USA Hostels San Diego - Downtown

This was a very clean place. With the locked access to the front door as well as my room, I felt very safe here. I booked a dorm-style room. The bed was fairly comfortable but made quite a bit of noise, both with squeaking whenever someone rolled over as well as a crunching sound from the mattress cover. Room had a locker but wasn't large enough for my carry-on size bag. It did, however, have an outlet inside if safety is a concern for you. Be aware there are two flights of stairs to the lobby and another flight up to some of the bedrooms. Breakfast was very basic with bagels and fruit. I didn't take advantage but they do provide a lot of activities for guests. Overall, nice place!

Less than average for the hostels I have stayed at

This was my first time staying at a hostel. It was different than a hotel for sure. However, I would do it again if I needed a budget travel option.

It is a very good place to stay for a very reasonable price.

Certainly doable if you're looking for a hostel. Its location in the heart of downtown is great if that's why you're looking here, but it also means loud noises til very late at night. Six bunks to a room means more than likely snoring is going to be an issue in addition to outside noise. The staff were nice enough, and the bathrooms were surprisingly kempt. Their bath towels were small and very thin, though. I guess you get what you pay for. No problems at check in/out.
