Grand Hotel Excelsior - מלטה (הכל)

The hotel is very impressive. Room was very large (by European standards) and well-appointed. Thick bathrobes for use by the pool or after a bath. Good restaurant with very impressive buffets - both for breakfast and dinner. Grounds very nicely landscaped. Staff very pleasant and helpful. I can be very picky and the only annoying thing was an off-key and loud piano player/singer in the bar above the restaurant who intruded into dinner one evening.

We stayed for four nights in this marvellous hotel. Very close to Valletta. We really enjoyed our stay there! Nothing was amiss!!!

Lovely staff in all areas, very comfortable rooms, decor a little dated but good quality. Odd set-up with the mini-bar - having to order on demand what you would like (which is basically room service rather than a mini-bar, but it does remove the temptation to eat all the chips after you've had a beer)

We are frequent visitors to Valetta and this hotel just gets better all the time.Staff go the extra mile with a smile breakfasts are the best and of course the location is the very best. Book and you will not be disappointed

Great hotel with an amazing view.

Excellent service by staff. Excellent breakfast buffet. Room furniture is a bit dated and appears to have had better days, in particular the wardrobe. Armchair not very comfortable. Also it was obvious that room floor was not swept regularly. Overall excellent and would recommend hotel....good value for money.

Nearly everything was terrific about the Excelsior. The employees were all very friendly, breakfast was good, and the location is a few minutes walk from the heart of Valletta. The only negative points would be that the jacuzzi was colder than the swimming pool.

This was a nice hotel overall. It's really close to Valletta, less than a 10 minute walk gets you right in to the heart of the city. The one annoying problem we had was that we wanted to use the indoor jacuzzi but the water was cold. We told them about this multiple times but they never did anything about it. Other than that it was a pleasant stay.

My stay at the Excelsior hotel was lovely and very comfortablewith fantastic sea views, excellent service, very cleaned rooms but with no mini-bar inside the room. One have to order from thereception or room service to eat/drink something. Also the free 50cl bottle of water given as you enter the room is too small to have 2 or more coffees. On the whole it was a fantastic stay.

The quality of the hotel amenities was good but the price for buffet dinner was very expensive considered menu and slow beverage service. The wifi was free and the breakfast rich and complete. The street entrance is 84 steps down or a machine access.

The interior is excellent & provides first class service. However, the exterior lacks character - it is supposed to represent a cruise liner, but the concrete structure looks a bit tired. The drinks & food are pricey but not too expensive. Can't fault staff or service. Although they could have given us a free upgrade. Location is good, albeit you have to walk up a steep hill to get to Valletta or take the short cut opposite the entrance via the fort, across the abandoned area & up some steps to the bus station. I would also check out the Phoenicia (more traditional, classier & better located) & the Osborne (looks really nice from the outside, in Valletta & also cheaper - that's where I would stay next time).

Very good location and facilities. Food good but most service sub-standard for a 5 Star hotel. Management's approach to up front charging (including 50 euros a day for possible extras), mini bar stocking, "survey" at check out so guests can be charged for missing towels, bathroom items, remote control holders etc etc - even laundry bags - is insulting to guests and is silly practice.

The cost of meals was too high. There should be an option to have a continental breakfast. Being forced to use the hotel's own limousines and not use outside taxi services added a cost.

good location - 4min walk to Bus terminus, close to city center; nice view of harbour; good customer service, taxi service seems a bit pricey (set rates should be displayed), and room service charge (5 euros) should be included in the service. Room very spacious, robe & slippers provided, hair dryer worth changing (mine didn't work but housekeeping brought me a new one in 5 minutes so cannot complain); also ironing board requires "upgrade". Wide choice of breakfast.

nice hotel, good rooms, very good pool area, bad food, extremely disappointing service, penny-pinching attitude from all we met. Room not cleaned, meal served to room was rancid fish, very poor response initailly by staff. Would not stay there again, better hotels by far in the area.

Beautifull hotel, we stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute. From the moment we arrived to the taxi trip to the airport when we were leaving we were treated very well. Hotel room and service was excellent, hotel location, right beside the sea, perfect. Hotel pool and sun beds.... I'm wishing I was back there right now. You will not be disapointed if you stay here. Highly recommend this hotel.

The Grand Hotel Excelsior was a perfect location for a base in which to explore the old town of Valetta. The area itself is quiet with most of the night life and restaurants being in neighbouring Silemma and St Juliens. The hotel is within walking distance of The Phoenicia Hotel which is also 5* and where we dined on 2 occasions and enjoyed beautiful meals. We did not enjoy dining in the Excelsior all that much as it combined the Al La Carte menu with a buffet. Therefore having expected to be served our meal having ordered the a la Carte, we did not expect to have to go to the buffet to 'help ourselves' to the desert, which was a very noisy area of the dining room. The hotel was very clean, though the air conditioning was on the noisy side. Towels were changed every day and also the bed linen.The private beach with marina and sun lounging area was very pleasant and we really enjoyed being picked up by speedboat water taxi from our hotel to visit nearby Silemma. The surrounding area of Valetta is extremely beautiful and historic. Overall impressions of the hotel was that service was always on the slow side but put it down to the laid back way of doing things that appeared to be in Malta. Staff were courteous, only criticism would be they appeared to be a little too formal - not much to complain about really!

We really like this hotel - comfortable room, great pool area, good breakfast, pleasant staff and a short walk from the centre of Valletta. So why not a five star review? There were a number of really bad stains on our bedroom carpet - not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel

One of the best holidays ever. Hotel second to none, staff outstanding, atmosphere very adult and relaxing, location excellent for city centre, full of history, hired a car and went round island, wish we was still there. Only wish we have is that next time we have a sea view.

The Excelsior is an excellent hotel in many ways: staff are attentive and friendly, views on the coastal side are magnificent. The evening restaurant is buffet or a la carte with themed nights for food, with a pool bar serving food until 5.00pm. Its position is good in that it is in a quiet location but a drawback is the climb from the hotel to the town - over 120 steps followed by an upward walk. There is free shuttle taxi service to the citadel at 10.00am but taxis have to be paid for later in the day. This is fine for the fit but less so for elderly or disabled people. The other lack is in evening entertainment. There is a piano in one of the bars but it was not used during our stay: a keyboard p[layer on the Saturday evening was the only entertainment. Overall it was a very enjoyable stay and far preferable to anything else we saw in Valetta.

Stay was great, however the was no free internet even though there was a business centre. A five star hotel that does not give you free internet was poor because travelling through Europe and staying at 4 and 3 star hotels which provided free internet. Also there were also too many functions at the hotel and would have liked to stay out near the pool till much later than 7pm.

We enjoyed our stay, and hope to stay there again in the future.

Hotel was very nice, if a small bit old fashioned. Staff were very friendly. We ate in the Tiki restaurant one night, which was nice, but overpriced for what it was. We also had room service dinner another evening, which was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Check out is at 12pm and our flight was not until 9pm, so we were thrilled with the use of the pool and facilities all day, along with the use of a courtesy hotel room to shower and change in. All in all, we were happy with the stay

We enjoyed our stay, don't normally stay in such big hotels as prefers smaller establishments. But we can not fault the service or the amenities. Great set up. Had a lovely Asian Buffet one evening in the restaurant. Food was out of this world: lovely prepared, well presented and staff very attentive. Breakfast buffet also incrediabl: very wide choice and all very fresh. Pool area beautiful with great views over Manuel Island. Pool bar and pool restaurant well run.

It was a very relaxing stay in a beautiful hotel with excellent service and I would definitely recommend it to friends. The food was outstanding. My husband and I hope to return sometime.

This is an excellent hotel we have stayed on numerous occasions and for service, location and sheer 5 star experience it is the one.Staff are attentive nothing is too much trouble, the selection of restaurants and eateries fulfill every requirement. The leisure facilities are excellent and you are so near the centre to experience the wonderful walled city of Valletta.We are always sorry to leave

Great service. Reliable people and really kind. I've been in 5 different hotels this year in US, Italy, Spain and France. This one was by far the best. Very good service at the bar, restaurant, breakfast area, swimming pool, reception, taxi. It's also a perfect place to relax or visit with family and kids. For someone that is looking to enjoy the night life of Malta, it's not the best possible location, but is still probably the best hotel in the area.

We stayed in the hotel with the family . A party of 7 with ages ranging for 5-65. The hotel served all our needs. The children's pool was perfect for our grandchild and the large pool was always quiet and allowed for swimming and" cooling down",All staff were very attentive to our needs. We were impressed with the spaciousness around the pool . We would go back there with out any hesitation

Very very nice hotel, excellent position to visit la Valletta and to visit all the nice sites and towns in Malta. Very nice rooms, a selection of several restaurants, I suggest the tiki restaurant by the pool and the beach. Amazing small private beach, next to the pool, where you can enjoy on of the best view of ancient buildings, while you are resting in the sun, or swimming in the channel, surrounded by luxurious yachts! A wonderful experience. Free Internet service throughout the hotel, all the way to the tiki restaurant! Very nice pool as well, very nice staff too! Not to be missed!

Have been here several times now and have always been very satisfied. The room I was given, however, had seen better days - there were cigarette burns on the carpets, some of the furniture and in the bathroom. The bathroom scales weren't working and the room safe broke with everything in it, preventing me from getting to my money etc. Was also surprised (for a 5*) that they have now introduced a "chit" system to borrow towels for the pool / gym, and that they're only available until 7pm when the leisure are is open until 10pm. Generally the hotel was OK, with a decent breakfast and so on.

Was a very nice hotel, close to centre of Valletta. Well maintained but reception and spa staff could have been a little friendlier. Didn't eat there except in Tiki bar, which offered a good range of choices. Didn't like the hotel setting up for a wedding around the swimming pool. I do think that wedding receptions should be held away from public areas. It made us feel like we were in the way and the staff were quite noisy whilst setting up. Not a relaxing time. Other than that, no complaints.

This hotel came very highly rated but it was very touristy with large groups all the time. The air conditioning hardly worked. I was misguided by someone providing directions and the staff were not overly friendly. Plus it was hard to get in and out of due to endless stairs and a good hike from old town.

Overall, a positive experience, but not the greatest location vis a vis where the action is.

Loved ever second if it.mtff were fantastic. Great location, only 5 minute walk from Valletta. Would highly recommend this hotel. Not the cheapest plce to stay, but worth ever penny.

Very welcoming, cleanliness of the room was first class, plus liked the chocolate by the bed each evening. :) Good amenities, could go for a swim any time of day. The breakfast was awesome. The staff were warm and friendly without being over bearing. Would definitely stay there again. Proximity of hotel to bus terminus was good for getting about the island.

The Excelsior is well located, offers splendid views over the harbour from the public rooms, and the staff are helpful if not over-friendly, which is as it should be. Within a (steep) 5-minute walk from central Valetta, and 2 minutes from the central bus station, so very convenient. Has a private wharf, where water taxis can drop you off. Breakfast is fine, but stay away from the restaurant, where the food is terrible and over-priced. Internet in rooms costs 20€/24 hours, which is properly scandalous, and you must order to have our mini-bar filled -- but this only happens the next morning...Needs little improvement to be move up to true 5 star status.

Very friendly hotel with eager to please staff. Rooms had everything you might forget. We had an inland view but was still very pleasant on the balcony as grounds are all well kept. Sea views from the pool side or from the bar. Indoor pool, spa/beauty service and gym too. Great standard, and close to good transport links to get all over the island. Far enough away from resort-style Sliema, but a lovely 10 min boat trip means it's close if you want to visit the bars, shops and restaurants there. There weren't many families with children staying in the hotel, Sliema seemed more child oriented. Restaurant in hotel was nice, but would recommend the local bars and cafes for a more authentic experience. The hotel entrance was down a fairly short steep incline or several flights of steps. Hotel has a fleet of cars and a trip booking service at your disposal if you should need them, but transport is easy by bus and it's only a five to ten minute walk from the bus station which is well staffed and organised. Look out for the changing of the guard and noon gun in Valetta. Possibly the furthest location from Gozo, but easily manageable for a day trip. Great hotel, great location! We'll be going back.

My wife and I have been going to Malta regularly and stayed in many hotels. Since we stayed at the Excelsior we have never looked back and we now always stay at the Excelsior for Value and luxury. The breakfast is the best we have experienced in 5 star hotels. It sets us for the day and in the evenings we expaerience the food in the lovely Restaurants in Valletta and the deliciuos fish restaurants in Marsaxlokk. Check out the restaurant 'Tartarun' in Marsaxlokk. The fish soup is the best on the island. We rented a small but almost new car for 8 days with Car Rentals online for an incredible Euro110.

The hotel does seem a bit worn down from the outside, and our initial check-in didn't go brilliantly as the man who was helping us wasn't very helpful or friendly (he was actually quite rude) but the hotel was in reality very comfortable, perfectly located to explore Valleta, the pool area very relaxing and service otherwise quite good. Plus, the bus terminal is also just around the corner, so you can explore the rest of Malta without much trouble. Word of caution: the 'private beach' is literally a stretch of rocky sand on the bay - but not a beach in the conventional sense of the word. But gorgeous hotel and the Tiki Bar service was exceptionally good. Would stay there again!

We warned the hotel of a very late arrival. There was no one at the door to help with our bags or to park the car. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our keys even though there was no one ahead of us in line. There was only one desk clerk who had to check us in and answer all the calls to the front desk. The next morning we discovered that there was no hot water in our bathroom sink, the cord to the lamp on the nightstand was frayed down to the wires and didn't work, the toilet didn't flush well, and the carpet was very stained. We moved to another room but the carpet in every room seems to be very dirty.

This is our second stay at this hotel and it even beat our first experience. this is what 5 star service and quality is all about. professional pleasant staff all going the extra mile for their customers . brilliant location and views across the harbour. Book now you won't regret it

Great hotel - large, clean, 2 nice pools, friendly service. Would recommend it.

When I checked in to the hotel during mid-afternoon, I was told my room need to be 'inspected.' I asked to meet with concierge while I waited, but he was "on lunch break." The inspection of my room took over 45 minutes while I stood idly in the lobby. The first night was extremely hot in my room. When I realized that I had no control over the thermostat, I called the front desk. When nobody answered, I had to get dressed again and go back to the lobby myself. The front desk informed me that the central thermostat for my room was set at 30 degrees Celsius! They begrudgingly agreed to lower it to 22 Celsius, but refused to go lower. Because my room was still too hot, I had to sleep with the window open. My room was at ground level and had no bars or screens over the window. Therefore my room was wide open to the street--very unsafe! The next morning I voiced my displeasure to the hotel staff and asked to speak with the General Manager. They told me he was not in, but that he would meet with me when he arrived. Over the course of my three day stay, I never once heard from the General Manager, not in person, not by a voicemail, not by a letter under my door. While all of these complaints may sound trivial, please recall that this is a 5-star hotel and charges as such. Therefore one expects, at a minimum, that discomforts will be promptly addressed. That is not the case at Hotel Excelsior. I would never stay there again.
