Howard Johnson Hotel - Isla Verde - סן חואן

This is our second stay here and we shall be back! Perfect for the beach, nightlife, restaurants and easy access to other parts of the island.

The hotel staff was VERY accommodating but the hotel rooms need a facelift. The beds were creaky and the mattress lumpy and the air conditioning fan sounded like a bucket of bolts all night long. We did mention it at checkout to the desk. Overall, it is a great location and the personnel were awesome but the hotel itself just needs some upgrades.

The rooms were rather small,a room for 3 was a room for 2 with an extra bed leaving no room to move.Rooms were clean,location was adequate next to Burger king ,in front of a Boutique hotel-restaurant La Plague/Beach Club worth visiting.Breakfast on 10th floor was a pleasant surprise with a view of the surroundings.

The rooms needs mayor repairs. The bathtubs needs to be replaced. Linen is clean, but very well used. Mattresses were hollowed. Good toiletries.

At 2.5 stars expectations are rather low. The only advantage is airport proximity. Higher floors may have a view. Breakfast is nonexistent. So it only meets the expectations.

location is good. We called for an extra towel since there was four of us and we only had three towel, it was never brought up to our room. However, i had thrown away our flight info and the man at the desk let me into an office to use a computer. The hotel is kind of old and outdated and worn out, but okay for a one night stay. Had a pretty good pizza place connected to it, so dinner was easy. overall, not too bad for a short stay.

Overall a good experience. The staff was nice and courteous.

the staff was friendly and efficient however the hotel was terribly outdated. the decoration was circa 1970 and the shower leaked all night

Close to airport, short walk to a beach. It was clean and ok for a single night, wouldn't want to stay longer. The elevator did not inspire confidence.

Evething ok

Very professional and courteous staff. The 10th floor breakfast room with spectacular views of the beach, city and the mountain range of El Yunque was a very delightful surprise. The facility could use some improvements, e.g., new room floorings/carpet. I enjoyed my stay @ HJ.

The lobby is remodeled, but the rooms are not. The rooms are run down, the bathroom is small and damaged, old. Faucets are bad. There was mold on the ceiling of one room and the fridges are way too old.

Sure its lower in price than the other Isla Verde hotels. But for a minimally lower price couldn't they give the bathroom upkeep? Doors falling apart, toilet set peeling paint, bathtub drains hardly work. The A/C gives a stinky musty smell to the room and the breakfast if way below minimum standards. Is profit so important that HoJo can't afford minimal upgrade, and a reasonably decent breakfast????

Comfortable. Breakfast pretty descent. Found a small cokroach in the room. Overall was fine.

A bit older, as hotels go. But it is very close to the beach, even offering what can be called an ocean view, technically. Good access to said beach, and to public transportation, which is what we were looking for. The lobby looked very nice, but the room is clean, but had not gotten similarly spruced up. Overall, I'd have no probems to stay there again.

The room was good but there was a smell of huminity on the 2nd floor and the room. Parking was not included, i paid $8/day for it. Breakfast was normal. Service was great. Great location. I will come back to this hotel.

Tanned and torn towels. Terrible bed matress, extremely used with a depression in the center. No pool towels available (they say they were in the middle of washing them). Good quality toiletries available. Friendly staff. Good continental breakfast. Clean pool.

Hotel was clean and had good service. Bed was comfortable and fairly good size room but small bathroom and slightly dated. Continental breakfast was below par but okay. Not a bad stay for the price.

I was happy with the stay i enjoyed the breakfast .

Room was very disappointing. None working room phone, lack of towels, microwave did not work. Remote control did not work.

This was a great less expensive option while attending a conference at a much more expensive hotel a few blocks away. Also nice that it's just 60 seconds from the beach!

Everyone in PR were so friendly. The staff was great !

My husband is a Navy sailor and we had a family emergency and had to fly next day to Puerto Rico to the funeral of his parents. We decided to stay in this hotel because of the location, we stayed four nights. The room was dirty especially the bathroom, the refrigerator and the coffee maker area...the room service was horrible she came around 4-5pm every day, and always forgot to leave us something (coffee, towels, shampoo or soap) If I have to comeback to PR I will never choose this hotel again.

Hotel is located on Isla verde.. the place where everything happen... easily accessible by walk .. to famous food places, casinos.. etc. Only downside is Rooms are small.

I returned to this hotel after visiting in March 2012. I must say the improvements in customer service, cleanliness n attention to detail have improved 95%. I will definitely return when visiting PUERTO RICO ;-)

MY STAY WAS VERY NICE. WENT WITH SPOUSE AND 2 KIDS ( 9 & 1.5 YRS ). WHEN ON VACATION HERE USED HOTEL MAINLY FOR SLEEP AND RELAXATION AFTER A DAY HANGING OUT WITH FAMILY. POOL WAS VER NIVE SMALL BUT JUST RIGHT. ONLY FLAW WAS THAT SHOWER HEAD STOPPED WOTKING LAST DAY OF MY STAY.

Fair price for the stay and location

I have stayed at Howard Johnson hotel a few times over the years during my trips to Puerto Rico but this time I didn't like it too much. First of all, the room they put us in was too small and right across from the elevator. We have a baby and needed a crib and it wouldn't of fit so well so I asked for a bigger room. They gave a bigger room (room 602) but the bathroom was awful. The sink counter was broken and water would seep through the crack and wet the floor. The bathroom ceiling had mold all over it and peeling and stained. I didn't want to look up when taking a shower. The toilet got clogged and I had to ask front desk to take care of that. They were nice about it and did so quickly. The hallway when you got off the elevator had a really bad old trash smell which I also told the front desk about. They freshened it up but the next day it smelled the same way. One thing that we love about this hotel is that its right across the street from the beach and that it has a parking lot with lower rates than most other hotels. Breakfast is typical continental. Cereal, sliced breads, and some fruit and muffins.
