Silver Seas Hotel - אוצ'ו ריוס

Clean, not difficult to find, seaview room, recommended.

The hotel was very comfortable and clean,but there was a few plumbing issues. The hotel staff were outgoing and friendly. The view from the room was spectacular and I enjoyed the cool breeze that came off the sea.

The people at Silver Seas hotel were so caring and helpful- they really made the place worth staying at. It is too bad that the hotel has become so run down because it really could be a beautiful place with some renovations. I liked that the hotel was quiet and relaxing but also just a short walk from the tourist section of town where you can experience true Jamaican culture.

Although the hotel's location is outside the touristy part of Ocho Rios, and it's tucked away off the main road, it's actually a lovely place with rooms that overlook the water. Friendly, accommodating staff, generous Jamaican home-style cooking and a sheltered pool and bar area and private beach made our stay enjoyable. If you're put off by somewhat dated fixtures and decor, stay away, but if you'd rather get to know the real Jamaica, I recommend the Silver Seas heartily!

We had a wonderful stay at Ocho Rios in the Silver Seas Hotel. The staff has been very nice and gave good tips for Ocho Rios. The room was just perfect: large, direct view to the ocean, clean. Clean has to be seen compared to same price hotels. Don't expect to get a upper class hotel standard here, but it's in now way as bad as some ratings say. They have a nice pool and a wonderful beach terrace. Since we were very hungry, we ate breakfast in the hotel and despite our expectations it has been a fabulous meal! Also it is only a 5 minutes walk to the clock tower, while being very quiet at night (on the balcony you can hear two clubs, but not in the room). We would definitely go back!

I love the location and the people there were friendly and nice.

Simple room accommodations, but clean and cared for, packed with character, charm and a laid back relaxed Jamaican approach to very good service. We just had to ask, and we were well taken care of each time. The Jamaican food dishes were superbly prepared ... every time. Thank you for two relaxing visits by the sea ...

Tha bad was not good...all tha matlaces was werry old woke up avry morning whit big back pain...tha rest was ok...

for a hotel off the beaten path this place was amazing...the room was huge that opened out to a patio fully opened to the view of the ocean and friendly breeze...the beds were comfortable...the room was clean and the staff was super friendly. We ate and drank in the restaurant and at the bar by the pool and everything was amazing. This is the right place for the right place if u want to come and relax and enjoy the true off the resort Jamaica. The surrounding town was lively and typical of the area and everyone was very friendly. We were serenaded by party boats all day as well as at night time which as exactly what we needed. We loved it and will definitely return...

An old hotel that is being given a facelift by a very enthusiastic and friendly manageress. Ideal situation at the waters edge.

Over-all for the price its ok, but compared to Canada it still would be considered below par, but all in all the ocean views, the character of the hotel itself as it is quite dated, and the staff are all charming. A two minute walk to downtown Ocho Rios so it is quite convenient to shop the local markets etc. I was very impressed by the cook as he takes pride in what he cooks and is very personable, not to say that the rest of the staff don't deserve notice as all try to be very friendly and accomadating. Extended my stay so that says it all.

The first clue that this hotel was going to be questionable was the fact that the local taxi driver could not find the hotel. Why could he not find it? Cause it is located at the end of a shady alley. Once we found it we were told to never go left or right when we exited the hotel rather go straight out to the main road. The staff were just there like the dated furniture; they were more interested in talking on their phones or to each other than to bother checking us in. Once we got to the room the views were amazing but the furniture looked and felt like they were found in the alley, brought up and Febreezed. The beds were thin and concaved so you got to roll into each other feeling every spring along the way. The pillows were actually random lumpy couch pillows in pillowcases and the "whicker" furniture they boast about on their website was falling apart and stincky! The pictures on their website are also misgiving; they must have been taken ages ago because the hotel does not look anything like them. I can see where this hotel was the "hot" spot 50 years ago but it is just old and falling apart now. Not recommended! Spend the extra couple of bucks and find something better.

This is an older hotel but has a great sea view from the room. GOOD diving opposite hotel and many boats come this spot during day.

The staff was not very friendly. The room needed some repairs, but was comfortable. The view was great. No ice machine or any place at the hotel to get ice. Close to shopping. I would not stay here again.

The hotel is located in a not so good area. In fact after checking in we immediately start looking for other loding. Yes, its a nice ocean view but thats it. It smelled of stale smoke, the balcony has adjoining doors to the other rooms which we were told were always locked but it wasn't. The linen did not look sanitary. Its a old hotel that is poorly maintained. We did not feel safe and therefore checked out and did not stay

Hotel is located on a nice spot and is huge. We thought it was pricey for the comfort of room (lack of enough light bulb in room), outside was not maintained.Staff was helpful and pleasant.

Hotel has a very good view of the north coast, but that's there it ends. Rooms are not kept properly and some have an order. The food was ok.

If you like classic places and want to be in a scene from Casablanca.......The Silver Seas is the place you want to be. It has class and elegance that you don't see anymore. Yes it needs some renovations but the charm this hotel exudes is second to none! The staff are wonderful. Treat yourself to another time. I wouldn't even consider an all inclusive after having stayed for a week at the Silver Seas!!!

Room was very large and very tired. Had a magnificent view over the ocean- as did all the other rooms. Also the rooms are right on the water. Two double beds but only one lamp in main area. Bathtub hand painted white but really showed its age. Hotel quite well located re the centre of Ochie. No in room safe - 2 star but could leave valuables @ front desk. However the clerk listed every single thing, every money bill- we had 3 different currencies, every personal card, every single piece of jewelry! Did not see anyone eating @ hotel, very few people in bar- which was very cheap

My recent in early march was comfortable. Great location to main attractions. A beautiful property with breathtaking view. I must admit the mattress could be updated. Meals were available upon request but choices were limited. The staff were courteous and very prompt to fulfill request. Internet access was only available in lobby. Overall a good stay for the money ...

We had a lovely patio that overlooked the ocean. We would watch the cruise ships coming and going as well as the party boats that passed each day on their way to Mohagany Beach. We had a very clean swimming pool to swim in with a nice sunbathing area as well. The bartender, Barry, was very nice and friendly. He made great Bloody Mary's. The maid service was excellent and efficient. However, they would take the towels and not replace them until later in the day. We did ask the desk clerk if we could get a second chair for our patio and a remote that worked on our TV and we did not get either of those things or an explanation. On the other hand, we did not have a refrigerator in our room, so they lent us a cooler so I would have a cool place to store my insulin. We enjoyed our room so much that if we go to Jamaica again, we will probably only stay at the Siver Seas. Also, the meals that we ate ate the restaurant were excellent. Stores we very close and taxi service is very accessible and at a very reasonable price. We would definately recommend Silver Seas to our friends and family.

If you are looking for a convenient base for your daily excursions into Jamaica, Silver Seas is great. You're near general stores, money changers, restaurants of all sorts and a fleet of taxis ready to take you anywhere you want to go. The restaurant is great for breakfast, but if your want to order any of the fancier dinners from the menu, you should talk to Ivan early in the day so he can get what is needed for the meal. They don't stock the seafood and things listed on the menu, but they will get it in if you are planning on ordering it. On the bright side, that means that it is always fresh. For anyone looking for a resort style experience, go elsewhere. This is a hotel, nothing more.

THIS IS OUR SECOND VISIT. IM FROM THE STATES AND MY HONE IS FROM JAMAICA. WE STAYED THERE BECAUSE THE PRICE IS RIGHT AND THE OCEAN VIEW ROOM IS AWESOME. BRING YOUR OWN TOWELS AND SHEETS IF YOU CAN BECAUSE THEIRS ARE A LITTLE WORN. BAR DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF CHOICES AND WE ATE IN TOWN DOWN THE WAY AT THE SOLIDERS RESTUARANT. GREAT JAMAICAN FOOD AT A GOOD PRICE BUT GOOD. OH YEAH REAL CLOSE TO THE RUINSRESTURANT IS AWESOME. WITH A LOVELY WATER FALL...BEAUTIFUL!

I really appreciated this place. It is inexpensive and its service is just as such. The rooms were clean. The beds were clean but the mattresses were super soft, too soft with very little support. If you are looking for a resort where you will be pampered, this is not the place. This is the place where you get to have a secure room with a place to lay your head and a bathroom. If you are scared of Jamaica, this is not the place for you. You are right in the heart of Ocho Rios, the shops and outdoor market are literally a block away. This seemed to me to be the place where locals and foreigners who have been to Jamaica before come. All the major resorts go to the reefs right off the hotels beach and there is a small private contractor there who will take you out for a fraction of the major resort costs. I really enjoyed the place outside of the beds being too soft. If you have some sense of adventure and are not scared of local culture, or even want to experience local culture, this is the place. If you have more money to burn and are scared of coming in contact with the real people of Jamaica, buying Jerk Chicken from a guy with a grill on the corner who has a thick JA accent, stay at the Ritz or Sandals or somewhere that your sensibilities will not be challenged.

this hotel is right on the beach front with veiws you will never forget all the staff who work there really do they best to make your stay nice nothing is a problem to them we will be going back there this year again look forward to seeing everybody again

Built in 1947 when it must have been spectacular overlooking the seaside. was told that 31 of about 74 rooms were open; and the others are being scheduled for renovation. Our room was big and bright and clean with a huge balcony overlooking the coral rock coast and greenery....we watched a small boat pulling a fish net....the pool was clean....spacious ambience....breakfast was inexpensive a-la-carte and good value...the hotel is in need of freshening up but I plan to return. It has a romantic charm to it of yesteryear and I could imagine a Hemingway sitting here and writing....we had two rooms, both similar, for the five of us.....my adult children in their 20s also liked it,,,,

It is close to the water but there isn't a beach - just a tiny strip of sand next to a cement barrier and then the ocean. Service is non-existent. Prepare to sit at least 30 minutes in the "restaurant" before anyone even realizes you are there. Actual food service takes another hour and the food is not good. We also had to wait 15 mins and finally chase the waitress down to get change. She was planning on keeping a large bill. (She thought it was tip she said - 60%). The rooms are spartan. We have a huge balcony with no furniture to sit on. Everything is dirty and falling apart. There are roaches in the room. The sheets are stained and scratchy and the comforter is filthy. The bathroom is gas station quality. Not clean. They provide one towel and one tiny soap. If you want shampoo, they send you to the store to buy your own. Also party boats go back and forth in front of the room blaring music so there isn't much sleep to be had here. All around a very bad hotel by any standards.

Amazing view once you get there. The best snorkeling and diving is right out the front steps. We watched all the other tours bring their boats to the reefs in front of the hotel. Not a great area, the restaurant was horrible and not very convenient to walk to restaurants. But, if you understand this and you don't mind, this is a gem.

This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. The shower curtains were from a thrift shop and the shower head just sprayed water everywhere. There were roaches running around the room and the floor was never swept or mopped the whole time I was there. It was located kinda in a back alley and difficult to get to from the main road. I must say that the view was great and the a/c worked well.

Great experience and offer for the price. Hotel is older but clean and by the water with great views from room balcony. I will definitely stay there again, and highly recommend it for a budget traveler. It's located few blocks from the main road within walking distance, and it's in a safe neighborhood.

This hotel is outstanding! When i booked i thought it would be a dive considering the cheap price but my expectations were completely blown away! the staff are extreamly friendly, its totally safe with a 24 hour security guard on duty and the room was huge, clean with a huge patio overlooking the most incredible view of the ocean EVER. This hotel is a historic sight it was the first hotel build in ocho rios so there are some railings and such that are breaking but it is not dangerous and it adds to the authenticity of the hotel. This hotel is right in the middle of the downtown area where you can find anything you might need with only a few minute walk like grocery stores, shopping, corner stores, restaurants and internet cafes. This hotel offers free wi fi in the lobby. there is a restaurant along the james ave alley called percys restaurant i believe, you must go there! its very cheap and delicious! YOU MUST STAY AT THIS HOTEL. If you arent into all inclusive but you want to stay at a beautiful hotel then silver seas is your place. When we went in November 2011 we were one of the few guests because of the down season so it was nice to have the whole place to ourselves. The food is good and the prices are a bit cheaper than I would expect to pay at a hotel. A guy works there named Lenny and he offers snorkel rentals and fishing trips etc. The snorkeling at this hotel is about a five minute swim directly out from the shore and its fantastic. Every day you will see tour boats stopping at this very place to bring people snorkeling and you will have it at the comfort of your hotel without paying to get there! Its extreamly safe to snorkel there and is one of the main things to do. Unfortunetly there isnt any sand at this hotel but the hotel is so breath taking anyway that i didnt mind. Enjoy your stay at the Silver Seas hotel as I know you will!

When you need a clean and tidy place to stay in Jamaica that's the place. Oh the staff members were very helpful. Ivan and Percy. That's my place.

nice staff, we reserved for two but we ending 4 in the room and they don't mind, they don't charge extra for the two extra guess, the location was great, easy walking to the town, comfy pool, I ask for wash and dry and the offer to do my 3 load of clothes for $8.00. Really like this hotel. Good for the price we pay.

balcony overlooking the sea was the best part of this hotel. the bedspreads were shabby with holes in them and the a/c only had an on/off switch. i could have used the towels for sandpaper and there was a colony of ants in the sink every morning/night. we couldn't get a remote for the tv and the pillows were either giant foam ones or flat and skimpy.

My husband and I stayed here with our 2 kids for a week and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. It's much larger than I expected. Even the room was huge. It was located right at the centre of Ocho Rios and overlooks the Ocean. The view was great. The negatives were that it's an older hotel and there were no microwave or refrigerator in the room or blow dryer or iron. The TV was old and the picture was not the greatest. But we did not spend alot of time in the room so these things did not bother us. Ocho Rios itself is expensive but this hotel was a great deal. Breakfast was not included but there is an onsite restaurant that was very reasonable.

I liked this place. A little worn, old world style charm, very laid back. The rooms all look right out over the ocean, and there is a reef out there as well. This is a great hotel for independant travelers- no luxury resort accomodations here, but nice friendly staff and a great vibe. It's right off the main street so you can walk around the town of Ocho Rios- eating and drinking cheaply.

The hotel is your average hotel. The rooms are clean, have balconies and all of them face the Caribbean. The amenities were clearly old, but everything was usable. The hotel was pretty empty when we stayed there, so the staff was very responsive to any thing that we asked for. The restaurant affiliated with the hotel was very good, and the chef would give us our wake-up call, letting us know that the breakfast was ready. The restaurant staff made the hotel very charming.

The only major problem I had with this hotel is that there was one iron for the entire hotel, besides that the stay was decent for the price.

The first half of our holiday was in Negril on deciding to go to ocho my friend who we asked to book the hotel could not get the hotel of our choice. Therefore prior to arriving at Silver Sea we were worried. However on arrival we were surprised. Overall you could tell that in its time the hotel was very grand. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, I found them particularly supportive. I you want a hotel without the hustling and crowds which is quite individual in theire approach I would recommend Silver Sea. The room we stayed in was extremely large with an equally large balcony the sea view was amazing. I do however believe that more can be done to enhance this hotel. I would however return to Silver Sea.

We loved The Silver Seas and found it to be a great value for the money. Because of the high ceiling, the room feels very spacious. We found it to be very clean, even the little balcony, which had a lovely view of the trees and the sea. The immediate area of sea by the hotel had the most amazing place for snorkeling, especially for beginners or not as confident swimmers like me as the water was very clear, shallow, and it had a nice sandy bottom. It was exceptionally calm, even when the rest of the sea was rough. The linens are a bit worn, and the mattress not the best, but I found it more comfortable than the other places we stayed. The doorknob to the bathroom was loose and the outer door had a lock with a chain link but I probably wouldn't leave any valuables in the room. A safe is available at the front desk. The balcony doors have just a simple lock on as well. The outer hallway (like a motel) was not lit at night and was very dark. A small stand selling soda, alcohol, chips and cigarettes is within a few steps and available at late night in case you need a snack. The restaurant on sight did not have many options because they were out of groceries but I think if you gave them some notice everything would be fine(i.e. a family of 4 wants breakfast tomorrow or a supper that same evening). There were very few other guests at this time and I don't think they kept much on hand for that reason. The food was average. The staff was all extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel was located within walking distance of the local produce market (don't be scared by the outer appearance, it is safe to go there), a major grocery store, the craft markets, and restaurants. We did not use the pool but it looked nice.There is no sand at the beach but as mentioned, the snorkeling was great. I would recommend this hotel for families and any one on a budget. It is not very high end but an extremely good value for what you get. It is simple, clean and affordable.
