Basic and in need of refurbishment

The room was very old and in need of refurbishment, base of the barroom door rotting away and delaminating, someone else’s toenail clipping on the carpet etc.

Not so great, especially for the cost.

The whole place is dirty, every carpet is stained, every wall is chipped and unclean. The heating didn't work in my room, the AC didn't work, neither did 2 lights...the bed was really uncomfortable and the pillows were like rocks. On the plus side, there was a good shower and the people that worked there were friendly and kind. I think location is the main benefit of staying here.

Great condition but can be noisy

Much better than the other Mercure in town. Fantastic location, nice lobby and room was fine with a modern bathroom. The floor is the room was really squeaky and lumpy and some paint was yellowing. We slept ok but beware of nearby clubs and bars if you're a light sleeper.

Bizarrely was put in a room in February on a floor with no heating. Complained and was given a heater - first one didn't work at all and second one gave only a little heat. Only after more complaining was another room provided on the floor that had central heating working. Why on earth was this not offered on arrival? At breakfast there were only a few other guests in the hotel, so it wasn't as if the hotel was short of spare rooms. Breakfast was good. Just seems an odd decision by management on providing a cold room, which spoilt the stay at the hotel.

Stayed for one night

Room was quite spacious for a room with a single bed. Dinner was ok. Breakfast was better. Building was Victorian with staircases but they had lifts. A reception person at the desk seemed not helpful. Mattress on bed not good for a 4 star hotel. Close to city centre and across the street from Central train station.

You can't always get what you want...

Nice building though service was a bit hit and miss! When we arrived late friday night the receptionist was insistent we took room 406. It was up some really steep steps and although i explained i had a leg injury she told me there was someone with a blue badge arriving and they took priority over me. Room 406 was ok, though it had no radiators or heating. The little electric heater they provided didnt give off any heat so we requested another one which didnt either. It was a cold night in the attic room! Also, the space to get into the shower cubicle was tiny! I am a little on the larger side but I almost didnt fit!! That was quite embarrassing! Decent breakfast though and good location!

Good hands free check in and out process. Some cleaning issues in room e.g. stained carpet. Room a bit to warm and constant humming noise from vent outside disdurbed sleep.
