Fairfield Inn by Marriott Charlotte Gastonia

The first room we were placed in smelled horrific of mold and mildew. The second room we were placed in was an upgrade, but only because of the furniture in the room. The refrigerator only stayed on for 2 hours at a time causing me to lose HUNDREDS of dollars of medication that HAS to be refrigerated. We wore our masks upon entering and exiting the building with the exception of the last night and THAT is because we were EATING ice cream as we were walking in. The front desk clerk told us to put our masks on and I informed her that I will when I'm finished eating my ice cream....the KING SIZE bed had 4 pillows only, the pull out sofa had no sheets or pillows, so when my granddaughter stayed with us, we had to go get sheets. The deadbolt on the door had to be turned a specific way or the door wouldn't close. I called to have someone come and take a look at the refrigerator to see if we could remove the 2 hr timer (we couldn't), but while the maintenance guy was there, the toilet stopped up and almost ran out into the floor....there were only 2 very small trash cans in the room as well, causing larger trash items to be laying all over the room. Sorry, but I'll just stay a Hilton customer. Every Marriott hotel I've ever stayed in was less than mediocre.

Everything was fine.

The bathroom and floors were dirty. Staff was nice and friendly.

It was nice and quiet.

First let me say that I experienced two consummate professionals on the job this trip. Brandi and Cynthia were absolutely fantastic. They were genuine and helpful. Even when they didn't have to be. Being in customer service almost my entire adult life, I am very aware of the customer service that I receive. These two young humans are keepers. Also another plus is that the hotel looked and smelled very clean. That is so important especially right now. However, I do have several concerns. The weekend involved my autistic nephew, my sister and mother who came to visit us one night. We specifically chose this hotel for the pool. We had a room in Arsley at another hotel. Nicer area and hotel. However, their pool was not open. Fairfield Gastonia's pool was.. so we decided to come to Fairfield Gastonia. I had stayed before and had a pleasant visit and I even used the pool and had some fun. To my dismay, the pool was not heated and it snowed one day during my 3 night stay. The pool room wasn't even heated. Toliet did not flush and the water in the tub did not drain well. Lastly, they ran out of towels. Gave us hand towels to dry off with. I kept quiet for my nephew. My husband had accepted a job in the area but hadn’t found an apartment. He needed time to explore the area. A 7 day reservation turned into 14. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful in his search. The hotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. I found the room to be very clean. I did sanitize the room before his first night. We also took mattress and pillow protectors while using our own linen. That may have been a bit extreme but added to my piece (peace) of mind.😃

Very nice stay! Extremely clean room, super comfy bed. Very up to date. Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. Followed covid guidelines. There is breakfast fruit yogurt muffins etc. Small area for laundry to which i used dryer didn't work but the young man at the desk checked it out and when he seen he couldn't fix the issue he had maintenance on it and it was fixed within 5 minutes. The one and only complaint is the indoor pool. I only assumed it was heated since it was indoors. Boy was i wrong, no sooner then I went under i bounced right the hell out! It was FREEZING! The family got a good laugh. Sadly it was not swimmable

We had a nice visit to Gastonia. The Fairfield was located centralized to where we were going. The pool is open but by request by time slot. The breakfast at this time is a brown bag where you can choose fruit, cereal, milk, apple juice, water, and a variety of muffins and danish. If you are a coffee drinker then you will have to make that in your room where they provide it and more at your request. And last but not least they have good water pressure in the shower.

Great stay. Room was clean and comfortable. However, I still have not received my security deposit back even after calling 10 days after checkout. Very suspicious
