The bed was very comfortable and room was very clean. We had a restful night which was important to us since we were racing the Seat Otter Classic the next morning. This will be out go to place for the years to come.

I was very hesitant to stay at a Howard Johnsons since I haven't had great experiences there. I drove to the hotel expecting very little and before I took the room I asked to see it, I was a hotel/motel maintenance man for many years and I wanted to see if it was adequate...It was a very well maintained property and was a great value. The gentleman at the counter was pleasant and courteous and the location was central to where I wanted to be...I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg just for a clean room...One Caveat is, if you need to use the elevator after 10:00pm stay somewhere else...For some reason they close the elevator at night...

It was OK considering the rating. Comfortable and clean room, adequate breakfast, not a very good location.

The hotel is near the "main" street of Salinas. Rooms are small, but just fine. TV's are not flat screen, but you get plenty of channels. There was a mini fridge and mini microwave in our room. The breakfast was minimal. Breads, cereals, and a waffle maker. There was a fridge that said "eggs, yogurt, milk, etc", but all it had in it was more bread and some milk. The customer service - which was just a guy in the front room, who watched TV in the back and would come to the front when you hit the bell - was quite poor. He was very rude when we came in and when I asked a question about the price, he snapped at me. When I leaned over the counter to see what he was doing with my credit card (we'd already paid online, so this was for "incidentals", he said, "Why are you so worried about your credit card?" Um....because I don't want you making a copy of it...which he did. Still, our room was fine for our one night stay.

Motel. Not hotel btw. Room was 60 degrees tops when we arrived in it. Took an hour to warm up. Breakfast was ok. Small. This is on par w motel 6. Barely adequate.

OK, I was happy to see they upgraded the TV channels.The breakfast is still poor.

We had some very noisy neighbors in the room next to us, with no one answering the front desk phone when I called to report. But matter was resolved when we spoke with front desk the following morning.

Big clean room, fridge, microwave, full pressure shower, and beds were comfortable. Manager was friendly and the cleaning staff was very helpful.

Room was clean and modern (like just remodeled) but feels like they forgot to do the bathroom (felt old).

We were there for a family event and it was convenient, economical and a basic place to stay. The room was a little cramped. If one person was using the computer desk and the other needed to use the bathroom the computer person had to get up and move or you had to crawl over the bed to get to the bathroom. If you were at the sink and the second person came out of the bathroom the door would hit you. Not major but a little inconvenient. Carpet needed cleaning but otherwise clean and the bed was comfortable.

I don't care for the location but Salinas in general is a tough town. I was hassled by drunk guests the first night as I arrived after 10pm following a music rehearsal. Manager on duty was kind and saw what happened but didn't indicate what he would/could do about the problem.

Hotel.com is great first time user . Howard Johnson was real nice I will stay there again

it was clean and had friendly staff, the room was comfortable and spacious, we stayed 2 nights with our little ones. They clean the room everyday and is located in a quiet area. I like the breakfeast nothing unusual waffles cereal, milk, juice, coffe, beagels, toast, bananas, apples. We had a pleasant stay would book again. Reasonable rates.

it is a place where i would stay again and again , everyone was very nice and it was more then i expected from the price....by a good time it was very quite ,not kids jumping on top stay ...and the breakfast was everything they say ...

I was very satisfied with the quality of the hotel at the price. We were attending an event in Monterey and did not want to pay Monterey prices. The drive was easy and the hotel was nice. Great bed too.

It was fine

After reading remarks about how bad the neighborhood is I was beginning to second guess my selection but glad I didn't. We were there for one night and it was just fine; no street walkers, no homeless just an occasional car driving up and down. Yes the windows are not the best so the noise from the Highway (yes, hwy 68 is right off the sidewalk) was not noticeable with the tv on and window closed. We were 2 doors down from the highway. Breakfast room was TINY so be ready for a crowd. Room could have been cleaned better; carpet, decor, linens looked fresh and new. Stayed on 3rd floor on east side.

Room was very small for two people to move around. Bed was very comfortable. TV very small.

Cable service didn't work in my room and the breakfast wasn't a full breakfast as advertised.

Room was decent, clean and fairly comfortable. However, parking was full both nights we stayed there and had to park across the street, which was pretty scary. I still can't explain why I paid more for this hotel than for a beach-side, 3.5 star hotel in Monterey! Who knew that Salinas was this expensive!

It was very comfortable. I just did not like that check in time was 3:00. When I initailly called Hotel.com. I was told it was 12:00 noon check in time. Because of this we were un able to attend a very special event that took place at 1:00. If check in time would have been 12. It was have been great.

we were so dissatisfied that we left and stayed the night elsewhere. after hours on the phone, we didn't even get our money back. horrendous.

We stayed here at this hotel with 2 small children and within only a few minutes my crawler had dark spot on hands and knees from the carpet floor which had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. The location of the hotel was on a busy street in a bad neighborhood, and the complimentary breakfast was really bad. I would not recommend this hotel to a family at all.

We were very pleased as the Hotel was near the 101 and easy to find. The area close to the hotel was not wonderful, but close and in walking distance to excellent restaurants. It is by an interesting part of Salinas. After booking I read a critical and unfair comment about the HOTEL. So we were pleasantly surprised when we found our lovely large clean room, with new coffee equipment and all you need.THANK YOU.

The neighborhood was questionable but the hotel seemed to border decent areas and shady ones. The room was clean and quiet and the front desk attendant was also professionally dressed and friendly. Overall I would stay there again any time.

From the pictures of the room it seems much bigger but it's not. The room had a funny smell to it as well as being extra small. For the price you pay you could go to motel 8 and it would be better. Very unhappy with my stay here. Also the toilet and the sink kept getting cloged to where we kept having to wait to go to the bathroom and or wash your hands.This place sucked! !

Recent night at Howard Johnsons/Salinas. Two rooms for one night & both rooms had problems with door keys upon initial entrance + rooms were ice cold as heaters are off (to conserve energy?). Took over two hours to make room temperature comfortable. Desk staff intimated that we caused problems with room keys (walked to room & inserted keys - our problem?). Stayed here twice previously but has gone dramatically downhill during last year - never again.

This is a good low- to -moderate cost hotel that is located near some "iffy" neighborhoods in Salinas. This was not a problem however. The room was comfortable and well appointed but someone had dumped the contents of a pencil sharpener in the sink. The management immediately had that cleaned up and the room was fine. The room was quiet but the heater is not connected to an automatic thermostat and has to be manually adjusted. Over all... a good value.

Do not stay here! Hotel has many Hookers in, and out on the 1st floor. Nasty place to stay! Never again!
