The Essex, Vermont's Culinary Resort & Spa

Spent two nights here with my SO to come up and see VT in full fall glory. The hotel was clean and staff was very pleasant; we especially enjoyed the hot tub!

The Essex is a nice place. I have only 2 complaints one, they charge $150 to have a dog with you and dog owners all know that when you travel with a dog, you do not get the best room in the place, so the idea of having a B grade room and paying full price and then on top of it $150.00 for the dog is a bit over the top. I can see $50, but $150.00 is extreme. 2- With Covid, they used precaution by not cleaning the rooms BUT when I asked for new towels they literally leave them ON the carpet outside your door, not even in a bag Talk about gross and germs. That to me was just gross, even without Covid. When I commented to the front desk they agreed it was unsanitary and sent new towels in a bag and then the next day again left them on the floor with no bag. If they are concerned with plastic and the environment then spend the few cents more for biodegradable bags or paper bags. Carpets are disgusting so the idea of using a bath towel off the floor is just, again, GROSS

Pool area lovely! Hotel clean and comfortable! Would highly recommend! We’ll be back.

Loved the room, enjoyed every meal at Tavern, got full use of all pool areas and enjoyed the beautiful gardens

Rooms are nice, very clean. Property is beautiful. Pool is a bit small, got crowded quickly, tennis courts are not kept the way I expected but nice. Food at The Tavern was good but menu was the same for lunch and dinner and pretty limited. Desserts available at the front desk were awesome. Great location.

Nice property, nice grounds. Check-in was fine, the room was as advertised. I turned on the tv and fridge via power strip and then listened to the cool looking fridge gurgle all night. Which was not the end of the world. Had to make a reservation for dinner and due to social distancing reservations were staggered a bit. I sat in a chair 10 feet from the reservation desk for 45 minutes while other walk-ins were accommodated. Still I'm not bothered. But then came a phone call from the front desk after 10pm telling me they couldn't pull my credit card number from the reservation and the only option was for me to walk to the front desk and offer the physical card. I'm sorry but that is just a joke. That sounds like a "YOU" problem and you can try me in the morning, you can call Expedia and get it from them or you can retrain your staff on how to handle check-ins.

We had a family vacation that was wonderful! The restaurant was great, the service at the Resort was wonderful, and the pool and outdoor hot tub was the best! We would definitely return there for another vacation as soon as it’s possible.

Very welcoming front desk and cool culinary environment. You have to go outdoors to get to the indoor pool which was awkward in winter. The service at the casual restaurant was lacking—like 15 minutes to get greeted, but the food was good. We stayed with 2 small children and felt comfortable, although the playground was a good quarter mile down the street (from the photos I thought it belonged to the property, but it doesn’t).
