very direct rout to royal jubilee hospital. Less than a block to old spaghetti factory. well equipped kitchen and corner unit very roomy. very close to walk to many attractions, but just past all the traffic. great view and nice extras in the lobby. a selection of fresh coffee and teas, and in the afternoon, a pot of tea and cookies . very good value at a very reasonable price. stayed an extra day.

Front desk staff is very helpful. Bathroom a little tight coffee and tea in lobby nice touch.

If you are an older person and get a room on the 3rd floor it may be a little difficult as there is no elevator. Junior suites are just great. Bathrooms are small but comfortable and clean.

It's a charming, quiet, comfortable hotel with friendly service, reasonable rates, and is in a perfect location for walking to town or walking to the beach.

Great staff, very clean, cozy and restful....our only complaint is the distance to restaurants as we were on foot.

Fantastic. Just like at home. My friend is from the US and he says that this is a most cozy hotel he ever spent in.

I have stayed at Helm's Inn twice and have been very pleased both times. The location is perfect for walking downtown, to the park, to the beach, or just around the beautiful neighborhoods. But they also have parking if you need a car. There is no restaurant on sight but there are plenty within walking distance. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. The housekeeping staff were very helpful and were happy to do as much or little as you needed on your schedule. The apartments were very clean and had what I needed.

We very much enjoyed our 2 nights at Helm`s Inn. The accommodation was spacious, with a full kitchenette and it was extremely comfortable. The location too was very central for sightseeing and walking around the city. We would definitely like to stay there when we are in Victoria again.

Very nice and convenient to walking sights and restaurant. The bed was comfy; although the comforter had a bad odor to it, almost like a chemical smell!

Excellent. The bathroom needs to be more efficiently designed in terms of convenience. More practical appointments i.e. shelves and smaller mirrors. Kitchen stove needs to be upgraded. Kitchen utensils need to be more complete. Staff was quite helpful in sorting things out though.

Our refrigerator was very noisy, so we were moved to another room the second night. We always appreciate our stay at the Helm. We stayed at a couple of other hotels during our four day stay on the Island and I realize what a gem the Helm is compared to other hotels.

Staff attentive, friendly and accommodating. Small intimate feeling. All special requests made when booking the room were honored. Well located. Reasonable walk from Victoria Clipper dock but a bit of a challenge if you have substantial luggage (Taxi fare-$7.50). Close to Inner Harbor, near down town district, auto rental agencies a couple blocks away and across the street from Beacon Hill Park with beautiful trails to the eastern island shore. Tidy, well appointed but bathroom cramped, and furniture arrangement awkward. More operable window needed. Top floor interior room quiet.

I booked my stay at the Helm's Inn based on the reviews that I read, and, not being familiar with Victoria, thought that it would be a convenient location to all activities. I was not disappointed. The room was spacious, very comfortable, and being a woman travelling on my own, I felt safe. The museum, wharf, market, shops and restaurants are close-by--easy walking distance. The bus was also right at your door if you wish to hop on it to head to Swartz Bay ferry terminal for a day trip to Salt Spring Island. The Helm's Inn is in a convenient, quiet location. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The hotel is older, but has had a re-fresh.

Hotel is near a busy road which was noticeable until late evening. Both rooms we looked at were slightly on the dark side and some renovation work was in progress( with appropriate apologies). One of the rooms had a faint,lingering smell which didn't disappear Hotel very convenient for city Centre, Harbour and Beacon Hill Park (which is less manic than the other two locations in August). Some nice "old" buildings in nearby James Bay area. I do think it's a cheek to charge car-parking for guests.

Our room was a little small, but very clean and well appointed. We were surprised by a parking fee when we checked out.

As others have mentioned, this was really a great find! So close to everything, yet quiet. Best of all were the beds - they were so comfortable - even the rollaway! It is very unusual for this family to find sleeping arrangements that are as good as home! The space was ample for our family of 4 (including two 'adult' children)! The kitchenette fully enabled us to cook breakfast each day. The only thing we would have wanted was an extra mirrored area/desk/table for someone to use while others are using the washroom!

Very pleasant, low key, home away from home. Staff is great!

Excellent hotel in walking distance of all major attractions. Great facilities with fairly well equipped kitchen (limited utensils). Rooms have been renovated and are in very good condition - ours was spotlessly clean. We asked for and were given room not facing road. Staff were very firendly and helpful.

This was our second visit to Helms Inn and we definitely would stay there again. We love to walk, and it was easy to get to downtown locations in Victoria. Our recently refurbished room was very comfortable as well as being very attractive. The staff was helpful and accommodating.

The hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance to the Inner Harbor, museums, Parliament and Beacon Hill Park. We would stay in the hotel again.

We found the room spacious and comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well stocked and had a full oven, stove top and large fridge. Although it was on a busy road, it did not seem noisy even on a Saturday night.

This was my 2nd stay at the Helms Inn and I love the location, very quiet yet close to everything. You can walk to shopping, restaurants, the harbour, the legislature, museum, etc and as I was in town to attend a concert, was pleased to be able to walk to the Royal Theatre as well. You are also walking distance to Beacon Hill Park and so you have the best of both worlds. I love the flowers out front of the hotel buildings, the overall hominess and quaintness and especially, the lack of traffic noise at night when you want to be sleeping. Huge room, well-appointed kitchenette and 2 TV's, comfy bed. My favourite place to stay when in Victoria now.

The Helms Inn was the perfect place to stay during our recent visit to Victoria. Even though it was right downtown, we weren't bothered by noise. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only downside is that our room had very little space around the beds, which were in a separate room from the kitchen area, couch/sofa bed.

Great location, one block from Royal BC Museum; 2 blocks from harbor; walking distance to restaurants, shopping and activities. Room was very dated except for kitchen which was modern and new. Room was clean and spacious. The plumbing was a little loud and you knew when others in the hotel were showering etc. The hotel was in the process of updating the beds when we were there but our was not done yet. The bedding and pillows were dated. All that said, this hotel was a great price for the location.

This hotel was recommended by friends, and it lived up to the glowing things that they said.

We loved having not just a microwave but fully functional kitchen, and we were right next to the museum and so close to the inner harbor. Can't ask for more. It's not all brand spanking new, but that mattered less to us that the opportunity to have what was essentially an apartment for so reasonable a cost.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Helms. The hotel across the street was full so we booked at the Helms for a lower rate expecting less. However, we later remarked that we were happier at the Helms than we would have been inn the high rise. The staff went out of their way to accomodate us and the room was just what we needed with a little kitchen, sitting area and separate bedroom. The location is terrific.... we walked to all the sites we wanted to see while in Victoria (except Bouchart Gardens which is outside of Victoria but definitely a must-see if you go).

Only shortfall was the fact that they have no elevator. Therefore , needed to go up three flights of stairs with all our baggage to our room. Great room for a very good price. Once there, everyplace and everything of interest in Victoria is within walking distance. Would definitely return ( with fewer, lighter bags ). The room had a kitchen, was large, good bathroom, and quiet ( except for early mornind buses and street traffic ) . Only criticism was a grungy mat in the bathtub. Would recommend to ant friend or relative who wants to visit Victoria. It is right beside the BC Museum. Go to the James Bay Tea House and Restaurant for breakfast at the corner of Superior and Menzies.

Really enjoyed my stay at Helms Inn. Location was ideal - across from the park, walking distance to downtown, walking/hiking trails everywhere. Room was large, airy, comfortable - temperature easy to control. Staff was very helpful, and the cost was quite low. Washing machine and dryer available on premises were a bonus. I would recommend Helms Inn to anyone wanting to stay in Victoria.

Whenever we go to Victoria, this is where we stay. Within walking distance to great restaurants, the museum, shopping etc. Great hotel staff. Always friendly and helpful. It is an older building, but clean. Recently renovated.

The room assigned to us initially was ground floor, in a busy street, small and the sink was plugged in the bathroom. We notified the front desk about the plugged drain and they immediately came to try to unplug it. After discussing the potential of a night filled with the sound of traffic and our request about other rooms available, the desk clerk offered to upgrade us at no charge to a one bedroom suite in another building. These accommodations were roomy and obviously recently updated. The full fridge and stove/oven were perfect as we were trying to save $$$. In addition we were able to walk to the harbour, to the museum and to the many shops nearby. I would recommend the Helms Inn. I would warn though not to accept just any room as there are obviously different qualities of rooms/suites available.

The Helm is spacious , clean . very quiet and with in walking distance to lots of shops .restaurants and tourist attractions . We love staying there

The location and price are great. Overall clean and adequate. Bot the shower drain was so clogged with hair deep down into the pipes that it wouldn't drain until I pulled all that gunky stuff out bit by bit with my hands. Not pleasant! Also, there is no counter space at all in the kitchen and bathroom. And no DVD player available. The only table is so narrow only one person can sit at a time without overlapping knees. Be sure to ask for a room other than ours -- windows look out on alley at street-level.

Nice place situated across the entrance of Beaconhill Park. Friendly staff. Large, nicely decorated rooms, ours with all you need kitchenet. Close to all downtown attractions.
