Hilton Waikoloa Village - Waikoloa

We really enjoyed staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village with our 20-month-old daughter. The enclosed, ocean-fed lagoon is a great place for a toddler to splash around (with supervision, of course) and snorkeling is fantastic with lots of different fish to see. In addition, my husband and I each ran into a Honu (sea turtle) at least once each time we snorkeled. Our daughter also enjoyed saying 'aloha'' to the exotic birds (macaws, cockatoos, and parrots) in the main lobby everyday.

Need more hot tubs ...and need a hot tub by the adult pool

Stayed in newly renovated lagoon tower which is definitely better side of the resort. Great pools, very nice rooms. Restaurants on site are only ok but expensive. Short drive to other very nice restaurants, you need a car here. Overall a good stay.

The Hilton Waikoloa village is ideal for a family, especially one with small children. The lagoon provides a wonderful environment for snorkeling in ocean water that is still safe and "managed" as part of the resort. The swimming pool on the Lagoon tower side is phenomenal, with waterfalls, a slide, and a massive pool including a sandy wading pool for smaller children. The overall attention to detail can feel a little contrived at times, but for a family with kids the peace of mind and endless fun in a safe environment makes it well worth it. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Very pretty hotel but so big and manicured it kind of feels like you're at disneyworld more than in hawaii. You can take a tram around the grounds or do a long walk. Such a long walk to get out of the hotel so its easier to eat at one of the hotels restaurants, but the food was very disappointing. A great feature of the hotel though is the hotel lagoon where you can snorkel and see great fish and sea turtles.

Great staff, cleanliness and beauty. Since large and much ground to cover, allow 20 minutes by walking, boat or train...would help to run more boats... Overall a must see, one of a kind hotel...snorkeling thr lagoon is better than a snorkeling charter... Prices for drinks and dinners high and parking if you rented a car far away... Great people and good restaurants... Enjoyed it but tired from all the walking.

Very huge hotel and nice. Sort of like a Disnelyland for resorts. Restaurants and drinks etc... are extremely expensive but amenities are pretty much unbeatable for a resort. It has to be the nicest hotel on the Big Island and this is coming from a sane person!

We found the front desk staff and concierge rude.

Enjoyed the resort very much. From our room we watched whales cavorting in the ocean. Plenty of fun activities to do. Great restaurants, especially the Kirin - serving Chinese Cuisine. My only gripe would be that their unique boat transport system is somewhat inconsistent. They were supposed to run from 2 to 10 but were frequently out of service when we wanted to ride them.

Stay was very comfortable and enjoyable

This is a beautiful destination resort - however, there were three issues for us: the resort is so large that it takes a long time to get back an forth to your room, it is very windy on this part of the island - made it not as conducive to sitting out or swimming - and it is almost an hour's drive away from the downtown Kona area.

Wonderful hotel. Certainly large and a pricey place to stay but totally worth it! The hotel has beautiful views of the ocean- a totally "worth it" up-grade in hotel rooms. Make sure you are prepared for the costs of Everything in this resort- dinner for 5 was $180, breakfast buffet was over $100 for family of five. afternoon drinks were $50 by the lagoon, and stand up paddle boarding was $50 for an hour. Even a garden view room, in addition to a great gold course view had a silver of ocean. Kids loved the breakfast buffet, water slides, and the macaws placed throughout the hotel. I loved the art and the long pathways to walk along the ocean and the many places to sit or enjoy nature. Best of all was the lagoon- feeds directly to the ocean and has fish, sea turtles, and even an eel that wandered in. Shallow water not more than 6 - 8 feet feet at the deepest part and a perfectly clear, perfect conditions for snorkeling and swimming with the fish. Ocean water waterfall incredible, and the sandy shoreline with plentiful reclining chairs and bar service means after paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming... You can be delivered something delicious to your parched lips. We didnt go, but they also have Swimming with dolphins on site- I walked by and watched for a while. Beautiful and intimate setting for interacting with nature. Best stay on the Big Island.

Very, very beautiful place. It could have been anywhere, however. Very sterile. Every single thing "included" at the resort actually had an extra and steep price. We spent twice as much for food, activities, and transportation as we would elsewhere.

It was GREAT

I would recommend this hotel for those truly looking for a resort. Otherwise you may feel trapped by the enormity of the place. They run special deals to try to get people to eat on site which can be helpful. As someone who wanted to do other things in the area, it was a challenge to plan ahead for the 20 plus minutes it took to walk from my room to my car (and I walk quickly). I guess this is to be expected at a 62,000 acre resort (that is what their materials said) but a bit challenging. Despite all that, I could not ind a pool towel at 9pm when the pool is open until 11pm and it took 15 minutes of hunting around with a poor staffer to find said towel. The resort fee of $25 does not really cover anything besides Internet access and they make you pay it. Another $17 for self parking on top of what is already a $200 plus room seems unwarranted. Also, at least if you stay in the Ocean Tower, the birds joyfully announce the sunrise- usually before 6am at least in February- and the rooms are not soundproofed.

After checking in, our luggage took almost an hour to be delivered to our room. When finally delivered, he noticed the deadbolt on our door had fallen off (it was on the ground outside the room)so we had no 2nd lock. There was a gap under the door and since the doors to all the rooms open directly to the outside, you can hear everything! We were woken up at 4am by about 1000 birds going crazy out in the courtyard. Other guests were complaining about this as well-it was ridiculous! The room was shabby and rundown; linen was clean and bed was nice, but we were unimpressed with everything. This continues to the restaurant service. We ate at an outdoor place by the dolphins and our waitress was horrible! Nobody came for over 20min, my husband finally went to the bar to ask for service. We ordered, then never saw our waitress again until the end. Someone else brought our food, we had to track down a different waitress for water, and finally after waiting for forever for the bill, our waitress came by with it, all smiley and chipper. Terrible service for so-so food. On the morning of our checkout we called for assistance with our luggage and were told someone would be there in 10min...after waiting 35 min (no joke!) we finally hauled it down ourselves, and happily checked out of this hotel. We've had previous experience with Hiltons, and most are decent, but we will never stay here again!

We stayed in the lagoon towers. Beautiful and so extremely clean very impressed! Our only disappointment was the quality of service at the resorts restaurants. Definitely would stay here again especially with the location of the shops a block away.

Everything was great except the nocturnal extremely loud birds that kept me up all night. This was in the ocean tower room 5010. Everything else was top notch except for those darn birds.

If you like water, shopping, adventure, beautiful surroundings, this is the place.

We were traveling with three families with an eleven-year-old, two three-year-olds, an 18-month old and an infant. Lagoon and child's beach area were great for the kids. Neither three-year-old was tall enough to ride slides (42") so were disappointed. Pool water was extremely cold! Grounds are not stroller friendly. The kids loved riding the tram and boat. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. Staff is friendly and accommodating with the exception of the Cantina. Bad food, slow service. Our tired children were going crazy waiting for two hours to get our food. And then it was served incorrectly! Unfortunately, the Japanese restaurant was closed both nights we were there so we ate off-site the second night. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. The golfers were disappointed with the course. Not well-kept. Will definitely go back.

I stayed two nights here in the palace tower, and enjoyed it. Lovely room, comfortable bed. Pool facilities very impressive. Good snorkelling at the manmade beach. The tram that runs through the hotel is over the top, and very slow. Not necessary for getting to pool etc, unless you have small kids. Snorkel rentals etc extortionate! Buy your own snorkel in Walmart! Dolphin feature seems unfair to the animals, but it seemed very popular. Parking is 15 dollars a day. Lovely staff. Free wifi in public areas and use of gym included in room price.

We only stayed one night, but the place is gorgeous and the staffers were very helpful. Waikoloa is a bit far from Kona town, but that was OK for us. Cons: maids coming by at 8:20 am wanting to clean the room?? Who wants maid service that early when on vacation?? Also, the monorail takes forever, so leave A LOT of extra time if you have a set time to be somewhere...

Hilton Waikaloa was just as remembered. Comfortable. Excellent spa. A destination on it's own.

Loved it, beauty everywhere!

It was pretty nice. The hotel has great environment. Wish I stayed more than one night to experience it to the fullest.

It was a nice and clean resort. But it's not close to anything you have to drive to get anywhere. The views and landscape of the hotel were amazing.

This was not my first trip to the hotel, and as usual it's beauty is unparalleled. The one thing I noticed this time that I've never noticed before was the long length of time it took to go from our room in the Ocean tower back to the lobby. It used to be that you could catch a train or a boat, now the boat only runs from 2pm to 10pm so we didn't get to ride the boat at all because of our busy schedule. The train we could catch pretty regularly, but then it would sit there for 5-10 minutes waiting to take off again. My only suggestion to Hilton would be to reinstate the boat hours to what they used to be and to nix that looooong wait with the monorail.

I thought that the hotel was great. Food was a little over priced, but overall had a wonderful stay.

Took us 20-25 min to get to our car from hotel room. There was a tram but was never there to pick you up, it was also quicker to walk. Pretty expensive to do anything on the property too.

I love this hotel! The decor and art, the water slides and lagoon, the tram and boats, the friendly staff and beautiful ocean views make this an amazing hotel. It reminds me of a tropical Disneyland (minus the huge lines for rides), and that's a good thing in my book, but it may not be everyone's cup of the tea. The only drawback is it's distance from Kona -- about a 40 minute drive.

Do NOT use the hotel shuttle service speedishuttle. The service is awful and they caused a lot of unnecessary stress on our way home. The hotel is magnificent, rooms are spacious and the grounds are wonderful. We love the tennis and went to the daily tennis clinic every day. The instructors were excellent and fun!

The hotel is huge. It truly is a "village". It has it's own transportation, a boat and train. Which is a good thing since it's so huge. It'll take you 15 minutes to walk from your room to the parking lot. This hotel is in it to nickle and dime you. Your room rate includes just that, the room. Parking is extra. They are stingy about small things like how many coffee pods you are allowed per day (2). There was a mini fridge, no microwave (which they would give me for a 1-time fee). In the rooms with 2 beds, the whole hotel only has full-size beds. The pools are what you come for, or maybe the dolphins, but the pools have slides. And there's the Lagoon beach that's pretty much the best. Easy (SUPER EASY) snorkeling with fish, eels and turtles. Rent a paddle boat if you have kids.

Beautiful hotel. A little far from the airport (and shuttle service was a little expensive-a little over $100 r/t) but still a great stay; and you really don't have to leave the hotel if you don't want to, which makes it a great place to stay if you just want to relax and vacation. Only other slight problem is that it is far from all the attractions. The attractions ( volcanoes, black sand beaches, etc) are generally on the other side of the island, a couple of hours away.

I love this hotel, eventhough they charge you for internet access in your room.. almost all of the hotels ive stayed at has free internet. You need to pay for parking too..Valet is kinda expensive! one thing i noticed though, they knew there were going to be 2 adults and 2 kids in the room and they only had 3 towels, ok no beach towels in the room too.. they forgot to have a do not disturb sign too.. the hotel is great great pools, breakfast buffet was ok. proce was ok. not a lot of choices really... anyway i love the tram. the pools the scenery... love love love

Enjoyed our stay tremendously. Only room for improvement would be to heat the 3-4 pools on the property.The water temperature was a bit on the cool side, probably not an issue if vacationing in the warmer summer months (we were there in early March) . Everything else was fantastic, best hotel on the Kohala coast.

Ok, really. Just pony up and stay here. This place is GORGEOUS. The grounds, the multiple pools, the slides, the waterfalls into the pool - where else can you snorkel in a protected lagoon with sea turtles and have lunch next to dolphins? The kids loved it - so much to do, outdoor checkers, boats and a little train that goes around. There is art everywhere and families and beautiful sunsets. There is a gorgeous beach right nearby with a free shuttle. The food at the cantina was good and not too spendy and the burgers at the Lagoon grill were actually juicy and good - not what we expected at a hotel! And the service was amazing. We had two problems - they were fixed without incident, within 1/2 hour, without any effort on our part (a fridge that did not work, the ice cream machine was down). I recommend getting the Ohana Fun Pass if you plan to do much around the place - it covers parking, ice cream daily, free access to the spa, 1/2 off kids programs, a free round of family golf per day, etc., for much less than those things would cost. I would definitely come here again. Yeah, the birds are loud, but you really can't hear them in your room and it is kind of funny. Yeah, the place is big but you don't really feel it - it isn't that hard to walk from one end to the other and the boats and train make it easy. Yeah, sometimes you have to wait for a boat or train - but shouldn't you be relaxing and just kicking back anyway, so what's the rush? Most times we got a train or boat within 5 minutes. Yeah, it is a little bit away from stuff, like the volcanos and etc, but you can make the drive in a day and the volcanos are not really flowing anyway. Yeah, the coffee bars are expensive and the coffee there sucks - but there is coffee in the room, a starbucks nearby, etc. If you don't like this place, I don't know that you would be happy anywhere, frankly. I think I've ruined our kids for normal places now, actually, that don't have lagoon pools and waterslides and waterfal
