Balboa Inn, On the Beach

Very comfy and clean room. The staff is always so helpful and pleasant.

First time staying in Newport. The best part of this hotel was its location. The bed was also comfortable. Other than that, the hotel needs serious tending. The first room we got was terrible. The phone nor the AC worked. There were dead bugs in the toilet too. They decided to "upgrade" us and the new room was better. However the blind was broken, the faucet drain was clogged and saw a couple roaches in the restroom at night. Be aware that there is no pool just a small spa. Will try another hotel next time.

Loved our stay here, very quaint hotel, great location. Staff were very accommodating, friendly. This was my 2nd time staying in this hotel, would definitely stay here again.

Pictures definitely are different than what you walk into. The rooms are so small. No fridge, microwave, nothing but a bed and TV. Ended up canceling the reservation as soon as we walked into the room. Called front desk and said there is no way we are staying here.

Love this place we come here a few times a year

Great location easy access. The whale watching boats and fishing trips are a minute away. They have bikes available at the hotel. Even with covid there was continental breakfast with coffee and cereals. Great modern bathrooms and good bed linens. Parking is a little pricey but it convenient or you can park on the street with a little walk or pay in the lot from 8-6 pm. Since we went places during the day it cost about $20 between the meters and street parking.

The information and photos on Expedia were totally misleading! The room did not have a safe, did not have a fridge and was not soundproof. We could hear the bar and noise across the street until 1am. The room was much smaller and cramped then expected.

Only thing, that was nice about the hotel, it was a couple steps from taking the ferry to Catalina Island. Our disappointment was the room condition. Upon entering the room and it seemed OK once we retired to the bed. we pulled back the quilt to find blood stains fresh blood stains. we know that the quilts normally does not get washed but in this epidemic we would sure hope that the hotel were going to the extra effort and removing the quilt and cleaning them. we were grossed out, we threw the quilt up on the floor got our own blanket. I don’t know how you say it, we were grossed out that’s all I can say. I would had got up and left but we had a long weekend and we’re ready to retire. so we did sleep in this room very uncomfortable, we were up first thing in the morning and cannot wait to get out.

I loved my stay here. The location is fabulous, the hotel itself is wonderful. The room was clean & comfortable. The room, honestly, was very basic. But, I was happy with paying for the location of the hotel. I didn’t spend a lot of time in the room anyway! So much to do in this beautiful location!
