We enjoyed the hotel. Central to both the town and southern island bars, and a short 15 dollar cab drive to the airport and about 8 dollars to go anywhere in town.

Booked a partial ocean view room and requested a king bed. We got to our room it was pool view with 2 double beds. We got the room changed but still 2 beds. We stayed here last year and loved having breakfast with a view of the ocean. Our first morning we took the the tunnel to the beach restaurant and found it gutted and closed. Half the beach was closed with the closest bathroom back at the main resort. So instead of breakfast in open air looking at the water and the boats going by we trudged back to the main resort and ate breakfast in a climate controlled room looking at the road with traffic. We were told the construction would take another week, another guest was told 15 days earlier that it would only take a week also. My guess is they would be lucky to have it done in a month. Expedia was able to get a refund for our remaining 6 nights. Booking another hotel during peak season was challenging and cost us quite a bit more than if we would have booked it 7 months ago when we booked our trip.

We have been coming to this resort for at least twice a year for 13 years. I got the feeling my stay wasn’t as welcome as those with a large dive group. You would think there would be a star by our name that would say ‘welcome back’. Instead, we got the speech about the cost of keys and no welcome drink that the people next to us received. The food was buffet style, always just barely warm, and never hot, and frankly only about 1/4 was any good. The rooms have not been updated and the bathroom really needed an overhaul. It was not safe. Paint was peeling from the tub. The water actually shut off in the middle of my shower. The noise level after midnight was too much. They are doing improvements to the beach area. Most of the staff was friendly. That said, I no longer feel like our stay there adds value to our experience. I’m disappointed in the downgrade.

A hotel is just a building. What makes this particular hotel so wonderful, is the staff. Polite, respectful, friendly, & professional. From Raul & Rudy at the desk, Cornelius & Maricella at breakfast, Alberto at dinner, Louisa & Kalita by the pool. And of course the best bartenders on the island, Super Mario, Gustavo, and last but not least Daniel. All are amazing people who we consider our friends and extended family. We missed seeing Berta and her fabulous omelettes. And of course housekeeping who took very good care of our rooms always leaving a unique towel sculpture. Those are the reasons we come back every year. Not the building, but the people.
