem to keep inverstment very low and compete at the low end, largely on price. I wouldn't avoid it, but make sure you understand it's strengths and weaknesses before booking a stay.

First room was damp moved to another room after we complained. hotel had buckets as water as it dripping from the roof in corridors. We only stay for one night cancelled the other two nights staff were good tho.

The hotel is not the greatest hotel you will ever stay in and the web photographs probably do it more justice than it deserves but it is terrific value for money for an overnight stay if you are travelling via Carlisle. The food is better than average and the pool and spa, although small, give an excellent oppurtunity to unwind. The staff are friendly and accomodating and the rooms are clean and tidy.

Room was dirty and damp, the radiator had the control valve missing so couldn't heat the room, none of the staff managed a smile, eat out but breakfast was okay.

Nothing about the stay at this hotel was good, Had we known it was in administration we would not have booked. The hotel needed refurbishing urgently and to say it was 3 star was not correct. The staff were trying very hard to deal with what they had but never would we recommend this hotel to anyone..It was just as well we only stayed one night.

It was okay hotel is looking tired and needs investment in updating it

The shabby state of the hotel was well documented in other reviews I read but I could live with that for one night. What was unacceptable was the prevailing attitude of staff, with only one or two exceptions, that guests were an inconvenience. My friends and I were variously snapped at and ignored and only got decent service after threatening to leave the restaurant - which only lasted until a coach party arrived, at which time we were ignored again. Staff started noisily setting up extra tables in the bar from 10pm, forcing guests to move from their seats and generally making us feel like we were in the way. Prior to that, staff had actually argued with guests (not us) about what TV channel as staff wanted to watch the football! At times, we were seriously looking for the hidden cameras... So much needs to be done on customer service, which is more important than new carpets.

I'm sure this hotel was very nice in 1984 which is around the same time any money seems to have been spent on the general upkeep of the hotel. Being on a business trip i chose this hotel for two reasons; 1. Wireless Internet at no extra cost. 2. Room service. The wireless internet was not available throughout the hotel, in fact it was bearly available at all... i found a spot in the bottom of a stairwell where i could just about get a signal, sitting on the stairs with a laptop is not a good look. Upon entering the hotel, and when in my room there was no mention of room service anywhere, no menu in the room etc.. There was a leak in the ceiling of the corrider outside my room... The TV in my room had very few channels and a very poor discoloured picture which i was unable to make any better. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

Overall the hotel reflected the rate we paid, the hotel is need of some serious tlc, but by enlarge wasn't a bad stay. The leisure centres staff were helpful and freindly enough as were the other guest there. Breakfast was buffet style and everything easy accessible , we ordered one item to be cooked that wasn't on the buffet which arrived speedily and to good standard. Think the hotel need to take off the room service button on phone, there's more chance of getting hold of a dodo.

This was just a last minute stop off to avoid the travel disasters of Thursday night. Itnwas cheap for bed and breakfast and close to the station, so on that basis it fit the bill. The hotel itself has seen better days, very run down and shabby, but my bed was clean and comfortable. The false fire alarm at 6am and the noise from the corridor all night was not particularly conducive to a great sleep; but the breakfast was good and the staff polite and friendly.

Stayed here 4 times already nothing fancy but comfortable and clean, great base for lake district and exploring. Plenty of choice with pubs and restaurants in the town area and shopping too. Leisure facilities are bonus too great to unwind in the steam room after a day out. Bar meals available in hotel if you don't want anything fancy. Enjoyed it again and will be back.

CAR PARK VERY POTHOLED, INSIDE RUN DOWN, I ASKED FOR A COFFEE AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL EVERY ONE ELSE HAD BEEN SERVED. NOT AT ALL THE STANDARD I EXPECT FROM SWALLOW HOTELS. WOULD I STAY AGAIN. NOT A CHANCE.

Hotel is "falling apart". Staff are doing good job but hotel urgently needs maintenance. More black tape than carpet, no need for alarm clock as water system will wake up entire hotel as soon as some-one starts to use it.
