The hotel and amenities are nice. Location is great if you're there for midtown business and want to see a few land marks (Grand Central, Chrysler Building, Empire State). Not sure if I would stay here if I was here for pleasure as this is a more businessy area and it gets pretty quiet at night. The restaurant downstairs is fantastic if you love a good steak. I was really bummed to find out the rooftop bar was closed for maintenance during my stay. It seemed like it would have had a great view of the Chrysler and Empire State Building. My only complaint would be that the bathroom needed some maintenance. The light on the make up mirror didn't work and since the showers have no doors the floor would get wet whenever I showered. It seemed that the bathroom door was also starting to warp since it was so frequently wet from the shower.

Very enjoyable stay. Wish I could have stayed longer!

The minute you walk in, the doormen, front desk people - everyone -- greets you with a smile and a hello. So welcoming and comfortable. Lobby spacious and comfortable; restaurant casual with good food - it does get crowded so I would suggest reservations. Rooms are a nice size with a pillow menu - very comfy. Fluffiest hotel towels I've felt - unless you're in a 5-star hotel. And you can request fluffy white robes, too. We've always had a quiet room with views of neighboring townhomes...you feel like you're at home here. Nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everyone was quite welcoming, friendly and helpful. The staff were all great. The Rare bar was a fun place to have a drink at the end of a long shopping day! Will definitely return :))

No control over temperature of room. Neither heat nor air was available. They neglect to tell you this upon check in and I'm adjusting thermostat all night as a psychological exercise. Ridiculously priced

Very satisfied. A plus was that the restaurant was very good - both in price and quality, quite a surprise for a hotel restaurant! The hotel staff was very helpful at all times.

Highly recommend this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location was centralized for sightseeing in Manhattan. The bathroom was a bit strangely configured, but it was fine.

The Affinia Shelburne is a very nice hotel. When booking on Hotels.com I was expecting a Queen bed, but was pleasantly surprised when we were given a King. The room was a good size. Probably the largest room I have had in NYC for a regular room, which was great as it meant we weren't falling over each other when getting ready in the morning to head out. My two main complaints about the hotel is that there is an extra cost for in-room WiFi (though it is free in the lobby), and that the front desk didn't call up to let me know when my lost luggage arrived from the airport, which would have saved me some stress. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel.

I really enjoy this place and enjoy the walking to every place in midtown Manhattan.

Exceeded our expectation. Convienent for most sites, if you are a walker or use buses. Would stay there again.

We found the Affinia to be a very good hotel for our needs. It is well-located, south of Grand Central. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The beds and bedding were very nice. While small, the bathroom was well-lit and modern. We were not as fond of the restaurant. It was loud and its menu was mostly burgers. Although it was adequate, there was not much to recommend about it. Three doors up Lexington Avenue, there is a terrific (and tiny) coffee place. It is well worth the visit.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay of 5 nights at the end of March. The paint was peeling on the ceiling of the bathroom, and the grout was dirty in the shower, but the rest of the room was in good repair. The room was a good size for NYC and generally quiet. The location was convenient to Grand Central and a reasonable walk to many of the points of interest. The staff was courteous and helpful.We did have a problem getting an "experience" basket that they offer for use during your stay. Turns out they only have a few of the baskets, so when they are out to other rooms, they just don't have any available. Took 2 days to find this out, while they said it would be sent right up each time we requested the basket. The restaurant is good for breakfast but has a limited menu for dinner as it is focused on burgers. There are plenty of good restaurants within a couple of blocks. I agree with many of the other reviews, it is a good place to spend a few days in NYC.

I have stayed here before the rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. My complaint about poor service in my last review stands true for this visit as well. It seems to me that no matter how much more you pay to upgrade your room it doesn't seem to matter. The only difference is 1 king as opposed to two queen beds in a room. I paid double the price for my "Deluxe King Room" and got a room half the size. My room was tucked in on a lower floor with an alley view could not open shades without being exposed to the people in the building across the alley. I was there to work on a over-sea's business deal. It took them 45 min to get my Internet working (separate charge for Internet). I had two cell phones neither had any signal. I could not get or make calls on my phones. When l asked to change rooms the manager had security take me back to my room to see if I had cell service. A waste of everyone's time. When it was confirmed he tells me there is nothing he could do. I had to leave the hotel and try to salvage my deal from the McDonald's w/free Internet. I lost the deal, lost my sleep, and lost what I paid for the room.

It was close enough to everything but on a quiet street. The service was extraordinary. I will stay there again.

My wife and I stayed for three nights in mid March and everything about the hotel was very satisfactory. Room was large, cleanand comfortable, free wifi in large reception area, staff most helpful. We ate one evening in the hotel restaurant Rare and it was good. The Murray Hill Diner, less than 10 minutes walk is good for breakfast. Hotel is within walking distance of Grand Central. Would stay here again.

It was awfull!!! The furniture is in bad shape, hotel is the loudest I've ever stayed at, and the bed is too soft or worn out.

I stayed at this hotel many years ago. They have done a major renovation since. Much nicer now. Very comfortable room. Mini kitchen with refrigerator and microwave. Nice to have that. I like Murray Hill so the location was great for my needs. Wouod stay here again

Felt right at home with superior service. Everyone was super-friendly and solicitous...loved every staff member I came into contact with. The room was a nice size with a pillow menu - when I placed my order (you have to ask for robes too - but they are snowy white and soft!!) in minutes a man had both, with a smile on his face. BAthroom a nice size too - no shower caps though.Kitchenette not a working kitchen but could brew coffee in the am if you desired. Rare - the restaurant - was nice and bustling with a good wine list and food.

We stayed at Affinia Shelburne for a weekend, and I was very happy with the accommodations. The hotel was clean, the beds were extremely comfortable and the service was friendly and polite. The pillow menu was an interesting amenity. I asked for a Sound Pillow, and feel asleep to music from my own iPod playing softly from my pillow. It was only about a four-block walk to the subway, which was convenient, as well, and the doorman was happy to hail a cab for us when we needed. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We stayed there 5 nights and enjoyed every bit of New York. The hotel is conveniently located near shopping and attractions are just couple blocks away. Would recommend and return here as the offered us a good rate.

Very nice hotel great location. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Don't know what the difference between the suite I paid for and regular double room. They squeezed in a chaise lounge next to the bed, does that make the room a "Suite"? I would rather have a sitting area or at the least a comfortable chair to sit in. No walk-in shower as stated, just a regular tub. Not worth the up charge. Service at check-in was terrible. Had to wait 30 min to get my room key with three people behind the desk but only one seemed to be working. Did not expect such a long wait at midnight when I arrived.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel. The first room offered really smelled so i requested a new one. the secont room really not clean. hair left in the shower from previous guest, etc. Also, the second room was really small.

Pro's: Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Check in and out was prompt and friendly. Con's: I was given a room on the second floor. Impossible to sleep past 5:00am due to road noise on Lexington Ave. I was there 4 nights and never slept past 5:00 am. Shower never reached above "warm" in the mornings; more like lukewarm. At night the shower was hot but never in the morning. The hotel is too far down Lexington Ave to really be considered close to anything (especially considering the other hotel options that are available to travelers).

Nice hotel, friendly staff, clean room. Only problem was the desk chair was not built for working.

Really well located in very trendy area. Local bars are great few blocks from brother jimmys bbq well worth a visit. Staff very helpful and friendly. We were there during the blizzard in February can't fault hotel. Really is great location for everything without being in the congested area around Times Square. Easy to get to from JFK via shuttle to grand central station then few minutes walk to hotel. We had a standard room which had plenty of space compared to other hotels. Would recommend this hotel.

This was a great hotel in a good location - close to the Empire State building, Chrysler building, Times Square etc: and good shopping. Grand Central station close enough walk for Metro travel all over the city. Inexpensive airport transfers by bus are available from Pershing Square. Hotel bar/restaurant busy so book a table. Plenty of local places for meals if you don't want to eat at the hotel.There are great views from the roof garden on the 16th floor - would be a lovely place for a drink in warmer months. We found the staff helpful and attentive. We would definitely stay here again.

From start to finish, we found Affinia Shlburne to be excellent It is staffed by friendly, professionals, clean with updated decor, comfy beds, nice recliner, radio with connector for mp3 / iphone, ( typically expensive mini bar items - I always find $7 spring water insulting ), plenty of hot water, and more that made us feel very comfortable. Neighborhood is clean and safe and most mid-town sites are less than 15 - 30 minute walk . The pub in the lobby is fun with decent food. I would happily recommend this nice place.

I had stayed at another Affinia and like the hotels within walking distance of Grand Central. This one had a whimsical decorating style and was comfortable and chic. The onsite restaurant, Rare, had superb hamburgers and breakfast omlettes. Would stay again.

Excellent comfort and quiet neighborhood. I choose this hotel for every stay in NYC.

We stayed for four nights in a twin room for my daughters 21st birthday. Our 9th floor room had everything we needed and was clean and well presented. The beds were very comfortable and we had a view of the Empire State Building which was great. We had room service breakfast from Rare which was just as we ordered and fabulous. We also had dinner there one night - it was very popular and busy but we were served quickly and the food was fab. All the major attractions were within easy walking distance and there are many restaurants and diners in the surrounding area. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this hotel and choose it as our base if we were to go again.

Room was hot when we walked in, luckily the window opened enough to cool the room off because you only had the option of adding more heat. The sheets were really stiff, like they had been starched and ironed, not soft and cozy at all. Located really close to Grand central terminal which was really convenient and the restaurant located in the building was pretty good. Not sure if we would stay there again but it did not ruin our New York experience.
