Helpful stay, good food and secure car parking. Very pleasant stay in the current Covid era.

Central location with carpark to rear (payment required but not unreasonable). Clean and quiet. Rooms in rear more modern extension could do with abit of updating but didn’t detract from stay. Beds amazing. Slept like a log.

Old, empty and past it . Given a twin room when double asked for. Restaurant , poor choice if bar snacks in the bar as restaurant closed ! Dreadful

We booked a privilege room. The fridge didn't work. One toilet roll in the room. 2 paper cups for tea for 2 nights. The only difference between this room and a standard room was slippers and a dressing gown in real terms and approx £50 per night. Second stay in two werks in a Mercure hotel and have been disappointed on both occasions.

Staff were friendly, hotel clean and great location, perfect as a base. Although very clean most spaces were a little dated and tired. A bit of a freshen up needed in the communist space I.e corridors, stairwell (heavy rain showed there were some leaks in the feeling/window) in stairwell to 1st floor. Over all we wound stay again.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. The one lady serving breakfast was brilliant! She went the extra mile each day. I felt that she was completely overwhelmed - it seemed to me that two members of staff at least were needed. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, but the decor throughout is tired and in need of updating. We were kept awake for a while because of a problem which set the fire alarm off. It would have been helpful if staff had explained what had happened - either in person or by a general notice at reception.

Very basic hotel. I would describe it as three star. No lifts. Tired rooms. Breakfast was a paper bag with some items. I understand post covid it will be different but this should have been explained. I would never have paid for breakfast had I understood.

On arrival we were told that breakfast would be a grab and go bag. This was not shown at the booking stage, if it had been I would have only paid for a room, saving £20, this was very disappointing.

Hand sanitiser at entrance, social distancing reminders everywhere, staff wore face masks. All guests appeared to be keeping their distance. Breakfast was a "grab bag" which we ate in the garden - probably not good value at £12 but convenient. Pot of cornflakes, milk pots, pot of yoghurt, apple, small croissant, pain au chocolat, bread roll, butter and flora portions, jam and honey. At the main table was a fridge containing cartons of milk and orange juice. Waiters brought hot water in a jug to enable guests to make hot drinks and it set us up for the day.

We stayed here overnight to see the play Shirley Valentine. There was plenty of parking and it is central to shops, the cathedral some excellent restaurants and the theatre. The staff were wonderful, especially the bar manager whose knowledge of ales was excellent.
