Hotel Locanda Ovidius - ונציה

The hotel's condition was a little bit worse than I was expecting for the ratings I had seen and the price of the hotel. But everything is more expensive in Venice, and more expensive to keep up, so I can't say it was terribly surprising. The location was great, just down the canal from the Rialto bridge. Very close to the Rialto market. The wi-fi was a pretty big rip-off. We had to pay 5 Euro for a wi-fi password that only worked in the common areas. So we paid 5 Euro to use wi-fi when there is a computer available anyway. The wi-fi showed up on devices in our room, but the connection was so slow I just used my 3G on my phone.

Poor service, the room are filthy, small and you get the sense of dirtiness !! Not a good place to stay overall !!

I've stayed in some really wonderful places in many parts of the US and Europe , New York, Barcelona, Niemes, Split, and Cancun to name a few. This place will stay in mind as one of my favorites! It was charming, the location was fantastic overlooking the grand canal and close to Rialto bridge, the staff was friendly and helpful, and service was excellent. We drove to venice and the hotel staff was kind of enough to walk us through the best place to park in terms of cost and how to access the city from the parking garage. ( a bit of a challenge as things are not marked the way they are in the USA and I don't speak Italian)

Very centrally located. View of the Rialto bridge from the hotel. Free breakfast was good but with few options. Rooms were comfortable. Very helpful staff but they charged me 5 euros for wifi. But I will help you save 5 euros for a gilato. The password is - hotelovidius

Friendly staff. Tired furnishings but good location.

We took the cheapest room and it was the cheapest of any of the hotels I could find. As expected, the room was tiny but had the amenities including a tv. Everything worked. The best part was the location only a few steps from the main canal. I would recommend this hotel based on the value.

Hotel was clean, had everything we needed, staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was central which was perfect for us.

This hotel had the best views on the Grand canal from the terraces. The rooms were descent. The only downside was that it was a hike from the train station We walked - bad idea (take a water bus it's only 2 stops). The Hotel was great, GREAT location - close to the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Sq.

Enjoyed a lovely room overlooking the Rialto area of the Grand Canal in all its moods by day and night, from utmost commotion and color to sheer serenity.

Second time at this hotel. Perfect location within 15 minutes walking to most areas in Venice. A little noisy at times. Old Venice charm.

Overall a good stay. Breakfast was included and was acceptable. Best part of hotel was Balcony area overlooking the grand canal in the common area. Hotel could use some sprucing up (repainting rooms, carpets).

Our stay was great; close to everything, breakfast is very basic: cereal, yogurt and prepackaged cornettos

The location of this hotel was very conveniently located almost next to the Rialto Bridge where it was very easy to access vaporetto's (water bus), water taxis, gondolas, restaurants, and shopping. The room (triple) was quite tight with a cot squeezed in for my son but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Although the room had no view, the hotel did have a nice little balcony overlooking the Grand Canal and the Rialto where we could relax with a glass of wine and watch the world go by at night. The only thing that was a little awkward was that we were required to return the room key (no scan cards) to the front desk everytime we left the hotel and pick it up when we returned. There was always someone very nice at the front desk 24/7 so it became a non-issue.

Very disappointing! Our room was VERY DIRTY, stained carpet, chipped paint, light fixtures were bent and falling off the walls. The toilet seat was not fastened well and moved whenever anyone sat on it. Mold and water marks on the ceiling. We asked for a water view and got a view of a dark alley. The lift was not working and had to lug our luggage up three flights of stairs. Stairway and reception was dark and dingy. I felt like crying. On a more positive note, it was in a great location and the views from the breakfast room and sitting room were outstanding of the Grand Canal. Hotel did not have a map of the area, and most services including wifi was extra. This could be a fabulous hotel, if they would clean the place up.

Love the location. This was our second stay here. First time we accidentally picked this hotel. Second time we KNEW this was where we wanted to be. Staff friendly great breakfast. Hopefully there will be a third stay!Beds are a little too firm, but this is a minor detail since we were worn out sightseeing.

I did not stay at this hotel - I booked it for my daughter who is backpacking around Europe this summer and staying at hostels. I wanted to surprise her when she got to Venice give her place to stay in the center of action with a feeling of safety and comfort. She emailed me it was perfect! She was beyond delighted with where it was, how nice it was and how much she enjoyed her stay. It was a true treat!

This hotel is Venice. It was quaint, very well maintained, our room looked very newly renovated. Breakfast was a little weak, but the location and the room itself were very pleasing. Staff was exceptionally friendly and accomodating.

Hotel advantages are it's location to the Grand Canal in Venice ... and it includes breakfast. The room was not great ... small, no working air condition. The safe was too small. The beds were ok, but not great. But was always clean. Not much interaction with the staff.

The Hotel is in a fantastic location. Thats where the positives end though. Considering the price it would be one of the worst hotels I`ve seen. Old box TV, old uncomfortable bed, patched up walls, shower door fell off, shower head fell off, unhelpful staff, ordinary breakfast, very noisy. Wouldn`t stay there again and hard to recommend. Very disappointing but will provide a few laughs when we think back in a few years time.

We stayed at this hotel for its central location. We were able to quickly get to the hotel via waterbus and as an added bonus saw the Rialto bridge just steps away. The staff was friendly and wifi worked well for the reasonable one time charge. We stayed in room 103 which was a bit rough. The tile was in need of repair and regrouting, the shower small and hot water came only if you beat the other guests. The room was cold and we required extra blankets which they happily provided. The bed was not comfortable as the springs were clearly felt. However the location can't be beat, staff was more than accommodating, and the room had all the essentials. If you are willing to forgo some comfort for an unbeatable location this is a good bet.

The rooms were super small, and it's very hard to locate. Breakfast was crappy. To get here from the train station you take water bus #1 going left (not right) and get on the S.silverstrone something stop, than you walk thru the tiny streets to the hotel.

In my experience having to deal with the staff overshadowed the entire trip to Venice.

Excellent location, reasonable price

The hotel is just ok really, the location is the main plus point. Its nice that its a small more independent hotel not a chain, but i really felt that for the price, it should offer more all round. The room was fine! Although supposed to be a double superior so i wouldnt like to see a normal double. The buffet was a bit poor, but you are near a lot of cafes and bars, not on the water front, but some great ones around near the fish market. Its tricky as i expect that all hotels in venice are overpriced, and due to the nature of my work i am lucky enough to stay in alot of hotels in different couontries, which is why i expected more i think. Ultimately although there was nothing fundamentally wrong and the location is great, i wouldnt stay there again.

The hotel is right on the Grand Canal and less than a 100 yars from the Rialto bridge. The view from the cafeteria is very good. I noticed that I could hear everything from outside my room window, but fortunately, it was very quiet the night we were there.

PRICE WAS NOT CHEAP, HOSPITALITY WAS NOT THAT GREAT, CLEARNESS WAS NOT THE BEST, BUT THE LOCATION CAN COVER THESE BECAUSE IT'S NEXT TO RIALTO AND AIRPORT BOART STOP. YOU CAN ALSO BE GETTING GREAT VIEW IF YOU PAY MORE.

Loved the location which is one of the closest to Rialto. Hotel staff was very friendly. Nice decoration. Breakfast room has a beautiful view to the Rialto bridge. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

A location to die for.Magnificent views of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge. Rooms quite small and simply furnished.

Unfortunately, there was a foul odor in the elevator on the first day, and then the second day it was worse by the third day the plumbers were here and ripped up the lobby floor which is very small. The whole hotel smelled awful. It was taken care by the evening but made our afternoon a bit uncomfortable after a long day of sight seeing.

Great location within 100 meters of the Rialto Bridge. Its not a five star but for there was value for the money. Unless you're willing on spending $1,200/night you are not going to get luxury. The room was comfortable and clean overlooking the Grand Canal. The staff were friendly and courteous.

The hotel is located in an unique spot with a priceless view and the service was fantastic. I will certanlly recomend the Hotel to anyone that planes to go to Venice

This was a nice hotel in a great location. Yes, Venice is expensive - however for the price we paid for this hotel, it would have been much nicer if the bathroom was more usable. There was no water pressure in the shower, which is a good thing because there was no shower curtain or even the half glass that you sometimes see in a European hotel. The staff was nice and friendly but not overlly helpful. However, they did let us check in a few hours before posted check-in time.

Breakfast was less than mediocre. Internet access was inexpensive. 5 EUR for the entire stay. My room overlooked the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge so that was neat. Had to pay extra for a "Tourist Tax" and a rollaway bed when I got there which I was not expecting. I'm still peeved about that.

We were greeted warmly upon check-in and given wonderful directions for quickly meeting up with friends. Breakfast was decisious and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family/friends.

The Hotel is located very close to the Rialto Bridge and has a first floor lounge with a small balcony overlooking the Grand Canal. Staying at the Hotel captures the atmoshere of Venice and sitting on the balcony at night watching the water traffic is magical. The staff are very friendly and helpful. When we were there the Hotel was undertaking some building renovations but this did not disturb us. We didn't expect to be so close to the Grand Canal for he money we paid for the Hotel.

the hotel is located next to one of the bridges over the canal , this make it easy to cross it and walk around the center of Venice. the room that we got for 250 US was the smallest one we stayed in while visiting Italy. however the room was very clean the breakfast was also very limited and from the cheapest non fresh products. they charge you if you want a Cappuccino or espresso .

I was extremely surprised about the easy of locating this hotel .Vaporetto stop San Silvestro is the closest to the hotel though Rialto was as close but a battle over the Rialto Bridge which was packed all hours of the day in August. The hotel was minutes from Rialto Bridge and on the Grand Canal. I could not have ask for a better position. The staff was very friendly and the room was serviced regularly if not daily. All in all I enjoyed my stay in this hotel.
