Beautiful hotel in historic center

Great hotel in the historic center of Porto, walkable to all the major tourist sites. The room was modern and spacious and the bed and linens were very high quality and comfortable. Parking is available at the Parque Alfandega lot about 800m away for 20€ for 3 days, but you need to pay when you park. The WiFi is fast and reliable. The only deficiency - for me - was that there was no business center with a computer I could use.

The location of this hotel is excellent for visiting Porto and the staff were all very courteous and friendly. However, the hotel is not of 4 star standard. There is no foyer area or any other room to sit and relax downstairs. Our ‘superior’ bedroom, though recently painted, was in no way luxurious- room temperature cool despite adjusting system/ the bathroom had a toilet and wash hand basin as the free -standing bath and overhead shower were placed in the bedroom, blocking a window. Apart from being unsightly, getting in and out of the shower was a risk hazard. The hotel is adjacent to a construction site so relaxing in the room during the day was impossible. The breakfast was adequate but one had to boil a free standing kettle to make a cup of tea! Altogether a very disappointing experience.

To be fair I only rate hotels when I feel they are either amazing or seriously lacking. Unfortunately this is the latter. Pros - Comfy Bed Good location (geographically) Breakfast was fine and the breakfast staff were friendly but avoid it as there are some amazing brunch spots within 10 minutes walk that are better and cheaper. Cleaning staff great Cons - Conveniently, the hotel doesn’t mention on booking that there is construction surrounding the hotel which is: 1) super loud 2) looks awful 3) smells We booked a superior room (DON’T) as it comes with balconies but because of the noise, smell and view you just can’t open the door. I asked to be refunded for the 2nd and 3rd night so we could move to a hotel without it construction right outside the window but they refused and said “if we told each customer, no one would stay”…. I think that says it all really. Please note this is not quick construction and will likely take months if not years as they are gutting a while building - think cranes, skips, digging and the like - not a relaxing, idyllic square as the photos show. This hotel is not worth the price in its current state. Literally There are lots of hotels within 5 minutes walk which are far far better - do some research. Other issues- There is no separate bath or shower - there is a tiny bath with shower over in the room and whilst it looks “cute”, water goes all over the room so had to get new towels every day to soak it up - very environmentally
