Probably the worst Mecure hotel I’ve stayed in

No ingredients for cocktails Bar staff not following the weights and measures act. Only soup or crisps available between 10am and 5pm at the hotel if you require gluten free options. Even if you don’t there’s only sandwiches or soup available for what they class as a lunch menu. Breakfast is great as long as you got it the right time if not you could face a 10 minute wait to get all The component parts of your breakfast onto one plate. The Hotel car park is horrendous and an absolute free for all. The NCP linked to the hotel (discount wise) is a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. Room key cards that lose their memory every 12 hours. Mould around the bath. Cupboard doors that don’t close properly. TV didn’t work either. And out of date Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) labels on the appliances in the room. It doesn’t help that I also paid 3 x the going rate for the hotel because they elevated all their prices because of the 3 days of Ed Sheran concerts at the stadium. So bearing in mind that I had over paid (even if this had of been the best Mecure I had stayed in to data) and to then get no real food options, a lack of available drink options overall, horrendous service, no room service options, a phone in your room that doesn’t work, issues with check in, issues with accessing the room during the stay and issues during the check out process was just to much to bare. If you are just after a bed in a very good and central location then this might be ok for you

Review

We had a lovely short break in the Mercure hotel. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a visit to the spa when we were there. Very conveniently positioned for visiting all the sites in Cardiff. We especially enjoyed our visit to National museum of Cardiff the Evolution of Wales and nature history were excellent.

Felt dated. Room smelt. Carpet was tired and dirty. Curtains were full of dust. Outdated bathroom. Restaurant area was very modern. Spa was okay, but receptionists in Spa seemed like they were on a different planet, I had to keep prompting them for stuff - towel, locker key.

Room 1204 awful

Room 1204 was awful light fittings broken, fridge iced up. Tv did not work, no mirror above desk no sockets close enough to mirror. Very tired not fit for purpose and not how it’s afvertised

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay. The bed was huge and really comfy. The hotel is a little tired and there was a broken side light in our room, but it was really comfortable otherwise. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the leisure facilities were really nice.

Extremely disappointing stay and left early

The pictures for the hotel make it look modern and clean aswell as comfortable however our experience was quite the opposite. We checked in to our room on Friday 15th April after booking ourselves a weekend away. On first appearances our room was dirty, uncomfortable and the doors did not lock. There were dead bugs along the windowsills and the wall beside the bed was filthy. The television did not work and overall we just felt extremely disappointed. We spoke to the main receptionist who allocated us to another room on the 14th floor, the locks all worked but again the room was not clean. The safe did not work and two of the lifts were out of order meaning we had a long wait when we left to go out and explore Cardiff. The beds were 2 single beds pushed together which made it difficult and uncomfortable for my partner and I to sleep. Most of the furniture was damaged or chipped and overall just needs refurbishment. The hotel bar was out of use on the Saturday due to a wedding taking place and the swimming pool was often busy due to it being open to the public aswell as hotel guests. For the high amount we paid we expected a higher quality room and stay after staying at sister Mercury hotels which were exceptionally better. My partner and I actually left on the Saturday despite paying for 2 nights as we did not want to stay another might in such an awful hotel. Worst one I have ever stayed at by far.
