Hotel Irma - זיהואטנחו

I had a room over the pool and the view of the bay, it was very relaxing, hotel staff was very helpful, I walked to town many times during the day and night and felt safe, I will definitely go back again. I have traveled to a lot of countries and have been overly harassed by the vendors in the streets and beaches, but not here Everyone was really cool. See you next May. Aloha. Chuck

We only stayed for eight days and wished we had stayed longer. It is a good hotel for the money. I loved the view. We would stay there again.

Overall a very nice hotel. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, close to town, close to beaches. The building itself is like a stately Mexican mansion, lots of brick and wood. We had a room with a glorious view of the bay. The infinity pool is very beautiful. The food at the restaurant was good, although slightly more expensive then similar food at other local restaurants. Definitely an excellent hotel, especially considering the cost. A great value. The biggest downside was that the bed was rather hard. Also, they could do a little more with some maintenance, for example I had to have the maintenance guy come by to fix the sliding glass door, but even then, it continued to stick. But generally, I highly recommend the hotel.

Hotel was great if you can negotiate lots of steps. Rooms were adequate and staff pleasant. View was great.

The hotel was great. The rooms were pretty basic, however because we did not spend much time in the hotel room it was all that we needed. Great views, the food was good, and the pools were great. Close to the main beach too.

We had a great time! The location right above the beach with beautiful sunsets is great. The hotel staff is awesome with a definite yes we can attitude. Loved being offered the use of a courtesy room to shower after a day in the sun before our late night departure. The only minor in convenience was that it would be great if people would shower before using the pool as not to have sunscreen floating around. Muchissimas gracias!

We stayed from Feb 27 - March 5, 2013. Overall, a very good experience. Hotel is very picturesque and staff was nice & helpful. There is a large hill to walk up if you're coming from town but not that bad & taxi's are cheap. Quite a few older and retired visitors here. Not much partying around the pool. Experience was very pleasant though & I'd recommend this hotel to my friends.

We are on a car trip around Mexico and spent a day / night at the Hotel Irma. Difficult to find until I had a taxi lead us to the property. Nothing bad to say at all. Breakfast was included and it was anything on the menu. The infinity pool and view of the bay is incredible

This is our 3rd stay at Irma, and would definitely stay there again. One thing I would like to see is a mini fridge and coffee pot in the room, even though they have complimentary coffee between 7:30 and 8 AM, which doesn't do us early risers any good. The staff was very honest and friendly ( my husband was confused and was going to overpay our bill with US currency and the waiter corrected him.) The towels folded into different animal shapes was a nice touch. We love Zihuatenajo!

We were vacationing in Troncones and circumstances required an extra night in zihuatinejo. A quick look on hotels.com and we booked the hotel Irma, with breakfast included. Location was great, with an incredible view of the bay. Our room was a little spartan with a shared balcony, but it was perfect for a quick overnight in zihua.

Great view from Ocean Front Rooms. Staff was phenominal in hotel and the resaurant/bar. Lots of stairs, rooms are very clean. Good choice!!!

Pros: Beautiful location, great vistas, great lounging ares, wonderful pools, ease of getting around walking or via taxi, attentive staff, surprisingly quiet, good price. Cons: Uninspired food, uncomfortable beds, lousy pillows.

Excellent location and ambiance with great views over Zihuatanejo bay. Easy walk to town with lots of restaurant options in town and along the walk. We recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a 'local' experience to avoid the Ixtapa 'anywhere' vacation experience.

The people were absolutely fantastic! Always with a smile, the would accommodate any requests! I didn't expect much because the price was so affordable, but this gem exceeded expectations in every way!

the staff & guests were very friendly - family like - wanted to help in anyway they could. Guests keep coming back to Irma - it is like a home away from home.

Seconds from the beach with two pools overlooking the Pacific. Very close to town. Every room has a balcony overlooking the water as well.

I had a colorful room and view of the bay. The hotel is on a nice street near restaurants and stores. Close to town for an easy walk. Housekeeping gave me an ice chest while I was there so I could keep a beverage and some food on ice. Also every day in my room I had sculptures made with towels and flowers.

The rooms at Hotel Irma are okay, not great, but the view is spectacular, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. They could do better with maintaining things, such as changing burned out light bulbs, keeping things faucets from dripping, etc. The hotel is beautifully situated with a fantastic view of the Bahia Zihuatanejo. The food is okay overall: some of the dishes are very good, while others are awful, such as the swimming-in-grease deep-fried fillet of fish I had, which should have been grilled, plain and simple. The coffee is very bad. But the happy hour cocktails are great, as is the wait staff.

Planned to snorkel but some condition at sea caused 2 species of fish to die and wash up on shore. The beaches were cleaned but they kept floating in. We also forgot our cell phone in our room when we checked out, it was charging while we packed then went to lunch and forgot it. We have emailed Irma but have not heard from them. We also emailed friends that were staying longer than us but have not heard from them either. The pools were delightful, food quite acceptable, happy hours, great staff, tasteful decor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Irma.

Wonderful stay. The service and personnel was excellent. Bar and restaurant were extra good in quality and service. Overall our stay could not have been better.

Hotel was wonderful, great staff, restaurant, location and pool. Only complaint was if you had a loud neighbor in the connecting room, it could be noisy.

Bar and restaurant are not open during off season for dinner.

The hotel staff was fantastic! They gladly watched our luggage after checkout for a few hours so we could go to town. They speak great English. The infinity pool was great and we had about a 1 min walk down to the water & about 10 min walk to the Centro where all the shops, bars, & restaurants are. I would definitely stay here again at the rate I got on hotels.com.

Hotel Irma is a gorgeous Hotel in a well balanced location in Zihuatenajo. This is the hotel that well heeled vacationers from Mexico City stay at. It sits on the slope above the bay and faces out to the water. Stairs down to the beach lead to a pleasant waterfront walk to the main town. Beachside restaurants dot the walk to main town's restaurants, shops, and pier. A 5-10 minute walk in the opposite direction (up around the rocky point, then down to the beach) takes you to Playa La Ropa beach. Playa La Ropa is the broader sand beach further from town, but arguably nicer for swimming and sun bathing. Playa La Ropa is also a more "Americanized" experience with a more family friendly vibe, but less local flair. Hotel Irma is a great place if you want to see both sides of Zihua. And the food at the restaurant was great.

The Internet connection is good only in the lobby, the pools well kept, the A-C works, no elevator going up and down the stairs..to the beach is laborious. Staff spoke decent English, felt safe, NO courtesy coffee period. Prepare to pay $2.50 USD for a small cup in their restaurant.

We enjoyed our stay, it was priced right and comfortable!

The staff, food, service were all incredible. Hotel is close to downtown and you can walk everywhere. Would definitely stay there again.

Some rooms are small but most all have balconies with great views of Zihua Bay and Maderia beach below. Near to inexpensive seafood restaurants down the hill. Employees are very friendly. We've been there 3 times. It's not luxury, but it's more of an "authentic Mexican" experience. Haven't found a better place for anything near what the Irma charges. $25 pesos for taxi into town. That's like $2.00 USD. Probably 50% of guests are return customers. No fridge. Hotel has ice chests and ice costs $20 pesos for big bag of ice.

Just perfect --- all th friendly and smily staffs listening our poor Spanish patiently and also speaking English, ideal location overlooking the beach and also close to downtown, direct access to the beach, clean, comfortable and good designed room which has a lovely balcony --- just everything was so good. We have to come back for a longer stay. My fiancee and I recently returned from Hotel Irma. While the pillows were a tad firm for us picky travellers, we loved the location, view from the patio but especially the staff. They all took such good care of us. But what is above and beyond is when Hugo, the smiling Front Desk Agent actually drove out to the airport after our taxi driver drove off with one of our small bags (unintentionally!). Hugo took time out of his own schedule to bring it to the airport 20 mins away. Go there! Zih is beautiful and so are the people! Don't let a few incidents stop you from having a lovely experience in Mexico!

We checked in on Christmas day not ever been to Mexico and traveling with our 2 year old daughter. I must admit it was an interesting drive through the streets to hotel irma, but once we arrived we were impressed with the front desk hospitality. The bellman was helpful with our many bags and our room was more than we expected. Beautiful view of ocean, very clean and comfortable with patio. We had dinner at restaurant in hotel which was very nice and moderately priced. Easy walk to beach and local conveniences. Overall, I would recommend Hotel Irma to people wanting to be within the community and away from tourists. Not many frills, but for us it was what we wanted. Close to beach, great view, helpful and polite staff, nice pool, good food and a few fun places to find on walks. Really loved the coconut alley about two blocks away that supplied the three of us with free coconuts for a buck. :)

A nice older hotel. Easy walking distance to the beaches La Ropa and Madeira and an easy walk to downtown, with lots of nice restaurants close by. The hotel itself has a nice restaurant which over looks the bay. The staff is excellent and we would not hesitate to stay there again. A great taste of Mexico

Everything was great for the $ we spent. Our only issue/complaint would be the cleanliness of the pools. There was obviously something wrong w/ the pool filtration system (If it worked at all??). The water wasn't clear (cloudy), with lot's of hair & debris inside. I wish I hadn't wore a mask/goggles. We beached it from then on. The Staff was great, prompt and genuine. The bill was accurate. We felt safe & secure. We were 2 adults & 2 Children (aged 3 & 1) and were treated very nice by all staff members. Just wish the had cribs. It was ok, because we knew in advance that Hotel Irma didn't have cribs, so we brought our own play pen for our youngest to sleep in. Overall, I would rate 4/5. We stayed in Hotel Irma for 1 day only after spending a week at one of the luxury resorts nearby, so our experience is likely affected by the comparison. If not for that, I may have rated Hotel Irma higher. The hotel is located close to the top of a steep hill in Playa Madera hotel zone. Our room opened onto a wide second-level terrace along with 4 other units, and faced the Playa Madera beach and Zihuatanejo Bay, as do most or all other rooms. The view was nice but not as good as from the hotels on the neighbouring Playa La Ropa. The beach itself is also not as nice, with more clay than sand, rather cloudy/dirty water and more garbage/flotsam from the town. Stone stairs leading from the hotel to the beach and a promenade that takes you to town are also fairly steep, which may be a concern for some travelers. The hotel is within 10-15 minute walking distance from town centre and the Zihuatanejo pier tourist zone. Our double twin room was cozy but a bit rundown and outdated. The TV was old-school CRT, the in-room safe was broken and could not be repaired immediately, and the front door lock was shaky. The front door was all glass which allowed for a wider view, but gave the place a feel of a 70s motel. It also created some major privacy issues unless you are vigilant with the curtains. Mattresses, towels and pillows were OK but not outstanding: matresses a bit harsh and worn out, pillows somewhat lumpy, and towels not very fluffy. Shower/toilet is semi-open and separated from the rest of the unit but a door that does not reach all the way to the ceiling, which creates interesting smells and sound effects (ahem). Shower water pressure was weak even though the unit was on a low floor. Sound insulation from neighbouring units was adequate. The hotel has an appropriately local-inspired design with wooden beams in common areas, adobe walls, ceramic tiles and warm colours, but also feels a bit cheap and rundown. Along this stretch of coast within easy walking distance of Zi's main town are a number of hotels - I've stayed at 4 of them - none nicer than IRMA. Service great, cleanliness great, English spoken if needed, 2 pools, good restraurant, walk down to the beach, etc etc. Irma is a hotel that caters to families with small kids, yet somehow, if its just adults (as I was) its big enough so that the Kids don't get underfoot. The guests are a mixed bunch (as in most of the hotels) Americans, Canadians and well over half were Mexican families on holidays. I would recommend Hotel Irma to anyone - from first time visitor to Mexico, to Mexican friends of mine. Wonderful, low key hotel with service, I will be back - must get backto the sunset watching.

An older hotel but very well maintained - with a Stunning View of Zihua Bay - excellent staff - good restaurant (delicious breakfast was included) - the only draw back was the rather firm beds - a true deal with the current promotion of 3rd night free. Will stay here again - easy to see why people are loyal to this place

No problems at the Irma. Clean and quiet room, the best view, super pool, friendly staff and a great breakfast. The neighborhood was also great, with many excellent restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Easy access to town and the inexpensive bus system to surrounding beaches.

I could go on for a long time here, but in a nutshell, I felt very safe around the neighborhood and especially safe inside of the hotel. The hotel was clean, has a beautiful view and was a cheap cab ride from anything (not a difficult walk to el centro if you wanted). I can't say enough about the staff at Irma, they were so wonderful, they made us feel right at home our entire stay.

The good: great view, convenient location, nice grounds, tasty pina coladas at the pool, clean room The bad: room reeked of urinal cake to cover a slightly smelly bathroom, bare room (decor-wise), crowded pool
