Our stay at the Gateway Hotel Newport Gwent was very nice. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful .our double room was spacious with an en.suite bathroom . Although, on a very busy rd and we had the room at the top front which overlooked the rd, there was quite a lot of noisy traffic . Overall though we were very satisfied as it was only £55.00p plus our breakfast £.5.50p each which was extreamly good value with a lot of choice.

The property is currently undergoing some major renovation works and as such isn't the finished product. It was still surprisingly good despite that. I'm sure if it had been completed I would have given higher scores.

Check in time was 3pm we arrived after 3 and checked into our room only to find that the room had not been made up and dirty coffee cups in the room. Reception then checked another room also not made up then found a room that was made up for us. Receptionist very apologetic. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean and in good condition. Bedroom furniture was worn and in need of replacing . Breakfast was hot and service was good but the bacon and sausage not of good quality , bacon was very thin and resembled Italian/Spanish ham .

The area surround the property gives an unsafe feeling. The toilet lid was broken and the room was cold - being one of the first cold nights for this winter.

Confortable bed and good shower but I was upgraded!

Family run hotel with love and care, would definitely stay again if I passed that way again.

My room was very clean. Half the lights & bedside lighting did not work on both sides of the bed. When I arrived at my room the room was cold with no heating. The Shower was clean hoewver the shower head hose was leaking badly. My room was next to a boiler which was very noisy. I went for breakfast. The breakfast area had no extraction from the kitchen. It was like walking into a room that just smelled of cooking fat in the air. My business clothes stank of cooking fat after having a 10 minute quick breakfast. Awful experience. You do get what you pay for poor poor poor. The effort was there but just not right. I wouldnt recommend.

I stayed here for the Newport vs West Ham game. It was a 5 min walk from the ground. The room was fine, nice comfortable bed, modern bathroom and tea/coffee facilities. The only downside to the room was the dirty walls. The breakfast was ok. Plenty of choice, the only downfall being the turkey bacon. All in all the hotel is perfect for short stay for the football. If I’m ever in Newport again I would definitely consider staying here again.
