Great hotel, great service, ideal location

I have stayed here several times and always found it comfortable, convenient and well-priced. In the past I did not rely on wireless as I did this time for iPhone and iPad. The wireless connection, although free, was just terrible and kept cutting out constantly and unpredictably, no matter where in the hotel I used it -- room, bar, lobby, etc. The hotel staff are well aware of it and apologetic, but this did not help me. Since I use Skype a lot, and since this was a business trip, I regret that I will not be able to consider this nice hotel again unless/until they bring their wireless network upto a decent standard.

Loved it. The bed was wonderful everything was wonderful. Would go straight back again. Staff very good and helpful. Only thing forgot that in Germany people use the sauna naked so that took some getting use to. Lots of places to visit close by and places to eat but much quieter at night. Didnt eat in the hotel.

Great hotel in a fantastic location near to all the sights and shopping. Between the four of us in our party we had booked a single , double and a deluxe. All the rooms were spacious and immaculate. The best part was the decking next to the canal , lovely sitting outside in a city centre hotel and having a few drinks. Will definitley be back.

ultra modern and luxury with a twist of pure Romance! The pool is a must do at this hotel, very intimate and creative design.

We were in Hamburg for 4 days and found the hotel perfect for our needs. We enjoy city breaks and always prefer to stay in the centre of the action. The Sofitel offered quiet, modern and comfortable facilities, excellent service and food. We arrived from a cruise at 9.30 but were immediately and courteously taken to our room in spite of the early hour. Faultless customer service.

I have never been mistreated as badly in any respectable hotel. They just did not want to acknowledge my presence when I arrived to check in, and just kept doing their stuff at a leisurely pace while I was standing there, without even looking at me. Overall, the service was as if they were paying me money to stay with them. On top of everything, I could not find a towel in my room, only a robe.

My partner and I stayed at the Sofitel Alter Wall for three nights in June and had a fantastic stay. The room was modern and creatively designed, and incredibly comfortable. Great bed and great bathroom. The hotel staff were excellent and very helpful when we had questions. The location of the hotel is also second to none and perfectly positioned close to the main shopping area and tourist spots.

Planning on visiting Hamburg, great location, walking distance to many sites, with metro service one block away.

Our stay was a lengthy one, 10 days. The personnel were wonderful,very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was well equiped. The beds were incredible.soft but supportive and yielded a great nights sleep.The choice of seven different pillows was important. The coffee machine in the room did not work well. Breakfast was great, but the coffee was not up to Hamburg standards.

Brilliant location. Modern and comfortable in all expects. We will be back.

It was the best hotel I have stayed in Hamburg. Service, room, amenities, etc. You got everything here. And it is so close from the main area of business, shopping and dining! Though it is very expensive, if you get a chance to stay at a discounted price (which I got 50% off, thanks to a special promotion discount from Hotels.com), you must take the chance without hesitation!

The hotel is very well situated in the very upclass financial centre of the city and is a short 3-4 min walk form the main shopping centre; less to the closest underground train station. The entrance area of the hotel is well landscaped with a nice patio eating/siting area fronting the 2x classy hotel restaurants. The entire area is very well maintained, which is indicative of the hotel in general. A very pleasant aroma greets you as you enter the reception and the staff are very friendly and all speak a high standard of English. The rooms are first class with an excellent standard of furnishing and a very comfortable bed. The duvet on the king-size bed consisted of 2x smaller duvets, which did not really appeal to my partner, but did to me. There are several UK channels on the standard in-room TV and a comfortable sofa to watch from. We were asked what day in our stay did we want the complimentary picnic, which we knew nothing of prior to arriving. It was supplied in a traditional wicker picnic basket and like everything else in the hotel was first class. We had a standard room for 4x nights and I believe we did not select any special arrangement that included this. The hotel pool, gym and health suite is also very nice and is all fitted out to a very high standard. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and can advise it to anyone planning a social, or business trip to Hamburg.

I stayed here just for one night so decided to eat in the hotel restaurant which was apparently very good. After waiting 5 mins before anyone appeared to seat me I got a menu and picked my food. I only saw one waitress the whole time I was there. What arrived was nothing special and very standard! The service was awful. I even got asked if I wanted the desert while I was waiting for my main course as the waitress had forgotten I hadn't had my main. It wasn't busy as there was only one other table occupied. When I got home the next day I saw what looked like a bug bite on my shoulder and ankle. It was confirmed that these were from bed bugs!! Not good

This is an excellant Hotel. The location is close to the shops and resteraunts but also just an ideal bit away from the hustel and bustle. We stayed in a Superior Room, which I highly recommend, so comfortable and made our stay very relaxing. The staff in the Hotel from the reception to the Bar were great and accomodated our every request. The spa was also very good. Our only suggested areas for improvement would be, tea and coffee facilities to be provided in the room. We'll Definately be returning.

Booked the king -bed, but it was actually only 2 twin bed put together, not comfortable at all. No tea or coffer in the room; Lunch bread was cold,; bar was not cozy for winter staying. The sofa in the room was nice; Reception was friendly. Sauna with a resting room beside was really good --probably the best one in Hamburg.

Its a splendid hotel with nice facilities and placed very central in Hamburg. But we are not at all satisfied about the price for breakfast. 26 euros for each person is to much for coffee and bread.

Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Normally, I choose older hotels with more charm, but other than that, this hotel was perfect. Best staff, every room amenity you could ask for, very convenient location. I highly recommend it!

Without question, a hotel worthy of it's five star rating. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is perfect in the heart of the city.

I have been in Hamburg many times and stayed in many hotels there, but I have to admit that the Sofitel was one of the best business hotles I have stayed there so far. It is accessable, clean, stylish, nice SPA. Highly recommended

This is an excellent hotel on all counts - except for one major blind spot..... It is brilliantly located, bang in the centre, 2 mins from the Town Hall square, with a fabulously understated yet knowing modern style throughout (think savvy, comfortable elegance in greys and browns rather than tedious ultra-trendy gimmickry), with lovely, lavish breakfast (though pricey at 24 euros per person), gorgeous terrace by the canal for anything from a coffee to a proper meal with wine, and overall the comfort, thoughtfulness and generosity of a proper contemporary 5-star.... EXCEPT that the mattresses were an incomprehensible blast from a 60s English B&B past, sagging like a hammock and nigh impossible to sleep on except on one's back (if drunk and/or truly exhausted). After our first night we brought this bizarre, unacceptable oversight to the reception's attention, who, with Germanic coolness said they would address the issue, but we didn't notice any difference on the second night. The next day we left, so didn't pursue the matter further. I hope our room was an exception. I liked this hotel so much on all fronts I would like to return and give it a second chance.

Excellent location, very friendly staff, nice and clean rooms, perfect location. Only negative point: service at breakfast; after 15 minutes at our table we had to ask for coffee...

Super flot og lækkert hotel. Perfekt beliggenhed og kanon service

Generelt ikke noget at komme efter, har tidligere boet på SIDE, Marriot og Grand Elysee. Her er spafaciliteterne væsentlig bedre. Maden og service er vel det samme.

The hotel was very good and the breakfast buffee was excelent ( but expencive). We had asked our room to be at upper floors, but get our room at first floor facing to the street! They were not able to change the room, and didn't even try. As I reserved room I was promised 1 king size bed, but there were 2 separate beds!

Das Hotel liegt mit dem ÖV sehr gut erreichbar zentral von Hamburg an einer ruhigen Strasse (nur Bahn teils hörbar). Personal freundlich und hilfsbereit. Zimmer grosszügig mit wunderbar bequemen Betten. Einziges Manko war die Wassertemperatur im Spa. Definitiv zu kühl für ein Wellnessbad.

Vi tilbragte to nætter på hotellet og der er intet negativt at sige om det. Vi vil helt sikkert bo der igen hvis vi kommer til Hamborg. God service og dejlige rene værelser og centralt placeret.

Jättebra hotell, centralt beläget. Frukost kostar 29 euro vilket jag nästan tycker är löjligt.
