Macdonald Berystede Hotel

Stayed here last year and cant believe how downhill the place has gone in a year. There were 4 of us staying in separate rooms and each room was OK but not to the standard of a 4 star hotel. In 1 room even the TV was missing and all 4 were of different size and quality even though all were the same price. On the corridor to one of the rooms there must of been 8 or 9 food trays left outside doors which had not been collected and you could tell they had been there for a while. This didnt exactly give us great confidence considering the current climate and the importance of cleanliness. So disappointing as a massive contrast from my previous stay.

39 minute queue to check in and at 4pm the room still wasn’t ready! No shower gel , barely any loo roll, tissue box empty and no coffee pods for machine ! Breakfast service b good but the food was cold! Have stayed 3 times previously but would never stay again!

Very quiet Relaxing

Good stay! Very nice hotel. Staff seemed to be a little unable to cope with the business. I didn’t expect to pay 25 for a Caesar salad and chips. When I questioned the price I was told it had gone through and nothing they could do. I also had a treatment but was not told where to go. Sat in what I thought was the waiting room and no one came to get me. I ended up having a 16 minute treatment instead of 30 mins. However when I mentioned it the staff (Sunday) in the spa were very nice. Waiter on Friday eve was lovely, it was more the waiting staff and bar on Saturday daytime who were unsure, looked harassed and were not helpful. This hotel is nice though, the executive rooms were nice and food was fantastic. Although the expensive Caesar salad was not!

It’s starting to look a little tired now. The spa and facilities need an overhaul tbh

Children are not allowed in the pool between the hours 12 tll 4 this was told to us once we was at the hotel no mention on the comparison website when booking also

Second time at the hotel, spa is great but no clean towels or robes available. Had to wait for towels but the robes never came. The staff are friendly but service was a little slow. we went for the dinner bed and breakfast package and the dinner was great. Rooms are a little dated and could do with a spruce up.

The male receptionist was rude, the waiter was rude until he overheard me saying he was rude and then changed his attitude, the housekeeping staff were super friendly, always polite, spa facilities were wonderful, hotel is looking dated, having stayed a few times over the last few years this was the first time we left feeling a little disappointed. Perhaps the staff need to remember who they are speaking to and who pay their wages.

Brilliant stay only complaint would be breakfast-had to wait for cooked food plates cold.
