The place felt like a great guest room in a very nice home. I'd stay there again.

We stayed 2 nights and were made to feel welcome by the staff and enjoyed some great seafood in Portland.

Lovely staff & room Our bathroom was directly across the hall ,thankfully. Suggest that potential guest ask re location.

My room was hilariously small. The price was right and it was conveniently located in downtown so my next morning meetings were easy to get to. The free breakfast is really just coffee, cereal, and pastries/muffins. I would probably stay here again.

Place was very clean, it's a quirky building, narrow maze like hallways, small rooms. My room did not have an attached bathroom, it was in the hallway (but only for my room). Parking lot is tiny and you might have to park next door in their overflow parking at the Chinese restaurant. Everything was pretty much fine until I got back to my room a little after midnight only to then find that the heater in the room did not work. It was chilly that night and I really needed that heater, and there weren't enough blankets to keep me warm. I was tired by then and didn't feel like going to the desk to complain and possibly have to change rooms so I just dealt with it. But that is a pretty big oversight on their part and kind of a deal beaker for me. I'll probably try a different place next time.

Not in the scenic downtown, a bit of a walk to all the wonderful restaurants, and some would find the neighborhood a little sketchy. But the value for money is outstanding. Clean and comfortable, a good breakfast, at an amazingly low price. Convenient to the minor-league ballpark and the train station. Besides, after you hike into town (1+ miles) for a great dinner, you'll need to walk it off to get back... :)

Better than I had expected. Bath was a separated locked room down from the sleeping room. No elevator. But sleeping room very comfortable.

Nice bed and breakfast. We had a queen room with a private hall bathroom, which was across the from our room. The room was nice and cozy with a small TV. The continental breakfast was basic, but good quality. It included bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, apples, coffee & tea. Service at the front desk was good. Overall, very happy with our stay here.

We loved our stay here! It is a wonderful place to stay, great rooms. The service was wonderful and the people very kind.

We stayed at The Inn at St. John for our first anniversary and absolutely loved it. The hotel was cute and comfortable, the rooms were awesome, we loved the private hall baths, and the staff were fantastic. Our shower head actually broke when my husband tried to turn it, and they came right up and fixed it. The manager apologized (we told him it was no problem), and was wonderful about it. The hotel isn't far from anything, either. About a 5 minute drive to the mall and to the Old Port. We will definitely be going back next year!

GREAT STAY.

This historic hotel is fantastic. The staff will go out of their way to help you with suggestions and questions and everything is very well maintained. Jeffery at the Front Desk is amazing. The rooms are quaint and make you feel like you are in an older age, but they are very well maintained and have all of the modern luxuries you might need. I highly recommend this hotel.

The facility and staff were first rate. I would stay there again. Or room had the restroom in the hall which wasn't an issue. My understanding is that most rooms have them inside but we got a great deal and didn't mind. Everybody was friendly and professional and the room was clean and comfortable.

Worth the visit. Dogfish Cafe next door has great food. Pool hall across the street, great.

Excellent, as is the hotel staff and chambermaids. Nice continental breakfast, comfortable surroundings and decor. Great location, with the bus station close by and several local restuarants or just want to attend a Red Sox minor league game, just a block away. However, unless you have a room on the very 1st floor, be prepared for some long steps to the next level and more to the next level. .

Great price, great people, very cute inn! I came for an interview I was having in the area, and it is very cozy. Typical hotel breakfast, the bathroom isn't connect to your room, and the room was small, but you can't beat the price! The decor was lovely. Great stay if you are here for business!

The location of this hotel was very convenient for a visit to the hospital. There are a lot of small restaurants in the area. The room was very clean and charming. Our room was on the second floor so having no elevator wasnt a big deal for us.

We really enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

The concierge was the best ever.Love the location near funky restos...can walk downtown.Parking just off the interstate is a big plus.

What a nice place. So much more character than your expected business trip hotels. Also great to have two nice places to grab food just outside the door.

Great location, friendly and above all, competent staff. Nice set up with coffee, cookies, etc all day, along with a truly nice and very full continental breakfast, with even fresh fruit. This was as good if not better than most hotels/motels advertise as their special full breakfast. We had the suite on the first floor, so although we cannot comment about the upper floors, the room the hotel gave us was truly outstanding and including so many extras. Also, the parking is right there at the hotel, just outside the door.

loved most things about this hotel from the friendly staff to the excellent selection at their continental breakfast bar; not so keen on having to climb 3 flights of stairs for lack of an elevator and having a private but separate bathroom in hallway. Still, great value for price paid!

beguiling individualistic hotel, charming, cozy, and comfortable, so different from the blandness of chains. inn at st john is what all hotels should be like, a real find! more than met our expectations. thanks for the upgrade.

This historic hotel was very cute. Different from the average hotel. The one BIG bummer was the hallways were extremly small and the stairs were steep!! super steep. Made it hard to jug our suitcases up and down the stairs. Breakfast was typical muffins and bagels. But thats okay. I would stay again.

I read reviews online that the Inn was mediocre. I however, thought the place was fantastic. The staff were friendly and we actually got upgraded! I love the decor, old english style manor meets a Victorian architecture. If you have a car then it's easy to maneuver around, if not, there are cabs that are unbelievabley inexpensive (compared to our home in Boston). We will absolutely be going back!!

My wife was more than pleased with the choice of the Inn at St. John. She was initially skeptipcal of my choice when I told her where we were staying, but after we checked in and got to the room, she couldn't stop talking about how perfect the whole Inn was. Everything was clean and the staff was welcoming and attentive. We had to use the overflow parking area, but it was immediately adjacent to the Inn and was no problem. There are plenty of places to grab a quick bite just 5 minutes from your room, but if you're looking for something a little fancier, than a 15-20 minute walk walk up Congress St. will get you what you want. The neighborhood is lived in, but nothing to be alarmed about. Overall, a graet place to stay. I just wish that we had an excuse to stay longer than the one night we did.

The hotel staff was helpful, and rooms were adequate. As long as you don't mind European style housing (our PRIVATE bathroom was down the hall), the accomodations were just fine. Nothing fancy, but for the price it was acceptable. We ended up driving into the downtown area our first time, and then decided to drive the car back and walk in for the night. It was about a 30-40 minute walk, but honestly not too bad. We would stay there again for the price.

A perfect place to ride out Sandy until I returned to NYC. Staff was VERY courteous.
