Kenwood Hall - שפילד

I stayed in an Executive room with a patio door with its own patio looking towards a lake. Getting my heavy luggage from reception to the room was a big problem as there was no lift access to the area where my room was (and no porter service to help either). The room was large but very out-dated with an old-style TV, hardly any power sockets and no fridge (I had to get buckets of ice from the bar). For a room that is supposed to appeal to business users it badly needs updating. The bathroom was large but the shower (fixed to the wall) could have been far better. I cannot fault the food which is far better than you expect it to be. The wine prices are extremely expensive so best to get a drink from the bar first! The decor in the restaurant needs updating to make it suit the quality of the food. The "free wi-fi" advertised is very limited and that you really need to get a wi-fi access card from reception, though once you have it, it works. The reception staff were always excellent and individually all were good but there seems to be a lack of training and there wasn't that "can-do" service-with-a-smile attitude you expect from a four-star hotel, for example, the restaurant seemed under-staffed with waiting staff running the front desk of the restaurant and the bar as well as waiting tables. It's as if someone who runs hotels but doesn't stay in them thinks you can cut staffing costs by having waiting staff doing three jobs at once and still claim to be four star.

Excellent value, really nice hotel. 20 minute walk or short taxi ride from town centre (and cheap...£5 or £6). Nice staff too.

The room we were given was worn out and shabby (523 I think). The room needs redecorating and improving. It is filled with furniture that is of little use and just takes up space. The bathroom is large and bright but the shower, which is over the bath, is ancient and useless. The shower head can only be positioned directly over the bath taps. The window frames looked mouldy. The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and the locations is good but for an overnight stay there are other hotels at the same price that give a more comfortable and pleasurable experience. Front desk staff were not attentive on check out. The woman indicated she was counting something and that I was to wait until she had finished. I left my payment on the counter and left feeling very dissatisfied.

In general the hotel is very well presented, however the room we were allocated had certainly seen better days. This is a shame as from the outside the hotel and it's grounds are lovely. The staff however were extremely friendly and helpful.

Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. Was amazing to go relax in the pool after our journey very happy about having a swim really made our stay.room was huge with two tv and a extra tv room with sitting area. Breakfast too was above wonderful because of everyone being so frindly and ready to help. Thank you for making our stay really wonderful.

It's hard to believe that the beautiful rural setting of the Kenwood is actually so close to Sheffield City centre. Rooms were beautiful, service excellent, breakfast sumptuous.

The room was nicely furnished and the bed very comfortable.The 'public areas' we are clean and well maintained. We ate in the bar and the food is quite overpriced for what it was but due to the snow we didn't want to venture out! A few more Reception staff would be good as 3 couples arrived at once to check in and this caused us to be stood for 15 mins to get checked in. Will stay here again.

I have been staying at this hotel regularly over the last few years visiting family in the area. Usually the hotel is fine but this visit was dissapointing as it felt a little neglected. Walking into reception there was an unpleasant aroma which set the scene for the three days I was there. The room was OK but wasn't as clean as it usually is. I think I will be looking for a new place to stay.

The jacuzzi wasn't working, and the power went off in my room 5 mintues after arrrival, oh and the women next door tried her key in my lock. All part of the service! We were servicing an overhead crane in Sheffield and needed an hotel for the night. The power in the room was soon sorted and our crane engineers enjoyed their stay.

Very nice and comfortable stay. Arrived a couple of hours before check-in but very helpful staff checked if a room was ready and it was, so we were able to access room immediately. Very large room with everything we needed, so we were very pleased at this. Someone who had ordered room service left their dirty plates and glases outside the room in the morning and these were there several hours later and only taken away in the evening. The bar area looked very nice although we didn't use the facilities. Carpets that run through the hotel and a bit of the decor is slightly dated. We were looking forward to using the spa facilities but they weren't up to the standard we assumed. Shower looked a bit dirty and had a funny smell as did the steam room. Swimming area very nice though. Although pleased with our stay.

Great escape with lovely room

Overall excellent place to stay. We were unlucky the night we stayed as most of the restaurant staff were on leave resulting in very poor service long waiting times, poor communication and below standard food. They should have closed the restaurant r refunded money,needless to say all we received was the ' sorry about that sir' response. Will give them another chance though as most else was fine. Great location and nice room.

The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean and comfortable. However, rooms could have done with a make over. Rather tatty/dated. Lovely to have a swim in the poolt. The hotel feels very rural but is close to the city centre. Breakfast was ok - but not has good as the 'free' one I had in a cheaper hotel recently. Orange juice was very watery.

Everyone made us welcome including our puppy. Grounds are nice but could do with some investment.

Very comfortable, friendly hotel. Convenient for City and the Peak District. Good choice of food at the breakfast buffet which was fresh and hot.

Newly redecorated room - very good. Good breakfast. Not a lot of parking.

Still a very good hotel but rooms are looking more and more dated.

The hotel was very nice and the bed was the comfiest we've slept in with a Hotel stay. Unfortunately our stay wasn't long enough to use the Leisure facilities but we were impressed with them. We had a slight lake view and a friendly squirrel on the lawn in the morning. Can't fault the cleanliness of the room and communal areas. More car park spaces would be beneficial.

Booked a last minute stay at this hotel as it had a pool and sauna etc...The hotel was quite quiet as it was a weekend in January. The room was in the original part of the hotel and although it was a walk from reception we had a nice bay window and views out to the lake and swimming pool. We came to relax and get away from it and thats what it achieved. The fitness suite was well kept and just what the doctor ordered. I can not comment on the local area as we did not use any local facilities.

We booked a late Saturday night getaway. Good price for b&b. good service, pleasant well cared for hotel. We stayed in old part of hotel, a long walk from reception. It which had some wonderful period features in the communal parts. Enormous double room, almost a suite. Very clean room. Very creaky floorboards - we were glad there was no hotel room beneath us! A pleasant good value stay overall.

Our second stay in six months. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable.The reception staff were most helpful with our queries about bus and taxi services. You would not think you were in a city with lawns, lake and footpath throuth the tree-lined grounds. Good gym and pool.

The hotel has spent a lot of time & money to create a good first impression. It looks great - bright, clean, spacious, lots of parking, lovely views of the grounds, and the added bonus of a spa to chill out in. However, our stay was disappointing. Our room (420) was chilly, there was black mould on the bathroom ceiling, and badly flaking paint. The extractor fan didn't work. There were part-used toiletries, without lids, left in the shower area from the previous occupants. We went out for the evening, and when we returned we found a leak above the bedroom window. The curtains were very wet, and the water was dripping onto the carpet. The management arrived, looked, then commented "That's a new one". The window outside the bedroom was also leaking badly; we were told "It's not so bad if it's only the coridor." They quickly found us another room, but it was a late night, after packing, unpacking and settling in. The new room also had partially used toiletries in the bathroom. Other things worth knowing include the spa area - not very well monitored, several of the lockers won't lock. The spa is reached down a flight of steps from the changing rooms, or there is a small lift for the disabled. The floors weren't very clean, especially in the sauna. Maybe we were unfortunate - We've been assured by management that our experience was not typical, and we've been invited to return, but I'm not sure whether we will.

Executive room needed complete refubishment.Cracked and chipped enamel in sink.Windows dripping with condensation and a power cut which lasted for half an hour. Staff unable to find fuse box and no apology. We were left in total blackness.Wifi is very slow and you have to reconnect every half hour. Breakfast luke warm and inedible. General service levels poor and do not understand how this hotel has 4 star rating.

Loved my stay the only thing that was disappointing is that the fan in the bathroom was very noisy and clearly needed to be serviced. Other than that i would definitely stay there again and all the staff were very pleaseant and welcoming

This was a very nice hotel, the rooms were clean and well cared for, with clean bed linen and towels. The staff were also very pleasant. Nice gardens, although not many flowers at this time of year. Chesterfield and the Peak District are within comfortable driving distance. The high street nearby had shops and very nice restaurants.

Friendly and helpful staff and comfortable rooms. The hotel has a pleasant garden and ample car parking. Good selection of buffet breakfast. Unfortunately toilets in reception area were not clean.

The Hotel, whilst located near to the city centre with its shops, amenities, sights etc. is situated in a quiet secluded area, therefore detached from the hustle & bustle of the busy city (if preferred). Perfect for relaxing and "re-charging the battery". Onsite leisure facilities, gym, pool, sauna, steamroom enhance the relax and unwind possibilities.

pleasant location with good grounds close to centre of Sheffield ( 5 minutes in a taxi). Friendly and helful staff. Breakfast OK ( didn't have evening meals). Parking a bit limited but not too serious. Will stay here again and recommend to others.

The setting is great but the hotel and certainly the wing we stayed in was looking very tired, rooms 301 to 335 ish. Our room was very dark with a view of trees that were very overgrown. The windows were in desparate need of replacing. Aircon wasn't working and the bathroom had certainly seen better days, yellow stains under loo seat and a pvc coating peeling off in the washbasin. The carpets were threadbare on the passageways which could be a serious trip hazard. The breakfast was good but service very slow in filling up the hot food trays. The plates on the first morning were cold but were replaced when asked for. The grounds did have good potential but the paths around the lake were very overgrown and quite dangerous. Drinks were very expensive and when I asked for a glass of lager to be changed because it was flat I didn't get any appology or comment but he did replace the drink somewhat reluctantly. The pool area was quite good but a good clean around the edge of the pool was needed. On the stairs there was a cupboard with a big notice saying that hazardous substances were stored and that the door should be kept locked, unfortunately the mortice lock had been removed and the door left open. A bit of TLC and more attention to health and safety issues wouldn't go amiss

In the same week that we stayed at Kenwood Hall, we also stayed at two other hotels, one of them 3* and one of them 5*. Based on our experience of those hotels, and of other 4* hotels we have stayed in, we failed to see how Kenwood Hall could possibly have a rating as high as 4*. In the other hotels we stayed in that week, we were treated like guests. At Kenwood Hall, we were treated like clients. Rooms weren't up to a 4* standard, and ours was covered in cobwebs. We were in a ground floor room and the lock on the window was broken. The bathroom wasn't up to standard, with mismatched tiles and only shower gel and a bar of soap complimentary. The hotel grounds were very overgrown, with the walk around the lake almost impassable in places. The paths were poorly maintained and were quite hazardous. We were on a room only basis in all three hotels we stayed at, but purchased breakfast at the other two hotels. The 3* hotel had full English for £10, the 5* hotel with a Michelin star chef only charged £7.95, but Kenwood Hall wanted to charge us £14.95, so we didn't purchase breakfast. We did have lunch, a burger with salad and 6 hand cut chips for £12.95 and Eton Mess for £5. Both tasted nice, but were overpriced. If you simply need somewhere to sleep, this hotel is fine, but if you want a nice overall experience, this isn't the place to stay.

we booked this hotel for a romantic weekend away, the hotel photo's on the internet look amazing so we paid more than our budget expecting to get what we paid for. the hotel should not be advised as 4star, the carpets are tread bare in places esspecially the stairs with grip robs showing through. the room wasn't clean packets of sweets at the back of the bedside cabinet and sweets under the bed. we booked 2 rooms and one of the rooms had to be moved 3 times cos of problems in the rooms. no hot water in the shower, shower didnt work, no hairdryer. the reception staff should go on a customer service course as the second room we where given they had the keycard slammed on the counter saying"theres you key" not told what number where it was nothing. plus the brazil judo team were there making lots of noise at breakfast the milk jug had to go back cos it looked like it had weetabix dried inside the jug, i am highly dissapointed with the price i paid for this hotel as i felt it wasn't worth it

WiFi is free but you have to log on every 30 minutes and its a slow connection - Want resoable speed then pay - Why advertise Free WiFi?

We enjoyed our stay very much the Manager and Staff were very accommodating making our stay very comfortable and the gardens are superb.
