The Old Imperial Hotel Youghal - יוהאל

A nice hotel with very friendly staff. The food was excellent and I feel this was the best part of our visit. The room we stayed in was called a standard double which was quite small for 2 people. I noticed on the hotel's own website they had luxury double and luxury single (with double bed) I wonder if this was not one of their luxury single rooms. However it did not take from the visit in any way and the personal attention and management of all aspects by the proprietor was what made our visit so enjoyable.

The staff at Old Imperial were very helpful, the rooms were very nice and clean. The only issue with the comfort of the room would be the flat, hard pillows. The food at Old Imperial is definitely the best we had in all of Ireland.

Very nice little hotel, very reasonable. Youghal is a cracking town to visit, with much to see and do in a beautiful part of SE Cork. Breakfast at the hotel is well presented with a good choice. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Room rates were extremely competitive, and you do get a lot more for your money than you would for a similar deal in the UK.

upon arrival we found Mark to be an exceptional host the hotel and its staff made our stay in Youghal one of our better weekends

The old imperial,originally a coach house,has maintained all of that history and charm in the bar and public areas.However the recent upgrade of the bedrooms has lifted it in to the stylish and comfortable league of hotels.All this is complimented by the new owners who are passionate about the quality of the food they provide and the service they and their staff deliver.

POSITIVES:- Friendly, cheerful, Irish staff. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. NEGATIVES:- Room at front was noisy. Being on main street, meant I had to keep blinds closed for privacy. Room very cold, until I asked for heating to be switched on. Bed was comfortable enough, but bedding wasn't cosy at all. No lounge or comfortable bar for hotel guests to relax. (It was a bare boards, drinking bar. The full Irish breakfast was fine - bacon excellent. The cold table however, was very basic, with just a choice of cereals or yoghurts, and juice. Having to pay in local currency at the hotel, meant that it cost more than the sterling price first quoted - because of a poor exchange rate, and bank charges.

On check-in, the entrance and reception area was so dim I was dismayed and thought I had made a big mistake with booking as I had checked out the Hotel online and checked reviews. The upper floors where bedrooms were had been refurbished so was quite nice. I chose to pay a little extra for a bedroom 'suite' (a little stretch of the imagination to call it a suite I'm afraid) but it was in the main, comfortable except our 'double bed' consisted of two singles with a double sheet which refused to stay put, obviously not big enough to tuck in under the matresses and the room was cold. I mentioned this to the receptionist when we were checking out and her reply was ' did the receptionist not tell you on check-in how to turn on the heat' I suppose I should have called reception but we thought heat would come on automatically and I had called reception to ask If there was music or dance on anywhere Saturday night and a young man said he would check and ring me back, he did not ring me back, so we just went our own way and did have a very enjoyable night. Breakfast was nice only your tea was given as soon as you ordered but was cold by the time the breakfast arrived. Overall I did enjoy my stay in Youghal but was not enamoured enough to want to go back and stay in the Imperial.
