Super 8 Ames - Ames

Crabby front desk person and a very tired building but that's what you get at Super, Is In Your Dreams8.

I try to stay away from the discount side of the motel/hotel world but on this trip I had no choice. We were in Ames for graduation and had tried to make reservations before Christmas. Alas there were only the most expensive hotels and cheapest motels with any vacancies. So... I went cheap, a big mistake. But to my defense all the prices were almost double because of it being graduation weekend and most of them had requirements of a 2 day stay. This motel was smelled like mildew and cigarettes. The carpets were so dirty that when I walked around in my white athletic socks for awhile it turned them black. I was disgusted. Needless to say I did not walk in the room barefooted. The shower was hot but the water pressure was so low it was very difficult to rinse off. The toilet would not stop running. The curtains would not close. The HVAC was either all the way on or off. The breakfast was gross. Stale, tasteless, and unappetizing. I will never stay in a bargain motel again.

This served my purpose.....clean room & pleasant service

paper thin walls mean you'll hear everything in the hallway and in the parking lot. Doors that need a good nudge to latch are an added bonus.

The 2 pillows in our room were flat as pancakes and when I asked for more they told me that they didn't have any extras. The bed was uncomfortable. The chair on the other hand was comfy and the bathroom was large which was nice but the shower head was to low and there were holes in the wall in the bathroom also. I will not stay there again

Room appeared clean until we pulled back the sheets and saw something smeared on the box springs. Sheets appeared clean but stained as well as towels. Loud pounding noise at 5 in the morning. Asked front desk and they said nothing even though police were there earlier because of the disturbance. Breakfast was scant but area was clean. Overall appearance was ok.

The service was very good. All Hotel personnel were very friendly and personable. I will stay again at this location

I would strongly urge you to NOT stay at this hotel. It is located in very close proximity to several other hotels that would be a much better choice. It is extremely outdated and the cleanliness of the room is sketchy at best. There are virtually no amenities at this hotel, but if you're in a bind and simply need a bed to sleep in--it will do the trick. I was on a pretty tight budget when I stayed there and booked the room through Hotels.com. Upon arrival, in spite of the fact that I had already paid Hotels.com via phone, I was charged AGAIN by the Super 8. I am STILL waiting for this to be remedied.

The hotel smelled of old cigerette smoke. The bed was so uncomfortable and only 2 pillows on the queen bed and they were as flat as a pancake. Would not recommend this hotel and will not plan to stay there again. Also no wifi. It is 2013 every hotel has wifi.

Room was warm, clean and neat. Heater was very loud even on low fan and there was some mold around the bottom of the tub surround caulking. Lower level hallway smelled of cigerette smoke probably from people smoking in the rear stairwell since I stayed in Feb.

The staff was friendly upon check in, the coffee was good, shower was clean. There were red spots on the floor , that may have been nail polish, or may have blood. Hard to tell. There was also a red spot on the underside of the bedspread...blood? Nail polish? Who knows. Other than that, it was fine.

Room was very warm for November... had window and fan on all night and was still cooking.Contiental breakfast was pretty sparse. I would say we got what we paid for.

I liked being able to park right below my window and go in the back door. I also loved being in the last room on the 2nd floor.

I would definitely recommend this hotel!!!! The room was very clean and roomy. Hotel staff was friendly. Location was good, right off Hwy 30 and I 35. I plan on using this hotel for future travel to Iowa.

It was mediocre across the board, minus the flat pillows.

Overall experience was not good. Rooms were below average in every way. I will be staying somewhere else next time I visit Ames.

There was a football team staying at the same time we were. They were up very early Saturday morning and were very loud!! i had requested a refrigerator and didn't get one. The was a burn mark on the blanket of our bed also. We won't be staying here again.

Smoke smelly room

Nothing really bad about the stay, but I paid a very low price and got an older, no frill hotel room. Had an old smell and feel, but nothing horrible. And it was cheap

We stayed here after getting our daughter settled into college life at ISU. The room felt old and dirty. The price was ok, but didn't really meet my expectations.

We arrived at 9 PM and still had to wait for our room, other guest up all night and very noisey. Not a good experience.

Easy to get to ISU campus. It says it was updated in 2011, but some areas still need work. Still comfortable and a decent place to stay.

First room smelled. We switched rooms. Too bad we didn't figure out it was the air conditioner pumping in the smell untill the morning when we where getting our bags together. The tiolet didn't flush well. I think we were the only people staying just the night. The others in the hotel had been "living" there for a while and very comfy there. They were very noisey.

I had 2 nights booked. Went there the first night and had to leave after 2 hours. The room was dirty, all the guests at the hotel were sketchy, had there laundry hanging outside on the fence. Bad, Bad, Bad, do not stay there, there are plenty of other nicer hotels in that area.

My wife and I enjoyed our three day stay. The room was clean and did not smell like some other hotel rooms. The refrigerator was a very pleasant surprise...as we had not expected that. For the price we paid for the room, it was an excellent decision to stay at this Super 8. (The location was perfect with respect to where our meeting and conferences were held.)

Cheap hotel in more ways than one, bottom line the room smelled like feet and smelly dog, and was poorly maintained, but you get what ya pay for and next time I will spend the money for a better hotel

I was quite comfortable staying there overnight. The room was rather small, with two chairs and a queen sized bed, but satisfactory for one person to comfortably spend the night in. It was also just down the street from a couple different places to eat, one of which was an Irish pub, which was quite pleasant to have a meal in. For the price, it was a descent stay.

Only fair. Beds were not comfortable. Probably will not stay at this Super 8 again.

The Ames Super 8 provides a comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price. It's not the Ritz but if you'd rather spend your money on tourist attractions, dining experiences and entertainment like we do, we love this place. Friendly, helpful staff. It's only 30 minutes to Des Moines. We stay here at least once a year. We enjoy its quiet atmosphere, comfortable beds and warm showers.

I would not stay at this hotel simply because of the experience. I think that the service was great and all but it was very disappointing when I woke up in the morning with red bumps all over my neck, my whole body, and hands. I got bitten by bed bugs and I wasn't really sure until I actually lifted the bed in the morning and I saw these bed bugs all over the bed and crawling everywhere. I had to throw out all of my clothes, my suit case, and everything that I had brought with me. Both my mother and boyfriend had to also throw everything out because the bed bugs were everywhere. My boyfriend went down to the office to get the manager on call to look at the bed bugs, the guy at the counter simply didn't bother to get up and come to the room, and said, " It's okay Mr. I believe you. I have no reason to argue with you. We'll go a head and reverse the charges. Sorry about this incident." Therefore, I would not recommend anyone this hotel. It's been about 3 weeks since this has happened and I'm very infected and I'm taking high dosage of antibiotic because I have a very infected finger and hand. I would not want this to happen to anyone else. One tip before checking in the hotel, Please people make sure that your hotel is a 5-star and be sure to check under all the bed before you unpack anything or put anything on the bed.

Good hotel room. Try to avoid the rooms by the staircase. Lots of noise coming from people going up and down. Requested the manager a different room and he gladly got me another one. He was a good Indian man.
