What a beautiful location for a few days away. Peaceful, stunning scenery, a home away from home. You definitely need a car to get about but would recommend having a car to explore the Algarve anyway.

Best stay in Monchique area hands down

Wonderful stay in peaceful Monchique. Loved the location and service with fabulous views on hills above Monchique. The studio was quiet and private from the rest of the rooms and a perfect area to relax and enjoy the local hiking in the hills. Excellent service and friendly multilingual staff. Highly recommend.

Boutique like hotel. Very friendly staff, good bed and great breakfast. Floor heating makes the room a little top warm, but we opende the door to the terrace and it was fine, although not very sustainable. Turning of heating took 24 hours

Once you got there, wonderful experience with beautiful property, great views, welcoming hotel staff and terrific breakfast. Getting there difficult, up steep and winding dirt road, would not attempt access after dark.

Lovely rooms and relaxing area

Lovely stay for our family of four including two teenagers. We had a family room, very spacious and of course the main thing about this location is the views, great view from the balcony. The area is very quiet, you do need a car to get anywhere. Nice pool for a cool down in the summer too. Breakfast is a good buffet with eggs cooked to order, you will not starve! Overall an ideal stay if you are looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing.

A relaxing place to stay

We visited in early March 2016 when there was only one other couple staying. The accommodation was clean and in very good condition. Our room was large, had plenty of lights (so it was possible to read with ease everywhere in the room), plenty of power sockets for charging computers/phones, etc (no need for a card key to turn on lights/power so they stayed on if you left the room), and a strong wifi signal everywhere. The double beds have two single duvets (as is common in Germany). Free coffee, tea, etc were available in the breakfast area and there was free fruit and water in the room. Each room had a separate spacious balcony with good views of the coast in the distance. However it is in a remote location and accessed on a series of winding narrow roads climbing uphill. The hotel sent good instructions on how to find it and they were easy to use in daylight as there are plenty of signs. However, we did get lost later in the evening when going down to Monchique in the dark for a meal as the roads are unlit and the signs are not quite as easy to follow as they are for visitors coming from several directions (and, without a satnav, we might have had difficulty finding our way back to the correct route). Vilafoia is owned by a German Children's charity.
