Hôtel Mercure Marseille Canebière Vieux-Port

New opening hotel, in the very center of Marseille, very clean and personal very available and polite.

The rooms were new, very clean, and very comfortable, with a great mattress and a large TV to match. Location wasn't bad, as it was 5 min walk from the port, and along a main road. The best part of the whole thing was the service we got from the hotel staff. Valentine in particular was very helpful to us after I had my phone stolen by a snatch thief, as we were walking along the Quai de rive neuve. Valentine was extremely understanding, empathetic, friendly and warm, and he assisted us with making our check-out process smoother. We were grateful for his kindness and warmth after the incident.

The hotel is ideally located, just steps away from the old Port. Staff is excellent and very helpful. Room is well appointed and clear.

This hotel only just opened in July 2019 and is therefore brand new. This means everything is very clean and stylish (the black coloured walls at the room entrance were not particularly to my taste but then that's just an opinion). The service we received at check in was also extremely friendly. Before we booked this hotel we saw a few reviews about the location which mentioned that it was in an unsafe area. This is absolutely not the case. When you turn left out of the hotel entrance you are in a big tree-lined boulevard which leads you straight down to the old harbour in about 5 minutes. So, the location could not be any better. In general, I had hesitations about travelling to Marseille as so much is said about crime but again, our experience could not have been any better. Marseille is a completely under-rated travel destination in my opinion and we absolutely loved it!

This was an interesting hotel choice. Really great decor, staff were very well trained and gave an excellent welcome. The restaurant for dinner was excellent too - good value food albeit the menu is a little light on choice. Cleanliness was a bit mixed - one of towels was unclean and there were were some rough edges but on balance, was fine. The real problem with this hotel is the location - it just doesn’t feel safe. I was kept awake all night by the noise from the street (one loud argument over the other and the sounds of people fighting) while in the afternoon there were literally people screaming and fighting outside in broad daylight. I can’t recall the last time I stayed somewhere and was glad that the restaurant was within the building as I didn’t want to risk going outside. I checked out the next morning and raised the issues above. Really courteous response and it clearly isn’t new news - I was advised that I should’ve phoned reception as they have hired security who bring the police across to deal with issues like these. For me, the whole experience was off putting though and won’t be back.

Modern hotel, very clean and spacious rooms. Walking distance to old port. Security at night which is comforting as the area surrounding is a bit sketchy at night. Very happy and would recommend.

Great hotel, only stayed for one night, but room, staff and location was perfect for us. Great access to the old port and all the restaurants around there. Staff was very friendly and room was in perfect condition. Bathroom was a pleasure to use and AC was perfect, efficient but not drafty..
