The Carlton Hotel

Very mixed :/

Pros: - I think for most people the decor would have put off however for me stepping into an old manor house with an original lift/staircase was really cool and gave the place some character - Staff were nice and friendly - Easy to locate and free parking was a bonus! Cons: - Bedrooms had lots of cracks which were new and not attributed to aging - The room had a very flimsy lock and even a gentle wind would move the door which seems a little unsecure and easy to get into - The biggest fault by far was that in our room the drains were backed up so you could hear the other rooms around toilets and unfortunately at times smell it as well!!!!!!!!!! Not acceptable Overall I did enjoy it but wouldn't be somewhere I revisited unless it was improved :)

Seen better days

The Carlton needs a lot of money spending on it which must be difficult given COVID leaving the industry devastated. Staff were excellent. It was all very Turkey & Tinsel coach parties and as a result not sure that they were full staffed to cope. Great Yarmouth out of season is not so great!

When entering at the Carlton hotel the Decor was nice and modern at the reception desk there was a notice about the current renovation taking place, and you could see that it had needed a lot of work doing the stairs were slopping the floor was creaking when in the room the floor around the bed to the window creaked as well in the bathroom, there was no iron or hairdryer in the room, on 25th October 2021 at 10:30pm a fire drill took place with no warning, elderly guess were outside for 30mins in the cold while someone went round with a clipboard to check everyone was accounted for then at 12:40am the fire alarms went off again but was quickly turned off and again at 3am, I cut short my stay by one night

Unsuitable for occupancy

I arrived at the hotel at 18:00 hrs on the 14 of September, checked in & was given room 3 … When I entered the room, my partner & myself, thought it was odd when the bedside fan & window was open… Turned off fan, closed windows & tried to use television, didn’t work… Went to reception, for assistance… On returning to room it stank, of vomit & excrement.. my partner said ‘we can’t stay here’ I returned to reception & was told by Mr Christopher Meadows (GM) that he may have a twin room available… By the time I had returned from the room with my partner, Mr Christopher Meadows proclaimed no room was available, he had no intention of attending room 3, but on request gave myself a note saying ‘room cancelled as unsuitable for occupancy’ I never received an apology from Mr Meadows, in fact, I don’t think he left his seat… he was more interested in impressing the female desk staff with his mediocre, arrogant management skills … I left the hotel & drove back to Stevenage, in the morning I returned to Great Yarmouth for the horse racing, which unfortunately missed… But I attended the family gathering I booked the hotel for & have returned for the 3rd days racing… Thankfully only booked one night at the hotel, probably will never receive a refund, compensation nor an apology from anyone… But happy to say ‘I will never use hotels.com again’ Thank you for spoiling my week & for the worst hour of my life, in that hotel…

Just about OK but a bit 'tired'

When I arrived at the hotel looked impressive but a large coach party had just turned up so I went for a walk. When I came back the check-in was clear but it was not good as I was not told where my room was what time breakfast was etc etc. The room was ok but quite tired and a long way from reception a bit small and the TV did not work. Having seen others complaining at reception I managed to sort the TV out myself by rearranging the room and rear wiring things. The room was basic recently clean but a bit yellow faded and tired. Breakfast and next morning it was a disaster as the nuclear had too many people not enough room and not enough staff. This was the case for two out of three of the days of my stay. I even considered not taking the breakfast I had paid for it was that chaotic.

It was lovely they are decorating but it can only be better when finished staff so friendly nothing was to much trouble

The hotel has seen better days and Great Yarmouth seafront leaves a lot to be desired

Felt treated like a 2nd class guests. for Breakfast we were asked of our room number and then taken to the end of the room where all the furniture were torn and dated where as all the furniture in the main room were new.
