The Fairmont Empress - ויקטוריה

Room was just ok. The service lacked - had to wait in line but the young receptionist was very nice. did not seem like the front desk was very organized - five people out there with only one helping people. The showerhead hit my husband mid chest. The sofabed was from the 70's. I would not recommend especially for the cost of the room!!!

Very well run. I don't think I've ever been in a hotel where I have felt more comfortable. That being said, I think it's a fun place for grown-ups, but I suspect children might find the place boring.

While I was offered the option to pick a King Bed, I was told they didn't have any of them left and only had the option for 2 double beds.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was quite a walk away from the front doors, but we enjoyed the extra exercise. The hotel is definitely rich with history, but not as comfortable as some we've stayed in. The light switch to the bathroom is on the outside of the bathroom, and there was quite a lip in the threshold. Overall it was quiet and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the hotel's close proximity to shopping and food.

We had a great time in Victoria and at the Empress Hotel. We enjoyed High Tea one day and several meals in the Bengal Club, Its easy to walk up Government Street for other businesses and eating establishments

Went to a wedding which was held in Palm Court. (If I was planning a wedding, I would choose a room which didn't allow so much ambient noise from guests eating in open dining area next to it.) But otherwise, the staff was extremely good at making you feel pampered. That includes the in-room dining staff, very courteous and make you feel like a million bucks. The rooms are smaller (if you don't upgrade). The wedding suite (Bob Hope room on 3rd floor) was very spacious and roomy, but you pay for it. Overall, didn't like the food options in the restaurants, so we ate in the surrounding area. MUCH cheaper and fantastic places all within walking distance (my walking distance encompasses up to 10 or so blocks away). Liquor store nearby as well if you didn't hit up Duty Free on the way into Canada for US residents like me... :)

I read quite a few negative reviews about the Empress before staying, and I have to say that I disagree with every single one of them. The building is in excellent condition in all of the areas that I saw, maintaining the original charm of the building without compromising the level of comfort & convenience that we expect nowadays.We were in Victoria for three nights in total, with the first two nights at the Grand Pacific Hotel. The Grand Pacific could not accommodate us for the last night, so we booked the Empress instead. How we wish we had booked the Empress for all three nights, far more comfortable. We will adopt the Empress as our regular hotel in Victoria.

the bath room was very small for such a room and of course for three people.The bath room amenity did not keep up for a good 4* hotel. i.e only soaps and shampoo no slippers or other amenities.

Great location and atmosphere, BUT rooms are small and in need of updating. As usual, the checkin staff tries their best to talk you into upgrading your room at significant cost, even though it becomes obvious during your stay that they are lightly booked. This hotel is just not good value for money unless you want to say that you have stayed at the Empress. The afternoon tea is a great experience. Typical old famous hotel where everyone has a plan to get in your pocket for some kind of gratuity or ridiculous internet charge.

While the exterior and tea room is lovely, the hotel room that we stayed in desperately needed upgrading. The bathroom grout was stained black in spots, the bath tub was stained, the lamp shade next to the bed had holes in it, and the furniture needed a good cleaning. We paid extra for an upgraded room, which equated to a view of a brick wall. The bright spot was the housekeeping staff who were pleasant and welcoming. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you stay in a suite.

Our dream was to enter the painting of The Empress we have hanging on the wall of our home in Queensland - Australia. Like many dreams, the scene is idyllic. However, our dream became reality and our stay was one of the most enjoyable experiences we have lived. The courtesy of the staff, the ambiance of the hotel and the quality of the food was beyond reproach. We will always remember our visit and perhaps one day, we may have the opportunity of visiting our dream again.

The room was a good size the bathroom was very small the front desk only had one person on for checkout of 6-8 people. Could have used another clerk parking very expensive -$30.00

Everyone must visit Victoria and spend the night at The Empress at least once in their lives. Victoria is a walkable city and The Empress is incredible and central to all the sites in Victoria. It was a short walk from the Victoria Clipper ferry we took from Seattle. Of course, you must have Tea at the Empress. In the winter you don't really need reservations but you will during the rest of the year. Only thing I don't like about The Empress and other high end hotels is having to pay for wireless internet. Victoria is not a very wireless friendly city. It was difficult to get a good signal in many parts of the city.

Confortable

Old building barely held together in some places, bathrooms need a lot of work, bed was very good. all in all the experience of staying here alone is worth the inconveniences.

Everything about the Empress is wonderful. The location, the services, the food and drinks. The rooms were fairly standard in size, but very charming. Thin walls, so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

A top class hotel but did not provide free wi-fi and parking, mattress too soft & too small for 2 persons, room was small too for a family of 4.

The Empress is a wonderful old "Grand Hotel" located beautifully on Victoria Harbor. Well-appointed and maintained, it showcases the grace of a bygone era yet has been tastefully updated. You can walk everywhere and visit the harbor, nearby parks, and a lively downtown that features an amazing array of shops and restaurants as well as museums and galleries.. At Christmas the harbor is dazzling with lights and the hotel lobby is abuzz with the public viewing the many decorated trees throughout -- very festive. Only drawback: exorbitant charge for wireless access. Should be complimentary for the price charged for a room. Parking is also very expensive.

Not the best value for money. History and location, although good, are not sufficient factors to warrant the price. Check-in staff seem not to like those who book through Hotels.com

Overall impressed , there was paint drips on the window and of you look under the bed there is a duct tape repair - never expected that from empress . Otherwise a pleasant stay and really interesting walking thru a hotel with such history

Really a lovely vintage hotel with fabulous service. We could not be happier we stayed there!

Great pool and locker room, excellent location, in the heart of everything.

Everything about our stay was exceptional. All of the staff were more than cheerful, helpful and courteous. Every staff member we met greeted us and offered us help with directions and even history of the venerable building we were staying in. Service and food in the Empress Dining Room were luxurious and personal. From the smiles and greetings at the door to the surprise of champagne and chocolate strawberries it made our 25th wedding anniversary a truly special and memorable experience. We appreciate the contribution the Fairmont Empress made to our wonderful stay in Victoria.

Loved Victoria,the hotel, and the staff especially Ramon the Bell Captain. So friendly, helpful, and professional. The Empress lived up to its legend. Our waitress at tea told us about Queen Elizabeth's visit. What fun! The artist Robert Amos who has a gallery there gave us great insight into water color painting and then we visited the James Joyce bistro where Mr. Amos had designed the unique tables. A most enjoyable stay at a memorable hotel.

We didn't get the king-size bed we had requested even though we arrived at the hotel early ion the morning before check-in.

We loved Victoria and the people. Everyone from the hotel staff to people on the street were very friendly and helpful. Your mayor even stopped us on the street and asked if we needed help.

Sorry I didn't book my first 2 nights at this Hotel. It's to bad the Fairmont doesn't take bookings using Airmiles would use them more often.

overprice and cramp the rooms

To spend a couple of days on the Fairmont Gold floor at the Empress is a holiday itself. The superior service, quality of the suite,amenities,and food in such a stately and beautiful hotel is a most pleasurable experience. I hope to have an occasion to return soon.

Recently returned from a stay in this fabulous hotel. Besides the beauty of the building and great location, we were impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The meals (morning only) were delicious and beautifully presented. The amenities in the room were very nice with real cups! The beds, bedding and pillows could not have been more comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
