Ramada by Wyndham Gaslamp Convention Center

There are a lot of very good reviews of this hotel and a fair number of bad ones. They are both correct. Depends on the traveler's perspective. If you consider staying in a 1913 building with small European style rooms and an antique elevator (sliding metal gate for door) quaint, boutique and with a lot of character, you will love the hotel. If you prefer modern US style hotels with all the amenities, you will be disappointed. The staff were all incredibly friendly and nice, but did not have the formal style of a large hotel. Hotel was very clean, but worn down in the past 100 years. Parking is crazy expensive. Location is perfect just a block off the heart of the main street of the Gaslamp Quarter and an easy walk to the Convention Center. Rooms are quite small, but very functional. I would definitely stay there again

I would never stay there again. The place hasn't been touched in decades and I was fearful of putting my stuff down on the gross carpet. I piece of paint chipped off in my hands from the bathroom wall. The comforter on the bed was stained. The shower tiles were stained. It was so gross!

Great location, friendly staff, good restaurant next door. We try to stay here every year for the Halloween festivities. Rooms are small but we don't spend much time inside.

Old historical building. Very noisy; rooms facing inside towards center constant roar of A/C units from all the inside rooms. While rooms ringing the outside of the building noise from the city. They make you sign a release so that you don't ask for a refund based on noise. On the plus side, the price was dirt cheap for downtown San Diego.

Disappointed. $40/night parking. Room conditions were subpar. Overhead lights kept coming on all through the night. Definitely NOT worth the price.
