Headland Hotel - Newquay

Beautiful, cozy, old hotel in a perfect setting overlooking Fistral Beach. We booked a courtyard room, which was the cheapest possible and probably got what we paid for - a very small room with windows facing walls. English breakfast was good but make sure to order from the menu (also included), the English buffet was bland and nothing to write home about. The newly built spa is beautiful and such a nice treat on a windy "spring" day. Only minus is that children are allowed from 7:30am-7pm which made for a lot of noise and splashing - and not exactly the "relaxing and indulging experience" the hotel is promoting.

Staff and hotel were excellent

Having stayed in Newquay on numerous occassions over the last 40 years, I was very much looking forward to staying at Newquay's premier hotel, the Headland. The hotel itself is of a good standard but the rooms overlooking the quadrangle are quite depressing, having no view whatsoever. They are of course cheaper than rooms with a view and it is my fault for not picking up that we would not have a view when booking, but I was expecting at least a car park view. The grand staircase and lobby areas lack natural daylight and could do with more appropriate lighting to cheer them up. Staff were very pleasant but on both occasions I ordered breakfast, which itself was lovely, I did not actually get what I ordered. This was especially surprising since the hotel was by no means busy.

Very enjoyable, unfortunately my brother was unable to travel as no trains could travel past Taunton due to flooding. He lives in London. We lost the money for the room and their company. the hotel was very nice and the room was lovely and warm as it was pretty awful outside, was not sure if we would make it home due to the weather. Quirkie hotel! Great location in better weather.

Everything absolutely spot on. Perfect. Very high standard but made very welcome and not at all out of place.

We enjoyed our stay very much, lovely room, and friendly staff. We also liked the spa facilities we would very much like to come back when the next phase is complete.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a five day break at the Headland, still remember it from seeing 'The Witches'! Lovely hotel with excellent staff who cannot do enough for the guests. Great to see a hotel that is not a 'carbon copy' of every other and actually provide service to the guests.

Very friendly staff who were always on hand to help. Amazing location and fantastic view. Hotel facilities were great and food first class.

Great hotel - AA 4* deserved. Efficient friendly service, good breakfast. Would recommend to anyone. Fantastic position for beach but a little walk into town

Great hotel in wonderful location with many facilities. Would stay again.

Good hotel and great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Things to be aware off - the hotel allows dogs so this can be a positive or negative. Unfortunately I am allergic but I didn't suffer too much! and there is a dog like smell in the communal areas. Also be aware they do have really hard and small beds(*double!!!). This may not be standard across the hotel so check before you book. This caused me major back problems and although I reported this to the hotel staff they did not get this issue resolved throughout my stay. The final point worth noting is to avoid the front of the hotel as your room will be facing the drive that leads to the main entrance so does infringe on you privacy. Do keep in mind this is not a negative review but more off a FYI so you can make sure you avoid any off the above pitfalls.

Relaxing and pampered . Friendly staff and great facilities. The dining room is top class. We were warned not to go into Newquay after dark as it is full of drunken stag nights and hen parties .

This is an extremely welcoming and comfortable hotel in the traditional style with spacious public areas. The sea views from most bedrooms and public rooms are an added feature. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide choice. Perhaps the most important attraction of the hotel was that all members of staff were most friendly and helpful.

Thought hotel needed updating, reception staff were great, restaurant not so good, pricey evening meal and not made clear that vegetables had to be paid for separerately, this on top of the price of a 3 course meal. My husband is 62 years old and knows when beer is off when the lines have not been cleaned properly, when he pointed this out to the barman, he muttered something about it having been done that morning, both beers were off He was offered another pint from the same pumps. I would Not recommend this hotel to anyone. Service not up to 4 Star standard

Perfect as a base to explore Cornwall. Drove one day to St. Ives and the Penwith Circle including stops at Land's End and other picturesque village. Another day drove to Boscastle and Tintagel Castle. Beautiful scenery both days with ocen views and farming landscapes.Spent a third day relaxing at the gorgeous hotel, hiking on the ocean trail and Fistral Beach. Nice to have a base and not have to unpack every night. Hotel dining was great, especially in The Terrace bar. Breakfast in the dining room was included in the room rate and very good. Ocean views from both dining areas was spectacular. Enjoyed swim in the indoor pool but found it too shallow (about 4 feet deep) to do aquafit exercises. Room and bath were very clean and comfortably large. Highly recommend this hotel for it's ambience, service and location.

This hotel is wonderful. The staff are excellent, the food magnificent and the rooms are very comfortable. Do not miss the steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool. All are new and well maintained. I stayed here for four nights and wish it had been longer. Their breakfast is unbeatable with a great selection of fish, the buffet has everything you would need for an English breakfast and the view is wonderful.

The hotel was very friendly and staff overall helpful. The shift covering breakfast service and the terrace on the second night of our stay were definitely not as friendly and professional as the first and third night. The problem with the bath was sorted very quickly and we would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and stay there again.

One night stay on a business trip. I have stayed at a couple of other places in Newquay whilst the Headland was being refurbished and its great to be back. Excellent room, excellent service. I will try to come for a leisure break one day.

Stunning location, very professional, helpful staff, great breakfast, views of the Atlantic, beautiful interior in a1920's sort of way. Loved it.

very relaxing. just what i needed.

This hotel feels like its perched at the end of the world, in a good way. Its is impressive and grand. Service and welcome was excellent, food was good too, very good and reasonably priced. Room was a little misleading "with View of the Sea" is not the same as "Sea View...." But hey its was OK. The sea is at the back, my room was at the front , and if you squashed your head up to the window you could se some sea. I would stay again if in the area.

We really enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the Headland.. a 'proper' Hotel with everything we could need, from warm comfortable room and delicious food .. many places in the hotel to find privacy and a wood fire to sit by. Would readily book again.

I have stayed several times at the Headland and felt a little let down on this occasion. The room was very nice but the shower did not work - a pretty fundamental flaw. Reported to reception on leaving and they said they would look into it. Rest of service and so on was as expected and as normal, but given the price I would expect a shower to work.

I have stayed here once before and both times on business on my own. Made to feel very welcome by the staff and this makes a big difference to a lone traveller. Lovely location, food good, room fine, wifi free, all good

Spent two nights here in feb 2010. We had two nights without the children and wanted somewhere to relax and be looked after. Well what a perfect place for just such a thing. The staff are professional but so friendly . Every one went out of there way to warmly acknowledge us. The room was on first floor with a beautiful view of the sea. Room was cosy and clean. Hotel ambience was perfect .Breakfast menu catered for all and what a view whilst eating. Evening meal was beautiful and staff again brilliant. Will return next year and cant wait..

Stayed on business in December, did not see much of the view or the surroundings as a result. The staff were really good and welcoming, knew their job and were very helpful and friendly. Food exceptional. Internet is free and works which makes a real change for a business traveller often frustrated by promises unfulfilled. iPod dock in my room - bliss! Only real minor grumble is that the heating goes off quite early so if you are working late it gets a bit cold. Otherwise perfect!
