Monterey Surf Inn - מונטריי

Nice little Room, no problems. Staff was good . The beds were good no problems.

Not impressed by this small, old motel. Arrived at 9pm - so got last room available. Office locked so transaction was thru security window which seemed odd given the nice neighborhood & time of night. Room was nicely furnished, but way too small for 2 queen beds. Bathroom very small but shower OK. Sink open to room & within 3 feet of one bed. Windows did not have locks. Thin walls. No in-room coffee. "Breakfast" was a joke: coffee, juice & mini-muffins and no staff present. Will not stay there again. Better choice probably the Comfort Inn just up the street (same side).

It was cozy. There's a Vietnamese restaurant walking distance which very good and surprisingly cheap food. Also, visit Layercake. Very good pastries!

Pros: The rooms were updated, nice and clean, yet a little on the small side. Cons: I found the evening staff to be rude and unhelpful. Unfortunately we had a room that was close to the road, the walls are thin and you could hear most of the traffic as it drove by. The continental breakfast was minimal and less than desirable. They only offered two choices of cereal mini muffins. I hope your stay was better than ours.

The hotel was on a very busy road which made it hard to sleep. Our TV did not work. There was never anybody at the desk, and nobody answered the bell when I went to complain about it. The room reeked of a very strong cleaning solution when we arrived, and it was hard to ventilate to get rid of the smell.

PROS: Service was friendly and responsive (eg, we needed an extra sheet for our travel crib, and it was brought over within minutes). Room was clean. Sink/vanity and storage areas were spacious enough. CONS: Small room (we had to move our travel crib in order to get in/out of room or from one side of room to another. Toilet/tub bathroom was also small and door closed automatically, so it was difficult to maneuver with little kids. Our tub was missing a stopper, so we had to be creative at bathtime. Also, the threshold to the bathroom had some nail heads that were not flush, so I ripped a sock. Because our stay was only one night, we did not complain about these things - they may well have been addressed promptly if we had. Lighting was all overhead cans with CFL's - not great for one person to read while others were sleeping.

Suffice it to say that my kids were seriously bummed upon hearing the pool was closed for the season despite it being chilly. The room was pretty decent. One thing that was a bit off to me is the lighting. There's either not enough or way, way too much (like above the sink). But that was minor. The room was very clean and the bathroom had been redone fairly recently. The hotel isn't super close to Monterey activities but it is a short drive to everything. We would definitely come back again but will ask about the pool first.

My family and I stay here once a year. It's clean, affordable and close to most attractions. The rooms come with a refrigerator, the pillows are soft, the beds are cozy and the area is quiet. The breakfast offered in the morning is pretty small and you have to eat in your room, but there are enough restaurants nearby that you won't starve. Plus each room has a fridge to store leftovers. All in all its a good home base.

Served the purpose. Well located, clean room, and inexpensive.

This was a well appointed room for a modest cost that I would consider for a return visit

For price it wasn't too bad. BUT, the refrigerator was broken, only two towels, and the room was never cleaned during my 4 day stay. Room was clean upon arrival and the location was excellent for my needs. The price was great but I would have paid more for more amenities.

They gave us dirty towels and one day forgot to give us towels. When we went to ask for more they scouled at us. If you leave your clothes or anything on the floor for too long, they smell like cat urine. The showers are really small I could barely fit under them and I am not even 5 feet. The walls are extremely thin. The beds are nice, the ac and heat work really well and it looks really sweet and friendly on the outside

This motel is in a good location and the room is functional and comfortable, but nothing fancy. The bed was better than most motels, but the pillows were foam, not feathers.

You get what you pay for...First impression is bad because the office is dirty and smelly. The attendant is bothered by our questions and give us bogus information. Room 9 is dark and smells moldy. Room 25 has a window but the smoke alarm was beeping. Breakfast is cereal, tiny muffins, coffee and juice.Upon checkout the attendant couldn't stop her phone conversation to answer a question. Stay with a proven chain.

Outside looks run-down, but room updated, very clean. In-room jacuzzi @ $45. Too bad my girlfriend stayed home.

As we were in town for a convention, I DID NOT WANT TO SPEND but I wanted a place to sleep that was clean and close to downtown. This place TOTALLY fit the bill, friendly enough staff, fresh coffee in the morning and 2-3 minutes from the convention center. We the savongs, I spent a LOT on seafood on the wharf and had a great time!

We were in town for just one night and wanted something close to town and affordable. The Surf Inn was both and was nicer than I had expected considering the price.

For the money, it was a great option. Not a very luxurious room, but if you're just looking for a convenient place to crash, this was perfect.

it is good for a 1-night stay, good location and nice staff. But breakfast was far from enough.

Wonderful

Motel is in a perfect location. Front desk very helpful. Close to Del Monte Shopping Center, that was very festive on a cool November night with holiday cheer. Will stay at Monterey Surf Inn on my next visit to Monterey.

I like to self serve myself coffee in my room .There you have to walk to the lobby

I drove into Monterey without an idea of where I was going to stay so I got on hotel.com and found this place. I will admit at first I was nervous to see what I was getting but my room was amazing! Hardwood floors, a huge jacuzzi tub, it was well lit and it wa a little over a mile to the bay. I will likely stay there when I'm in Monterey again!

The owners were hospitable. The room left a bit more to be desired as it was quite dark. Also, it seemed that they spent money to put decent furniture and granite countertops in the room, but kept the brown polyester bedspreads. So all in all, it was convenient, but if you have to spend a lot of time in your room as opposed to just crashing, I would splurge a little extra. The room was clean, there were towels and soaps, and it was literally 5 minutes away from everything, so that's a positive. Oh but there were only / channels, 3 of which were sports, 2 of which were in spanish, and the rest news...so not really my thing. I wanted to watch a dumb movie and fall asleep but no such luck.

The staff was courteous and hepful when I wanted to shorten my stay from 3 days to 2 days.

Overall was good. There is no place to sit at breakfast. The weather was nice so we brought our food to the table that had by the pool. There is a table in each room so I think most people took there food and went to their rooms.No screen on bathroom window but room was clean.

We've staying in numerous hotels on Munras Avenue in Monterey. Most are similar... some better and some worse. Room had remodelled bathroom and newer flat-screen TV. Also had refrigerator and microwave. Staff was helpful and friendly. Only complaint is with the king-size bed. The mattress was too soft and after a couple of nights sleeping there my back hurt. No better on the the third night. With a better mattress I would change my overall rating to better than average.

Nice hotel, clean and updated room, nice bathroom and hot shower. Everything was clean and well maintained. The only issue we had was that the sound proofing from room to room was poor. You could hear your neighbors talking and hear the shower like it was yours. Not bad for the price and value.

It was a cute little place...the room was small but had two double beds and it was good for short stay. The room was clean but the bathroom can be upgraded

Older Motel. Complimentary breakfast consisted of cold cereal in the corner of the office. No place to sit. Room was very small. Thought it was very expensive for condition of motel. We stayed in much nicer Hotels on our trip for much less. It was ok because we didn't do anything more than sleep there.

The bathroom smelled like sewage so we kept door closed and it was a good thing we were only there 1 night. There were no other rooms to move to.

On road full of motels - this was a good choice; clean and comfortable. Walkable to Cannery Road but could get the shuttle from the Civic Centre garage if you wanted.

The hotel was dirty from top to bottom. Our room had a plywood ceiling with holes where water had dripped from the roof. The windows did not open, but good for us as our view was of dirt that was window high that led to the rear of the rooms of the Inn. There were bleach stains on the carpet and the wheels continually fell of the only chair in the room. The drapes in the breakfast area were filthy from dropped juice and coffee. The staff, however was friendly and tried to do their best to help out.

The room was fairly clean, unfortunately the leaking shower and toilet in room 1 were a huge turn off. It is conveniently located so that the aquarium is close, but carmel is only a fifteen minute drive. The hotel was not bad, just very average.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated like royalties. Great staff, great accommodations, perfect location to visit the area.

We were assigned room 5. My daughter inspected this room before we unloaded our suitcases. My daughter said don't go into this room because it smells like mold. My daughter went to your desk, and then were assigned room 7. It was okay, however the room did not have bedside reading lamps.

Not bad for being the last room in town. Courteous staff; small but clean room.
