Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center - Rehoboth Beach

This is an OLD hotel with a dank, smelly, dated interior, and really, really, really BAD mattresses! We had to move the top mattress to the floor in order to sleep. Our room was listed as an "ocean view" which apparently means that if you lean your head out over the parking lot side balcony, you can see the ocean -- sort of. The staff was nice enough but NOT VERY HELPFUL. We were promised an upgrade to a king bed but was refused when we checked in. Stay somewhere else. Just saying.

We stayed at the Atlantic Sands for some r & r by the beach. The location of the hotel is fantastic! We enjoyed the great view of the beach, the sound and spray of the ocean ( yes, it's that close !) and the staff , especially Debbie at the front desk, who was efficient, professional and hospitably welcoming. The huge drawback is the mold that is creeping under every seam of the wallpaper. Had our trip not been so short, and that we were in the room just to sleep, we would have requested a room change. To be fair, the west wing of this hotel has just undergone a major renovation and the sample board behind the desk promises more to come.

The hotel was under construction with debris everywhere. Lights in the hallway didn't work... we got off the elevator to a completely dark 4th floor. Never seen that before. When we checked out the front desk lady asked, "How was your stay with us?". When I told her the truth of our disappointment she simply said, "Have a safe trip home." Don't ask if you don't care.

Would not give a 3 1/2 star. Stain on bed skirt,both wash cloths where not clean looking. Glad I brought my own. Dust on head board. House keeping was at the door at 9:10 am. People at the desk did not greet you when you walked by. Dead roach in main lobby when we checked out. Glad I did not see that when we checked in. Only stayed one night.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here recently with a group. We got a few rooms and at 7:00 pm we were getting ready to go out and talking all in my room....there was 6 of us....we were told to be quiet by the hotel because someone complained we were talking too loud. They told us they would move us to another wing of the hotel.....FOR TALKING....so we can talk as much as we want. This is actually the 2nd time we have had this happened because the people who stay here, as we were told by the front staff, want to go to bed at 8pm. This was off season for my girlfriend's birthday I can't imagine what it would be like in the summer when things are normally in full swing. Don't stay here unless you want to go to bed at 8pm and whisper as you walk through the halls at 7pm. The staff should have suggested the boring people sleeping at dinner time while on vacation be moved and not us. Never staying here again!!!!!!

stay here every spring, it has a great view and is in a wonderful location. They are doing construction/renovating on parts and overall it wasn't that bad. Could definitely use some new beds they were worn out.

Nice, modest hotel in a great location. Get an ocean front room, if you can - it's great to sit on the balcony and watch the ocean and the people on the boardwalk. Whenever I go to Rehoboth, this is where I stay. Only drawback - no heated indoor pool for off-season visits.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Right on the boardwalk, but a block away from the main drag. The view from the room was spectacular. Other than that, it was very average. The water pressure (in the showers and toilets) was weak, and the shower temperature was difficult to maintain. The sliding door leading to the balcony did not operate. The beds were adequate. When we went, the restaurants and pool were closed. I don't think it's worth mid-season prices, but if I struck a bargain I'd consider it.

Great place overall. Our room had an oceanview and a little patio to sit on. It's right off the boardwalk so the location is amazing. Beds and chairs were pretty comfortable. They had a microwave and a mini fridge which definitely came in handy. The bathroom was small but the shower had a curved shower rod so I was happy. I guess if I had to critique anything it would be that the shampoo/conditioner they provide is no good. So just bring your own and you'll be happy:)

The front desk was very helpful. The moved us to a room that had heat, as our original room had issues. Also, they recommended places to go for breakfast each day, they were very good and affordable.

We made a first time visit to the Atlantic Sands in early January, however, we are quite familiar with the area. Overall, the hotel is basic and average. The room was a mini-suite and paired with the ideal location on the beach/boardwalk, the hotel would appeal to families and first-time visitors to Rehoboth who would want to maximize their time on the beach. However, the appointments and finishes in the room and lobby are rather dated and a bit dreary. When we arrived, the room was very cold with the thermostat turned to about 50. Obviously, the hotel did not prepare for our stay, and the room never heated to a "warm" temperature likely due to a inefficient heating system (it was a very chilly evening). I assume the AC in the summer would work better. I would recommend that the hotel invest in a major update, but otherwise, the room/hotel was adequate for a night.

Traveling during Holiday break. Moved to another hotel in area after one night because we were not comfortable with room. The room carpet was wet in front of balcony door. The room was cold on arrival and heater didn't work great - either too warm or too cold in room. Dbl beds instead of queens and not very comfortable. Expected better for $. Plus side was great location and ocean front room.

Enjoyable off-season getaway

Location, location, location. This hotel is steps away from the Atlantic, just across the boardwalk. We had a lovely view of the ocean from our room and heard the surf at night. The room was shabby and the bathroom a bit moldy but the bed linens were clean. If you wish to be in the center of the boardwalk and close to the ocean this is your place. The ladies at the front dest were cheerful and very nice.

the room was excellent. However, there was no place in lobby to buy snack or drink. Nor was there a place for breakfast. Perhaps, because it was off season those things were not available.

I was very disappointed as I heard from family members how nice your hotel was. I don't know if it was because of the hurricane Sandy or possibly because of the off season, but we were very much disappointed. We reserved two rooms one for my husband and myself and the other for my brother and sister-in-law. Their room was nice and cozy while ours was like a refrigerator. We did try and adjust the temperature with no luck. We were so tired by the time we went to bed we didn't care about it being cool but during the night we were freezing. I did not want to callthe desk as I was not about to change rooms at that time of night nor did I want anyone from maintenance coming to our room at that time so we stuck it out. We were all disappointed that there was not a continental breakfast offered. Needless to say I doubt we will return to the Atlantic Sands. I sincerely wish this review would rate your hotel higher but that just isn't possible. I will add, the gentleman at the desk when we checked in was very nice -- that's the best I can do, sorry.

Our first bad impression was upon entering the old elevator and then getting off on the second floor to nasty old carpeting. We were very disappointed in the size of the room - too much crammed into it - not enough room between the beds and the dressers/desk area. We didn't realize that it would be 2 double beds either - we assumed queen - I think that should be made clear when booking the room. The refrigerator froze our sodas and one burst all over the unit. The ice machine was NOT convenient to our room on the 2nd floor - perhaps one could be installed on each floor. Since it was chilly, we would have gone in an indoor pool if one existed - or even just a public hot tub/sauna area aside from the spa area.

Everything was fine; nice room and employees; there was a coffee maker in the room, which I found accomodating.

I love the Atlantic Sands! It's right on the boardwalk, only a block from the main strip in Rehoboth. It's a classic hotel with kitchenette, sitting areas, and balconies. The only problem I had this time was the beds were super soft. I'd recommend new mattresses. I don't think they were intentionally that soft.

We basically booked the most affordable hotel we could find that put us ocean-front on the boardwalk. The location was awesome, and we could see the beach from our bed. If you go for this, though, try to get a room on a higher floor so board-walkers can't look directly into your room. There was a faint musty odor, covered up by a citrus-smelling cleaning product, that made us consider switching rooms. The bed was not comfortable - way too soft - with 2 people, you both get pulled to the center. All things considered, we got exactly what we paid for and expected, based on others' reviews. If you don't mind a less-than-perfect room, in favor of an excellent location/cheaper price, I'd recommend it. If you need perfect cleanliness and service, might want to try somewhere else.

My friend and I stayed one night - beachfront room, walked and shopped all day - did not need to get in my car until we left. Wonderful room with a view!

good but elevators could be spruced up a bit.

We had a good experience staying at the Sands Hotel because of the great rooms and the hotel location. The rooms were very clean, were spacious, had a small kitchenette, and the bed was very soft and comfortable. The only complaint that we had about the room was that the windows didn't open at all and the view out the window was of a house next door and you couldn't see much else. The hotel location was great in that it was directly on the boardwalk next to the beach and in a great location to walk to all the shops, bars, and restaurants in the area.

Dated hotel, but all we did was sleep in our room get out and sight see. Looks like it has the original rugs, wallpaper and decor. Don't get your expectations up Great location though.

We booked this hotel through Hotels.com in April for a weekend the following sept. When we arrived the front desk staff could not find our reservation & simply told us they didn't have it & they were full. Fortunately I had the email confirmation saved on my phone- she took the information - disappeared for 10 minutes & came back & stated she found a room- no apology or explanation. This has never happened to me with reservations & she barely commented on the oversight. Hotel was fine- but beds are very uncomfortable- mattress was way too soft ( or old??) Location is excellent.

The hotel is definitely run down. It has not been updated in at least 20 years. The oceanfront rooms are not worth paying for because they are right over the pool so your balcony has no privacy. I recommend a balcony with an ocean view so you are not staying right over the pool. The room was tiny, dirty and desperately in need of new furniture, paint, linens and carpeting. I only recommend this place if you want to be on the boardwalk and don't care about the condition of the room or hotel.

Nice hotel and great location. Only downside is that there is no self-serve laundry like at other hotels. Best part was being right on the boardwalk and no issues with parking. We did have one power outage which was town wide, but no issues. Room key kept de-activating for some reason.

This place was gross. the first room had hairs and dirt all over the bed sheets, the walls were moldy in the bathroom, and the furniture was stained. They did move us, but for the price, i cannot believe that they do not update that place -- still stained furniture, small, old beds. terrible pillows, hardly a closet to speak of. they do offer 2 chairs and umbrellas, first come first served -- there is a line and the employee didn't start on time -- what a waste of my time. The food outlets are unappealing, parking spaces are tiny, the elevators are super slow. I cannot believe that they are able to fill that hotel at those rates.

The hotel had no bottled water in the building. We had to drive fifteen minutes just to get a bottle of water. The front desk also said they could not help when we asked for a plastic spoon. This was not a hotel by any means beacuase the front desk was unwilling to do anything to help guests besides check them into rooms.

Great location; small room (in old section with ocean view.

It was a great place to stay and the proximity to everything was fantastic. The only drawback that we had, was that the mattresses were old and sunk in the middle. Definitely needs replacing.

The room was clean and quiet and beds were comfy. We had family staying at the other end of the Boardwalk so we did not use many amenities. Been staying at this place for last 10 years and was never disappointed.C&C

our stay was wonderful. we just parked our car and everything we wanted to do or see was just walking distance from our room. great weather good food and hanging out by the pool looking at the ocean...wow

I booked a King Oceanfront room. What I received was a room with a view of some shrubbery. When I went to the front desk they did give me a room with partial ocean view. A real disappointment.
