good service - originally given very small room - upgraded to suite when we complained

The Hotel Holt was excellent. Easy walking to all the city sights, retaurants, bars and shopping. Excellent restaurant and bar in the hotel and friendly and very helpful staff . If returning to Iceland I would definitly stay again at the Holt. Iceland is AMAZING!

Everything was wonderful. Even before our stay, I chatted online with the hotel manager, Snorri. He was fantastic and gave me a lot of wonderful information. The day we arrived it was 7 am and our room would not be ready for an hour. They gave us the fantastic breakfast buffet complimentary. The room was quiet and location was perfect. All front desk staff was knowledgeable and helpful. Certainly the best we encountered in Iceland, and we stayed at 9 different properties around the island. Fantastic.

The hotel is not very appealing from the outside, but beautifully old school inside. Very atmospheric and original art everywhere. Cosy bar complete with fireplace. Room was functional, but more than adequate. Positioned in a residential part of Reykjavik away from the busy main streets, but only five minutes walk away. Great spot. The wifi in my room was weak or sometimes not there at all. I told the people on reception (who were invariably friendly and helpful) and they said they would look into it. A very good stay!

The hotel lobby and restaurant have beautiful wood panelling and an amazing collection of artwork. The desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner was amazi g.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, toothpaste included, not noisy outside (in February at least). Other than the usual rather low funky sounds from the walls / neighbouring rooms there was very much nothing to complain about. Two smaller car parks belonging to the hotel nearby and free parking at the side of the street in front of it.

Very much enjoyed my stay. It was close to Hallgrimskirkja and further northwest you had the cool/trendy bars etc. Quiet street with a nice bakery only 2 min walk away in case you don't get breakfast there, otherwise food in the restaurant is good, if not a little pricy. Only negative was that in my room (203 or so) there was a loud noise from something next doors close to the stairs at around 07-08 in the morning.

This was my first visit to Iceland, and I picked Hotel Holt based on price and location. After an overnight flight, the hotel staff graciously accommodated my early check-in and were helpful in many ways. My room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The lobby was a bit dark, but I suspect that might have been to feature the many wonderful pieces of Icelandic art on the walls. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. Absolutely no complaints there. The buffet breakfast was wonderful. It was exactly the same every morning, but since it was my favorite things, I was satisfied. The associated restaurant, the Gallery, was wonderful. I ate about half my meals there, which is unusual for me to do while traveling. I will review it separately. Regarding the smell of the water - this is typical of Icelandic hot water, which is geothermal in source. It has a very slight sulfurous nose, but I became used to it in just a few days.

Hotel Holt is a little dated and the rooms could do with redecoration, but the location is perfect, the service is impeccable, the breakfast buffet is awesome. I might be biased because I was upgraded from a regular room (which seemed very small) to a junior suite with a balcony and breathtaking panoramic view of Reykjavik. My travelling companion was not upgraded and the regular room seemed cramped.

Comfortable room. Delicious breakfast. Pleasant bar. Near to everything. A most enjoyable stay.

The hotel was really nice and the location was very good. We were a short walk from downtown and The Pond. I did find our room to be a bit small, even by European standards. My wife went out for most meals. We had breakfast at the hotel one day and it was a very good buffet, but since we both have light breakfasts, we went to the bakery a block away the other days.

This was a great place to stay. It is quiet and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's an easy walk to all the things you'd like to see in Reykjavik and it's also around the corner from the bus station. The one bummer was that the wireless signal was not very strong in my room - almost non-existent. So, I had to use my laptop in the bar or the lobby where it worked great. Fortunately both those locations are very comfortable.

Excellent staff, very helpful. Bar had expensive, fancy drinks. Abut over the top. Rest of hotel was excellent. Would stay there again. Largar spa a bit of a walk, but hot pods were excellent!

The Holt is just a couple of minutes from the centre but not too close to the famously noisy nightlife if you want some peace and quiet. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were comfortable and well maintained.

My husband and I stayed one night before our flight back home. There are two things I would recommend bringing with you, ear plugs and an eye shade. I would note that the main issues I had with this hotel are more a product of the city and not necessarily their specific property. In the Summer, you keep some windows open to allow air in, unfortunately it also allows all of the street noise in and this is a VERY late town with the last bars closing at 5:00 am. Unfortunately, there was no fan to create any sort of white noise to drown it out. The other issue is in order to block the evening light, you have to close your shades, thereby blocking air flow so it gets a bit hot.The hotel itself was a bit dated but had some charm to it and the front desk clerk was very helpful. Again, I would just suggest brining an eye shade and ear plugs with you, unless of course you will be out with everyone until 5:00 am.

The hotel was very nice with lots of features to appreciate. The rooms were a bit too small and the general maintenance level of the hotel was slightly outdated. But overall I recommend it.

I would say overall I enjoyed my stay. I did not eat at the restaurant however I thought everything else was nice; breakfast was above average for Europe and I thought the staff was nice. The room was a little small but I didn't order deluxe.

couldn't have asked for a better hotel. staff, location and amenities were exceptional!

We were very pleased with this hotel. It is a couple of blocks away from the main shopping street - very convenient. The room was comfortable and very clean. The personnel was very friendly. Loved this hotel

All of the staff at Hotel Holt were incredibly helpful, recommending and booking excursions and even advising on the need to use conditioner in your hair at the Blue Lagoon to avoid it frazzling. Good location, close to the centre but quiet with excellent bakeries and shops on the way into the centre. I am really looking forward to returning in the near future.

This is the oldest hotel in Reykjavik. Excellent service from hotel staff when it comes to advices on excursions etc.. They also helped with booking trips etc. The hotel has the biggest private art collection (of paintings) in Reykjavik (I was told) and it had a very nice bar with excellent Whiskey selections. My room was clean and nice but not the highest quality. We were two people, had not specified that we wanted two single beds, and got one big bed. When I asked for a room with single beds, the hotel did not have that available. However they offered us two rooms instead (without any additional fees) until they cold move us into a twin bed room the next day. Excellent service, and I will be happy to stay at this hotel next time in Reykjavik.

the bed was super soft and comfortable! but there are still a few things that i wasn't so pleased about. The Wifi signal was too weak that i had to use a cable in the end(the service was good) The wall and door seals not so good that i can hear the noises from the upper floor and the corridor, was a bit disturbing, fortunately in the evening it was all quiet. Location is great, 10 minutes walk to downtown. overall recommended.

Old fashioned high quality Hotel with best location available in Reykjavik and this time for very good price. I can gladly recommend this for everyone

4 min walk to centre of Reykjavic

This hotel is in an amazing location. It's within walking distance to all attractions but on a side street for a more quiet setting. The front desk is very helpful and the morning buffet and free wi-fi made up for any difference in cost between this hotel and a less expensive hotel. The lounge and restaurant were delicious, the rooms were comfortable and very clean. We didn't bring our young children with us but if we did, the hotel would have been perfect for them, too.

I would highly recommend the hotel HOLT. The staff were great, the food and location were excellent and it was very good value for money. 5 out of 5.

Nothing to complain about!!

The hotel has a very good restaurant with a lot of art on the walls, in a very traditional athmosphere, from local Icelandic painters. I recommend all guests to visit this culinaric restaurant.

Excellent place to stay. Rooms themselves pleasant and comfortable, decent-sized though not large. Lovely communal areas to sit and relax in, and fascinating artwork on display there and in the hotel corridors and rooms. Would highly recommend the restaurant if you can afford it. Wireless free if sometimes erratic.

The hotel was a little dated, and the room was a little crowded for 3 people. Bathroom was a little small and not much counter/space to put things, but those were my only complaints. Beautiful art collection displayed everywhere in the hotel. breakfast was good, and dinner was delicious. Apparently one of the best/fancy restaurants in town. We found out that the hotel was built a long time ago, but was limited for senators and people of importance to stay. Service was friendly- they arranged for our airport ride, gave us late checkout. Just be aware that if you come home late at night, someone has to come open the door because they lock the main doors. Location is good- great bakery about 200 feet away. We went there many times to pig out on their pastries. Also not a far walk to hit the main streets of downtown.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Holt for 5 nights, and had booked a twin/double (only available) so I contacted the hotel about getting a double room. No problems there, they were quick to reply and extremely helpful. During our stay the service was impeccable and they helped with confirming bookings etc - excellent service and very nice room and big new bathroom. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again on our next visit in the winter!

This hotel was just what I expected and more. Lovely room, quiet neighborhood, excellent staff, delicious breakfast, and a five minute walk to the main shopping street. The hotel is well cared for and my room was very clean. Beautiful oil paintings by Icelandic artists and oriental rugs make this hotel really special.

We have only good things to say about the Hotel Holt. The hotel is very clean, conveniently located, and very quiet and comfortable. And best of all, they have terrific service! Here are just a few examples of the service: My wife called the desk for an ironing board and iron. It was brought to our room in minutes! There are no ice machines on the floors, so we called the desk about getting some ice in our room and the desk manager had ice at our door in a couple minutes. When we checked out, we intentionally left a small article behind in the room, not wanting it any longer, and the hotel staff promptly alerted us by email that they found the article and were concerned if we wanted it sent on. These and several other examples demonstrate why the Hotel Holt impressed us with their awesome service. We'll happily return here and recommend it based on our experience.

If the Holt hotel had looked at our booking request (from 4 months before) for a double bed, our experience here would have been more positive. They gave us a twin - when we pointed it out, unfortunately they said they had no double bedded rooms available, so the only thing they could do was downgrade us to a queen size bed which they use for single guests. I get tired of hoteliers saying 'you can just push the 2 beds together'. The answer is 'no you can't - there is a big dip in the middle, and why on earth should I just for your convenience?'. The girl on reception did her best by offering us breakfast (we had booked on a room only basis) but I still felt disappointed.

The Hotel is very comfortable and warm. The junior suite we stayed in was roomy. We had buffet breakfast included which was good. The bar prices were expensive. The pictures on the walls were really good and made the hotel different and interesting. The Hotel is 5 mins from town and the reception staff will arrange everything for you. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Iceland

The Hotel Holt is a wonderful little hotel conveniently located near the center of Reykjavik. The room though small was clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful making reservations for excursions, giving directions etc. The buffet breakfast they offer each morning is adequate to start your day.( We had it included in our rate). One bonus was having a 5 star restaurant right on premise. The Gallery was a fine dining experience with outstanding service. I highly recommend the Hotel Holt.

The staff were all very friendly and the location of the hotel was great. Very handy to have a carpark too. Excellent hotel restaurant.

The hotel staff was so friendly and nice. We arrived very early in the morning, ~7:30am. Our room obviously was not ready. The front desk staff offered us a room to shower if we wanted. We rested in its lounge area instead. We actually fell asleep. Since this lounge is a private room, the staff closed the door and put a "Do Not Disturb" sign. We woke up around noon when our room was ready! We often went back to the hotel very late at night after our tour. The front desk staff was more than willing to try to book our next tour for next morning. And when the pick up was late, they automatically called the tour company for us. They made us feel so welcomed and pampered. I will definitely stay again!

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood within easy walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes depending on where downtown). Especially on weekends you don't want to be on the noisy main streets where the bars and restaurants are in Reykjavik. This place has a lot of character -- original paintings, prints and maps in the halls and rooms, and the concierge and reception staff offer friendly, personal service. Within a few blocks are a bank, two bakeries where you can pick up breakfast, a supermarket, a lovely park surrounding a lake, and a major bus stop for city buses (though if you have mobility issues, be forewarned it's on a hill so the walking is not flat). You can arrange to take "Golden Circle" tours at the front desk and get picked up at the hotel. Excellent gourmet restaurant on the premises, and a somewhat less expensive and fun seafood restaurant around the corner. The neighborhood is charming and very safe at night. Also be aware the "fitness room" is one of the hotel rooms with a treadmill, a stationary bike and a TV, period. They give you a voucher to use for free use of the fitness and pool facilities at the Laugardalar. The pools out there are vast, with several hot tubs; didn't look at the fitness room, but had a great time swimming. It's in a totally different part of town, though, had to take buses or a cab to get there, and at night the buses run infrequently, though I did manage.
