Nice big rooms, helpful courteous staff, food was fine although usual overpriced hotel breakfast. overall thumbs up from me

Service was excellent, they went out of their way to provide printing facilities for a grooms speech. Restaurant had a nice atmosphere and lovely decor. Overall could improve menu, most meals were fine, there was a small helping of cod for a main meal, chips a bit greasy may have been a busy night, and the bar a bit more expensive than usual.

Very good hotek with wonderful evening menu

The staff could not be more friendly and willing to help, need to say that from the start. However, I felt let down by the Mercure overall. They knew in advance we were travelling with our 11 month old daughter but put us in a far away room in the annexe that was only accessible by a 100m walk in the freezing cold Novemeber wind and rain. Not a good start. Get to the security door that you need to swipe your card in to enter and.....it didn't work. Leave wife and daughter in the cold as I go back 100m to reception to get a working card. Back again I go to the door and we get in. Then find our room is basically in the basement when there is clearly plenty of spare rooms on the ground level. Accesibility with the daughter and baggage an issue clearly not thought of. Get to the room and opposite a room having a hen party. Now even more unimpressed. Get in the room and the travel cot we had asked for is not then. Get annoyed now. Back to recption, ask to be moved and ask for travel cot. All done by nice friendly staff. Room we were put into hasn't been cleaned properly and lots of heavy dust in areas that should have been clean! Next night we try the swimming pool. Didn't know it was open to non-guests. Get there and find we can only use a very small part of it because some kids are having paid for swimming lessons!!! Really??? Breakfast was seriously laclustre, too. Would not recommend this place. Looks lovely but go eslewhere.

Clean and well maintained hotel. Very noisy rooms (doors banging/foot steps and conversations), not enough staff, had to wait at reception for 5 mins to be greeted and then at the bar for 10 mins to be served. On both occasions there were no staff even visible. Nice setting in a peaceful location rather spoilt by the modern extended rooms / cheap construction techniques.

I had a lovely stay at this hotel the staff were very good, any thing I wanted they helped with, they got me another cable for my i pod as the other wasnt workingt well, I didnt know the local area and they were really helpfull.the room was spotless, location was pretty and the facilities were in great condition. I missed breakfast as I over slept and they didnt try to over charge me they took it off the room with no questions.

An excellent stay - friendly staff, who cannot do enough for guests, beautiful surroundings, food of the finest quality - a place to stay time and again.

A little remote from the lovely Shrewsbury centre but the rural locale makes for a peaceful haven with no traffic noise. Did not dine at the hotel, however, menu and restaurant looked promising and not too expensive. The bedroom was quite spacious, well finished and in good order. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area.

We have stayed at the Etrop several times in the past and this is the first time I've been disappointed with the room service. Our room was set up for one person and although there were extra towels in the closet, there was only one glass and one water bottle. I had asked for another glass and water for my husband and an extra pillow for myself but nothing was ever brought to our room. I called twice and would have gladly gone to the front desk for the extras we needed but was told the items would be brought to the room shortly, there was a slight delay because the hotel was busy.

Friendly and very helpful staff, good food but the place is poorly maintained with many items needing attention both generally and in our room and the feel of slipping standards from original. Poorly cleaned with stained carpets which are wearing through on the stairs

This was a nice find. We had driven over three hours and were ready for a short rest. The Mecure was very warm and welcoming. We had a problem finding it initially because our GPS sent us to the wrong location. I called the hotel and they talked us into the entrance gates. They were very helpful. Our room was very spacious with glass ceiling to floor windows on one wall looking out over the pond with a fountain, the bath room was enormous with a full tub/shower combo, vanity sink and towel warmer. We had drinks and lite bites in the lounge while we waited for our dinner table to be ready. The menu offered a delicious selection and everything was wonderful. This is a definite return to place on our list of stay-overs. We would recommend it to friends.

Stayed just 1 night overall super hotel, great staff beautiful room nice food.Only think for me which was a little disapponting was choice of TV stations, not much when you consider how many you can enjoy at home.

this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. much better then the 5 star hotels we have been to and would stay there again.

nice hotel. Good quality room, clean etc. Spa was great. Will stay again.

In one word excellent

The hotel was lovely too look at and Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had requested an accessible room without stairs due to difficulty in walking. This had not been noticed. We were first given an annexe room quite a walk away which only had 2 small attic windows which we declined, then another room with 2 windows which was fine clean an spacious, but no air conditioning.The hotel was full and the staff on reception did their best.Dinner onAug 13th in the pannelled dining room looked as if it would be special, but it was sooooo disappointing.All food was beautifully presented, but smallish portions and mostly tasteless. My partners lamb needed additional vegetables and was bland to taste , not what you expect from Shropshire. I had fish and chips - the fish was nice but peas tasteless and chips awful .My cheese and biscuits were OK, but served with soggy grapes and celery I wouldn't have fed to a rabbit.We complained to a waitress who said the chef sent his apologies ! The spa is good, with a good sauna and steam room area and very friendly staff. The grounds were lovely , but lacked enough outdoor seating as the weather was good and would have liked to sit and read. There is a huge climbing/ rope frame , a sort of adventure playground for teenagers, which you have to book and pay for, but iut looked great fun.Altogether an enjoyable stay spoiled by small disappointments which shouldn't have happened.

good hotel, friendly staff, relaxing leisure facilities. However, Hotels.com advertise complementary bottled water in rooms.... there wasn't any, and said fresh milk each day which we took to mean there would be a fridge... no fresh milk and no fridge provided.

COMFORTABLE ROOM AND EXCELLENT SPA AMENITIES. LOCATION IN AN IDEAL AREA FOR GETTING INTO SHREWSBURY AND TELFORD. A VERY ENJOYABLE STAY.

We booked this hotel mid week as we were off to my friends wedding in welshpool.What a find and bargain. From start to finish everything was perfect.Breakfast was great and cleanliness of everywhere was exceptional.Will certainly return again.

Had a fab stay at hotel only one slight problem room was too warm

The building is really nice and the room we had was large and very comfortable. The pool, gym and thermal suites are also very high quality. Stayed for 2 nights the weekend before valentines day and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are very helpful and the food is of a very good quality. Would certinaly recommend.

Nice warm room it was very cold outside , very friendly staff, I only eat a light breakfast so refused as it was a extra £10. Supper in the bar good value very nicely prepared, wine by the glass good but red was cold and expensive by the glass. Good swimming pool small but very pleasant. Hotel goood value for money.

This hotel is certainly not worthy of 4 star status. I unfortunately booked 3 weeks of hotel hell at this place in a block booking and had poor service and awful food on every week! Issues included an ice cold shower, no running water, blocked shower tray, blown light bulbs, dirty towels, microwaved english breakfasts and digusting food that was over priced and had to be sent back to the kitchen. During one of the weeks there was no lager on tap at all for at least 3 days - Totally disorganised. I used to like the Mecure brand and booked with them a lot however after such a poor response and virtually no customer service I will never use them again. I was offered a complimentary meal yet due to their atrocious internal communication I was presented with a £125 bill at the end of the week when I had only ever ordered 1 meal which was so poor it was sent back. The over-charge happened because supposedly inclusive breakfasts and the complimentary meal given as a apology appeared on the biill and receptionist was not informed of the situation so had to fight the bill and made to look embarrassed infront of other customers. An experience that meant I was late and had to miss breakfast. My advice is stay well clear of this place.

This hotel is set in a good location outside of the town centre in its own grounds. The gym facility is ok too with good spa/thermals facilities. Drink however is expensive, food over-priced especially given the only average quality and was horrified to be served english breakfasts in little china bowls which had clearly been microwaved! Dirty towel found on arrival and faulty plumbing in room meant no shower however this was quickly rectified with full apology which appeared genuine. Tip: Do use this hotel but if you have a problem make sure you inform the team who have been good at dealing with any issues I have experienced.

Booked for a quiet one nigh stay near Shrewsbury. Although the new section we were in seemed a little isolated from the main hotel, the room was clean, spacious, with a super king sized bed and most importantly peaceful with no noise at all. Staff were very pleasant and helpful; went out of their way to bring a drink to the room when we returned after the bar had closed. Leisure club was great with small warm pool, two saunas and steam room and an ice room ! Change rooms were clean and well equipped.

I was thoroughly disappointed with my stay at the Albrighton Hall hotel. There was stains from a leaking ceiling upon my arrval and a dirty towel left for me. Despite this apparently being a 4 star hotel, wi-fi is not included and they charge an eye watering £40 extra for it! This is th efirst hotel I have ever experienced this and I believe it is indication that they do not understand their customer base. Food at Albrighton is also over-priced and of a substandard quality. Whether its microwaved english breakfasts or lamb casterole which is on par with bargin ready meals from the super-market (only Albrighton Halls costs around £16), its hard to find a good value plate of good food. Save for one member of breakfast staff, many of the waitresses seem to be poorly trained and never smile or say thank you. Indeed I was left to wait 15 minutes to be served whilst two young waitresses gossiped to each other in the kitchen area in clear view through the double doors. Very poor service and no apology. Albrighton Hall also has a gym and thermal rooms, however throughout my stay the thermal rooms were either all out of action or mostly out of action and the floors in the changing room, pool area were absolutely disgusting meaning I showered twice after visiting. The location is great however there is no way this hotel is worthy of its 4 star status. I am usually a keen customer of Mercure and have used the brand many times in the last 2 years however this experience has put me off!

Hotel's public areas have nice 'country-house'-type feel. Our room was in a more modern extension and though large and pleasant, the details weren't perfect (rust and mould in bathroom etc). Swimming pool was fairly well kept if a little small (10m) Some of the staff were very good, others appeared to be very new and struggled to know what to do (and to understand English in some cases). I was amused to overhear another guest ask for a pint of cider with dinner and after trying to explain what that was, he was asked whether he wanted it with ice... The whole experience was far from polished which was disappointing because it could be so much better if managed properly.

A last minute booking at a fantastic price. Had difficulty in finding the hotel in the dark but the reception provided us with these details when we called. Very remote, but as it a spa hotel this was ideal for a quiet getaway. Shame we didn't bring out swimmers to experience all the hotel had to offer

Lovely hotel but spoilt by- ash trays at front door and path so you had to walk through the smoke, charge for use of internet from £7 for three hours, stayed in school house which is seperated from the main hotel and the night a wedding was on was very noisy but no staff in the school house to deal with it.

This hotel is set is beautiful grounds. The pool is much smaller than it looks in the photos. Staff are lovely and helpful. I have to say though that on one evening the bar meal was very chaotic and on one morning breakfast was disorganised - no plates, butter on table and the orange juice was empty - we were down about 40 mins before the end of breakfast. I think it was a service issue with perhaps the need for more staff on both occasions. Overall worth a stay.

The hotel has a nice lake in front and some minor woodlands but not very interesting or extensive planting. Leisure facilities are very good various sauna, steam and ice rooms as well as a decent sized pool. Room sizes vary a lot from large grand rooms in old part to standard modern rooms in newer parts.

The best review this hotel can get is the comment from my wife "This hotel is a find"!!! the setting is fantastic the hotel room was comfie and the staff very friendly. A pity we were only passing through over night, a few days here would be nice.

staff were good. polite and freindly. the hotel is in a lovely setting and the room was large. the hotel room is the place where most guests spend the majority of their time when in the room and there was a little attention to detail lacking there. toiletries which had been used were not replaced consistently. also, there was no way of telling if the mineral water in the room was complimentary or not and if so how much it cost. i rang up once to ask and was told someone would get back to me, they didn't. this is a little sloppy. that information should be contained in the room and when someone asks because it is not it should be a priority to find out.
