Kimpton Rouge Hotel

We really liked the hotel. It was very comfortable, especially the bed. Room was spacious. Our dog was very welcome.

I've been staying at the Rouge since it opened, perhaps 20 years ago...? They continue to maintain it beautifully - it looks as spit and polished as the day it opened. The location, midway between Dupont and Logan Circles, with Vida gym and Wholefoods two blocks away and easy access to the metro at Dupont Circle make it a perfect location for a casual, relaxed vacation stay or a short work trip.

I prepayed through hotels.com but upon check out I received a hotel fee for the three nights. I asked what this "fee" was for and I was told it was for amenities around the hotel, i.e. coffee in the morning. Kimptons are known for their coffee in the morning and wine happy hours. I thought first, this is an absolute lame excuse for a fee. And secondly, why not just be upfront about the charge upon check in.

My room was not what I expected for the price I paid.

Property seems like it's getting a bit worn even under the renovations. Elevators very slow and one not working on my last day, which was a pain. I would go with other Kimpton properties such as the Carlyle if possible.
