Location great, the rest not so much.

Shady Villa was alright. It’s a great location within walking distance to Salado hotspots - but that’s pretty much all you’re paying for- the location. The bed was decently comfortable and linens were ok. Brochure about the hotel in the room was stained. Bathroom was updated, the rest not so much. Had to search for parking spots navigating tight spaces and being in a middle building there were no parking spots nearby. We had to park down and around the corner from where we stayed. Wall by the bathroom looked like someone splashed soda on it and was never cleaned. Hotel receptionist was not familiar with anything going on. May be beneficial to be up to date on local events.. especially right across the road. Likely would choose different accommodations next time.

Typically stay in hotel chains. Enjoyed our brief stay at Shady Villa. Comfortable, clean and great aesthetics. Love the work and remodel bringing back the vintage look. We will be back for a friends retreat.

Great hotel for the price. Located right in front of various bars, restaurants. The view of the river is amazing. Highly recommended.

A quick start to break up a long drive

The Shady Villa and the town of Salado were lovely. The location was perfect, we ate at the restaurant and the food was wonderful. The renovation was beautifully done, our room was spacious and very clean. We will go back again

Avoid

I'll first mention the last time my wife and I stayed here was 39 years ago on our first anniversary. We'd heard the Stagecoach Inn had shutdown for a period, and that new owners were resurrecting it. I can't yet determine to what demographic they're trying to appeal--I'm guessing a younger crowd that has no sense of comfort nor value. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the "couch" was even worse. It would have been more comfortable sitting on the floor with my back against the wall. The room itself was clean, but that's about all I can say. The owners appear to be putting their money into "cute", rather than quality/comfort. I'm glad we only planned to stay one night, as I couldn't have taken another. The "fancy" sink sprayed water all over your stomach when turning on the valve. I knew the room didn't have a refrigerator nor microwave when I booked, but no ice bucket nor ice on the property? Who finds that acceptable? We had to drive to the grocery store to buy a bag of ice. Finally, the restaurant is also trying to be "fancy"--overpriced, unappetizing, tiny portions. If you do decide to stay here, do yourself a favor and drive to the Sonic to eat. We had good memories of our precious stay, but with this level of quality, I don't expect them to stay in business for long.
