The worse hotel ever. No queen size bed which they advertised. They advertised free cocktail, but hotel doesn't have a bar. Bathtub so filthy, we couldn`t even step it. AC is centralized and cannot be controlled individually. TV is 12 inches and so old, still uses vcr. Everything advertised was false.

New management has taken over and hopefully it gets better I wouldn't recommend until turn over process is complete am surprised this place is licensed.

We were looking for a room for one night prior to leaving for Key West. Thank goodness for the location right on Sobe, otherwise we would have considered sleeping in the car. For what we paid it was a wash.

NEVER AGAIN!! WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED THE ROOM WAS THE SIXE OF MY CLOSET WITH DOUBLE BEDS IN IT.. WE COULDNT EVEN WALK IN BETWEEN THEM.. WE REQUESTED A DIFFERENT ROOM BECAUSE THAT WAS NOT WHAT WAS DISPLAYED ON THE WEBSITE PICTURES.. AND WE ASKED HER ABOUT THE PICTURES AND SHE SAID THEY TOOK A PICTURE OF THEIR BEST ROOM THAT DOESNT MEAN THATS WHAT WE WERE GETTING.. SO SHE PUT US IN A DIFFERENT ROOM THAT WAS ALITTLE BIGGER BUT DISGUSTING AS WELL.. THE BATHROOM TUBES WERE GROSS!!!!!! I DIDNT EVEN WANT TO SHOWER IN IT I PUT A TOWEL DOWN TO STAND ON!!!! i WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO STAY HERE ITS DIGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hotel was disgusting. The bath tub was the most unsanitary unusable tub I have ever seen. The bedding made you uneasy in terms of resting since it appeared to be second or maybe even third hand and had stains beyond belief. Floors were unswept. Just nothing good to say at all. Rate was totally over priced.

The place is a dump on a great location. The lobby and service left ALOT to be desired. The staff was friendly but seemed overwhelmed. We were told the hotel was under new management. The AC and lights didn't work properly and blankets and comforters were old (meaning marks, holes..gross!) On our 2nd day we didn't get towels because they said they ran out so we had to wait until the afternoon when they'd have clean ones again. And the hotel was super noisy too- you can hear everything so we did not sleep as we kept getting woken up by drunk people in the hallways, coming back to their room, etc. Definitely not worth it for the price, would not stay here again.

This hotel has definitely seen better days. It would be more appropriately priced between $90-$100 a night. There were multiple areas of the hotel that were just filthy. Could they at least just run a vacuum on the stairs? Then you wouldn't get hit immediately with the stale funk of the place. The sheets seemed clean, but those ratty comforters from the 80s were definitely gross. I pulled it off the bed and had to remove long hairs from the sheets. At least the bathroom was somewhat updated.....super tiny, like you can't close the door without hitting your knees tiny...You might want to be sure you have a few extra towels in your luggage. There were only 2 in the bathroom. I over heard a staff member tell another guest, after the guest asked for another towel, "This is the last one". Really, in the whole hotel. Pretty sad........ I hope it can recover. The location is awesome. Directly on the beach, but north of all the SO. Beach noise and crazyiness. Will most likely not stay there again.

Nice location....hotel should be refurbished....

Location is excellent but the room was not very inviting. Floor was dirty and it looks like the cover sheets are not being washed for days. The AC is blasting that I was freezing cold. The thermostat in the room never worked. I complained and they said the AC is centrally controlled. Will never stay here again.

This could very well be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

The hotel was horrible... TV was not working, The mattress was most likely 20 years old... sheets gross,,, no towels,,, noiseI

It was not a pleasant experience to say the least. Left early as we could not take staying here another night, broken toilet, worn bedding etc. the bathroom was falling apart literally! Please choose another hotel!

Great location for the beach, but a bit of a walk from Lincoln Road Mall. Apart from the location and a reasonable price, this place is a total dump. The rooms are disgusting and totally unmaintained. The sheets and towels are covered with suspicious stains, and they don't even change them when they "clean" your room. Also, there is really no functioning air conditioning. When we asked about the sheets being dirty, the guy at the front desk said, and I quote, "dirty, no. But stains ... maybe" with an attitude I can only describe as very "cavalier". I would avoid this place if you can.

This hotel was very convenient to stay at since I was going to the South Beach Food and Wind Fest. The hotel is not fancy.. rooms moderate in decor, but comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if the price is right. This year it was very reasonable. One free drink per guest was a nice perk..

My staff stayed here and had a very bad experience. Front desk wouldnt give blankets, didnt clean rooms, cavalier staff gave horrible customer service. Good location for the food & wine festival but for the same price I will put them up at the hotel Eva next year with great service, clean and updated rooms and great location. Will not recommend.

The hotel is super run down, but if you need a cheap place to stay so you can have tons of fun in south beach then this is it. The place is clean, it's just super old and in need of a face lift.

All the hotels in South Beach are old and the rooms are small, but comparatively, this was as good as others we have stayed at. It was a good value for the cost.

First off, even though I was pre-paid on Hotels.com, they took both my ID and my Credit Card and made a copy of both of them, which I find distasteful. There is never a reason to copy anyone's credit card, it just leads to possible identity theft (especially when a copy of the person's drivers license is on it as well!!!). Why they require a deposit when the room is pre-paid is beyond me, there is absolutely nothing to steal in the rooms. They advertise that all rooms have CD players, alarm clocks, and refrigerators - none of this is true! There are no alarm clocks, CD players, or refrigerators in any rooms according to other guests staying there, and there were certainly none of these things in my room. I left my travel alarm clock at home thinking that there would be an alarm clock in the room, and to top things off, I NEVER received the Wake Up Calls that I ordered. As such, I had to buy another travel alarm clock so that I would not miss my very early morning flight home. I detest when hotels advertise amenities that they don't have, as it makes pre-trip planning problematic. Because there are loads of other hotels in this area for around the very same price range, I can not recommend this hotel, for the reasons cited above, as well as the fact that the rooms need some serious updating and a major scrubbing, and the place stunk of marijuana the entire stay.

The only reason to stay at this hotel is for the location. Old and dirty rooms that I just did not feel comfortable in.

I have stayed extensively throughout the Miami and would say this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The most unfriendly staff, disgustingly dirty room, AC broken,Dirty bathroom , Uncleaned linen , Disgusting rooms i would not stay here even for free. nothing good there . Yong man at check in was nice and friendly but could only offer another dirty disgusting room . SICK i wish they can be removed from this site.

I was only there for 2 nights so I figured I'd try it out. BIG MISTAKE. When i arrived to check in the guy behind the counter said hello and walked away. He came back FIFTEEN minutes later and took nearly a half hour to check me in. He then explained that my room door was broken and that I would have to use a house key. (not that big a of a deal) When I got in the room I noticed right away that the walls were paper thin and that the woman hacking a lung sounded like she was right in my face. I turned the TV on so I didnt have to listen to hear and she pounded on the adjoining door to turn the TV down. (3pm) The next morning, i requested some towels since the only gave me ONE. Never happened even after 2 requests. Arriving back to the room later that night to a room that was never cleaned and still no towels. The beds must be 40 years old and unpleasant to sleep on. Look elsewhere before staying here. There is more comfort on the beach!

We were suppose to have a suite facing the water, but when we arrived they said our reservation was for a regular King room. There were three of us, which means we needed a roll away bed for one of us. They wanted to charge us $35 extra for the bed, even though we already paid for a suite. The room was really old and dirty. There was the in the bed, the bedspread matched the curtains and appeared to be from the 70's. We tore all of the blankets off the bed and only used the sheets. The staff was rude. The location was great though, and if you stuck your head out of the window to the far left, you could see the beach.

The young girl that finally waited on us at check-in was disinterested in assisting us and refused to let us check-in early, even though I had pre-arranged it. I waited over 30 mins to get checked in due a person that seems to live there was griping over something and my LARGE group had to stand in the tiny front room packed with too much furniture + bar + aquarium + workers standing around + all our luggage until we could get service. After refusing us the ability to check-in, we were finally offered a room that we could carefully squeeze around to in order to store our luggage (not easy considering we had 3 handicapped individuals). As we began the ridiculous effort, we were finally told "oh yeah, you can check into your rooms". The beds were comfy, the rooms very bare and narrow, bathrooms a bit gross; rooms reeked of tobacco and other odors. The young man that checked us out on Saturday, however, was very pleasant, had manners, and offered to assist us with our transportation to our next adventure. The hotel is convenient being right across from the ocean and near a fun Starbucks on the beach. I was able to get several rooms at a great rate for the area but the hotel doesn't offer shuttle service so it still cost a fortune to get to our next destination only 15 mins down the road. We likely will never return to Cavalier but if they offer a super good deal and we can't find anything better, we'd consider them.

terrible rooms

Location is the key here. Right on the beach on the beautiful Art Deco strip. The attached restaurant and bar made it easy for breakfast or before dinner apps and drink. The food is Passable but not the place for a fancy dinner. I was there on business and knew I would be at the hotel for sleeping only. For that it was fine. If you want to lounge in luxury...this is not the place. But for convenience and cost a good deal. No regrets and I would go back.

I chose this hotel because of it's excellent location. I also assumed that all the hotels on Ocean Drive would be very nice and clean. I was wrong. Upon checking in, I noticed immediately that the carpeting in the hallway was worn and dirty. Upon entering my room, I thought that I had been transported to a 1950's movie set. The paint on the walls was old and dull, the curtains and bedspread looked 30 years old. However, the worst part was that there were stains in the bedspread, the bathroom was not at all modern, with the bathtub chipped in some areas, and the floor was not that clean. To top it off, the rooms don't have phones so my messages were given to me by the hotel staff, where English is obviously not their first language! I did have breakfast at the hotel, the french toast was almost the best I have ever tasted, though the tap water tasted funny so I didn't finish drinking it. Don't booke this hotel, spend more money and stay at somewhere nicer.

I have travelled extensively throughout the world and would say this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The most unfriendly staff, disgustingly dirty room, AC broken, toilet leaked, not hot water in the shower, mould . Breakfast was genuinely inedible. I am truly amazed how bad this place is.... More they did not clean my room on the entire stay, when asked the front desk person they told me to complain to hotels.com and that the maid would not come back until monday!. the bathroom door would not close, the staff was too oblivious and inexperienced. i could put up with the fact that is an outdated place but the service is non existent.

The place is a decent hotel in the middle of all the action. Can't beat the bargain!

The hotel staff is AMAZING. They go above and beyond the call of duty. It is directly across from the beach and close to good clubs and restaurants. The rooms are a little out dated but clean and functional. I would most definitely stay there each time I return to Miami.

It was very misleading from the pictures on the internet and will not be staying there again

This hotel does not deserve a 2.5 stars. Maximum 1.5. Everything is old. TV, bed, doors, etc.....

Overall, my stay was excellent! The hotel staff were pleasant and highly accommodating. Next time I go back to Miami, I will be booking my reservations at Hotel Astor.

The stay was ok. The staff was really friendly (especially the dining staff) and the food they served was prettty good.

Hotel Takeover is needed for this hotel. Room service never came to clean room and distribute new bath clothes/ towels. When ask for bath clothes/ towels they did not have any clean. There was no ice tray. Sink fill with water while running. Shower was too small. No unit to control the air. Skirt of the bed dirty. Floors was dirty.(Like never mopped) Hotel Takeover is needed!!!!!!! ASAP!!!!!

The hotel isnt the nicest but if your looking for a clean place to stay with great location this is the place! Recommend for the average person not looking for a super fancy place but somwhere to sleep right on south beach.

My stay was great. The hotel is in the perfect location right off the beach and walkin distance to shops and clubs. Really enjoyed the surroundings. The hotel, itself, is outdated and some of the staff isn't all that nice but that didn't stop us from having a good time!

I walked into my room and immediately called another hotel to book a room for the night. The bedspread has cigarette burns and multiple stains. The room smelled of mildew and smoke and the floor was filthy. This was the dirtiest room I've ever set foot in and I wouldn't have put any part of my body on anything in that place.

It's a shame the quality of the hotel does not match the excellent location of the area. The rooms are very outdated and so is the elevator. The carpeting on the stairwell looks like it has never been vaccumed. My room had tiny bugs, luckily not bed bugs. My room never cooled and the ceiling fan barely worked. I didn't want to lay on the bed comforter and the bedroom linens were dingy. The food was over priced and not good. I found a hair in my salad. The ironing bored was all ripped and the iron, I didn't dare to use it. The towels were mismatched. The hangers were store hangers that guests left behind. I bathed with my flip flops and I never walked barefoot in my room. The hotel staff are friendly. The Cavalier needs major upgrading: the beds, linens, cooling system. . . . The hotel is across the beach which was the best part of the hotel. Its also located within walking distance to Collins Ave. where I was able to do some great shopping. You have to pay $100.00 which is refunded at the conclusion of your stay. I knew it was done for incidentials but the folks checking in a head of me flipped when the front desk asked for the deposit.
